Assignment on Automated Testing_2
Executive Summary:To accomplish exiting problems of manual testing which results in faults and are time consuming, it is essential to use some automated testing by which these drawbacks can be removed. Furthermore, when multiple PCBs are required manual working will not work as it needs more work and there are high chances of problem. For this automated test jig can be used. This provides fast testing and is appropriate. If any kind of errors is present in PCB then they canbe detected at the time of development phase which saves lots of time and modifications can be made accordingly. It will be analyzed that time of testing will be reduced, efficiency will be enhanced and there will be significant enhancement in quality of PCBs. Introduction: Automated test equipment (ATE) is a device which can be used to test device. This testdevice is called unit under test or device under test (Henshall, Bath and Handwerker, 2011). Byopting for automation, measurements can be performed quickly and test results can be evaluated.ATE is a computer controlled digital system which s used to identify faults in PCBs.Problem Statement: When manual inspection is carried out i.e. by usage of hands, it leads to number of mistakes and certain damages have occurred due to this in production line. Background Information: Manual testing requires lots of time, to eliminate this and remove errors from electronic devices it became mandatory to go for something by whichthese errors can be completely removed. ATE enables testing of different equipments andPCBs. Furthermore, it also assists in reduction of time. Product Design Specification: To address the problem statement, it is necessary to test assembled electronic system using ATE. By this faults can be identified before they are brought within market. Furthermore, ATE reduces the cost of manufacturing and improvises results. After fabrication of semiconductor devices, they must be tested so thatthere is no scope of even a minute error. Design specification of ATE: computer which is a master controller which is able to coordinate one or more sources and capture various instruments. DUT (Device under test) is connected physically with ATE using Prober or Handler which is a robotic machine. Fixture or ITA (Interface test adapter) is also used which connects DUT to resources of ATE. ATE will identify whether DUT is working effectively or not. Secondly, if DUT is not working as per required standard then it finds out reason why it is so.Design PlanIt describes how ATE can be used to have desired PCBs means which are not defected. General scheme by which input can be tested is shown below:
