1. Describe in brief the relation between taste and different food systems according to Carolan. As per Carolan, the tastes and various types of food systems have a unique and essential relation (Carolan and et. al., 2019). This is because every food system contains cuisines and food items of similar tastes and thus when people think of a particular food system, they are reminded of a particular taste and not all of them. 2. What is "Ark of taste" and is it relevant to your experience and background? Ark of Taste is an international catalogue that is made to preserve or save the rare foods, initiated by global Slow Food movement. It is developed with the aim of preservation of at-risk foods which are manufactured in sustainable manner and are found to be unique in taste. They are inclusive in a different eco-region. As against usual animal as well as plant conservation, this is a measure which is aimed at maintenance of edibles in its purview by massively motivating their cultivation for the purpose of consuming them. With this, Slow Food movement strives to ensure promotion of growth as well as consumption of sustainable food, thereby preserving the biodiversity prevailing within the confines of human food chain (Corfield, 2018). This was launched during 1966 and since then, it chooses, catalogues as well as encourages endangered food and practices with a view to keep such food items alive. Further, during the year 1999, Slow Food developed presida which is an arm of AOT developed with a view to provide assistance and guide to producers of items as well as artisans in purchasing equipments and developing essential infrastructures while marketing their offerings. To ensure qualification within Ark of Taste, food items must be:- Exceptional in case of tastes At risk, biologically or as culinary tradition Sustainably created Culturally or traditionally related to a particular area, locality, ethnicity, or traditional production practice, and Manufactured in limited quantum Hereby, product category includes (but may be more also) spices, legumes, cereals, honey, fruits, beverages, fish, nuts, livestock, shellfish, cheese, wild game, vinegar, vegetables, syrups etc. At present, there are over 800 items pertaining to more than 50 nations upon the list of Ark of Taste. 1
Ark of Taste is relevant to my experience or background as although I am not a person who consumes food pertaining to the category of ‘endangered’ yet I belong to a community which eats such food and thus it is of relevance for me. My family eats such type of food items and thus it becomes essential and relevant for me to make them realise that preserving such kind of food is essential and important to save such taste for future generations also. 3. What shapes the wine consumer according to Charters? There are a large number of factors which shape the consumers of wine as per Charters. These factors consist of consumer attitudes, culture, demographics, and consumption habits. Further, it has been ascertained that the consumer attitude is composite of aspects such as aroma, certifications, tastes etc. The socio cultural and demographic aspects such as race, ethnicity, age, gender etc. shapes the wine consumer as per the ideology of Charters (O’Flanagan, 2018). 4. Use Charters's analysis to describe your personal and social context in relation to wine drinking? Wine tourism is on a rise within many of the countries across the global territory. In this regard, it has been analysed as per Charters's analysis that segmentation, culture and nationality are three major aspects which are duly taken into account while businesses such as wineries promote wine drinking. Hereby, personal context refers to the ideologies, perceptions and views held by consumers in relation to consumption of wine. Further, social context consists of culture and nationality of individuals, this is important as there are many nations which have restrained its population from consuming wines (Weaver, Powell and Leson, 2019). I belong to Bulgaria whereby the demand for wine is constantly diminishing owing to the changes taking place in tastes and preferences of people as well as daily habits of population of the respective nation. The constantly decreasing demand for wine together with the shortage in number of wineries within my locality restrain me from consuming wine on a large scale. Thus, it can be said that personal and social context largely affect the pattern of wine drinking. 2
