1. a) Describe what simulation isEmergency simulation is the enactment of an emergency occurrence that could happen at a workplace. A simulation is a way to test an organisation’s emergency response plan and allows acompany to perfect a plan before the occurrence of the actual event. It can also show dangers thatcan be eliminated or controlled to deter an emergency from happening. However, an organisation cannot conduct an efficient simulation if emergency response plan is not in place. The plan can be a lengthy document stating who is supposed to respond to an emergency as well as how. Plans usually require response groups to perform specific plus coordinated activities involving sophisticated levels of communication. However, reviewing written information with the response team and workers is not sufficient to prepare for an emergency situation.b) Describe your role in managing emergency situations When making an emergency action plan, one may wish to choose a responsible person to lead as well as coordinate contingency plan as well as evacuation. However, it critical that workers understand who the person in charge is as well as understand whether he/she has the power to make decisions in the event of an emergency. The role of a coordinator in managing emergency situations would be first, to access the situation to know whether activation of your emergency procedures is necessary. Second, is to supervise all efforts in that area including evacuation personnel. Third, to coordinate other services like local fire departments and medical aid to ensure that they’re always ready as well as notified if necessary. The last role would be to direct a closure of the organisation when necessary.c) Reflect on the simulation and provide suggestions for improvement. As we all know, nobody expects a disaster or an emergency particularly that affects their workers, clients or the business itself. However, the truth is that disasters/emergencies can occur anytime, anywhere and to anyone. A workplace emergency is defined unforeseen scenarios or situation that threatens your workers, clients and the public as well. It disrupts operations of an organisation or causing environmental and physical damage. Disasters can be humanmade or natural, and they include the following; fires, explosions, chemical spills, hurricanes and toxic gas release to mention just a few.In the event of these disasters, it would be ideal to prepare for an emergency before it strikes. Noteveryone can think straight in disasters, so it would be prudent to do so earlier on when you havehumble time to be keen. Think about the worst-case scenarios that can happen and ask yourself how you would respond to such crisis in the event it strikes. Another improvement would be to do a hazard assessment to know if any of the chemical or physical hazards in an organisation cancause a disaster. An emergency action plan should be used in every organisation and needs to include some of the following elements; evacuation policy/procedure, a suitable strategy for reporting to emergencies and rescue/medical responsibilities for any employee meant to execute them.
