Title - to explore the advantage of globalisation in emerging in new market.
LO 1
P1Produce a research proposal that clearly defines a research question or hypothesis
Background of research
Globalisation has transformed the overall world economy. It has opened the boundaries
of countries for business to trade globally. This has created vast number of opportunities for
growth and development of businesses (Papastergiadis, 2018). Apart from it, by entering in
markets has made it easy for companies to develop new products and services. also, people are
able to select from variety of goods available. Globalisation has helped big brand to emerge at
global level. They are able to build customer base in different markets and generate more profits
and sales. It has enabled them to improve living standard of society by fulfilling needs of people.
Aim and objectives:
Aim – To explore the benefits of globalisation in expansion of business. A case study on Tesco.
Objective
ï‚· To identify positive impact of globalisation on retail sector.
ï‚· To evaluate how globalisation has benefited Tesco to expand in different markets
ï‚· To access the areas where business functions of Tesco has improved
Research questions
ï‚· What role does globalisation play in emerging at global level?
ï‚· How globalisation has forced business to expand in new markets?
ï‚· How companies are benefited due to expansion in different markets?
Literature review
According to Pieterse, 2015, in today’s era every company is trying to enter in new
market so that they can sustain for long term. Globalisation has given them platform to operate in
different countries. it has allowed them to build trade relations with other countries (Economic
benefit of globalisation. 2018). besides this, many governments have reformed their trade and
tariff policies so that economic growth can be increased. for example, India has allowed 100%
FDI in every sector. So, it has attracted big firms to operate there. IKEA has taken advantage of
it as they opened their first store in Bengaluru. Now, in future they will expand in other parts of
country.

As said by Steger, 2017, the main benefit companies have got due to global trade is by
exchanging data and information they are able to design new products at low cost. with help of
it, customer can get high quality goods at low cost. alongside it, with advancement in technology
company’s operational efficiency has increased. furthermore, by using social media products are
promoted in effective way. through this, large number of people are attracted. In view of
Costinot and RodrÃguez-Clare, 2014., there is both positive and negative impact of globalisation
of economy and businesses. But on contrary, there is more positive impact. It has enabled in
economies of scale. The integration of culture and ethics has ease way of trade. In addition the
combination of economies has enhanced lifestyle of people. as elucidated by Dunning,
2014, people are now more aware different types of products available in market. they are able to
compare and purchase best one. It has benefited both consumer and business to a great extent.
In the opinion of Scheuerman, 2017, there are many more advantage businesses have
got. By sharing of technology, they are able to produce high quality products at low cost.
moreover, the operational efficiency has enhanced. by creating awareness about products at
global level, organisations are able to build a large customer base. From this they are able to
compete with local rivals. The main advantage is consistency in operations has boosted
performance of enterprise. With continuous expansion businesses have maintained consistency
in their sales. For example, if adequate profits are not generated from one market then other areas
or region can be focused on. As elucidated by Crane and Matten, 2016, organisations are no
longer dependent on one market for profit generation. It has reduced the burden on firms.
P2 Examine appropriate research methods and approaches to primary and secondary research
A research methodology creates a framework in which there are various research
methods included. It gives an insight to researcher to process in step by step manner. There are
many methods which is as follows :-
Research design – it is useful to get an overview about what is overall research objective. The
research design is of two types that is exploratory and conclusive. In exploratory more areas or
theories are identified while in conclusive research is done to come up at final conclusion. Here,
researcher will use exploratory design to generate more theories about globalisation.
Research philosophy – in this the researchers gets an idea that how data is gathered and
interpreted. The selection of philosophy depends on nature of research. Approaches like realism,

will be applied.
Research approach - the method through which data is collected falls under research approach.
It describes the way of data collection (Coleman, 2016). There are three types of approach
namely deductive, inductive and abductive. In this research, inductive approach will be used. It
will help in generating new theories from topic.
Data collection – in order to attain aims and objectives, data must be collected in effective way.
this is because results are dependent on data collected. Primary and secondary are two most
common data collection methods. In present research, both methods will be used by researcher.
In primary questionnaire will be used and in other previous articles, journals, etc. will be
searched to gather data. With help of it, accurate results will be generated.
Data sampling- here, researcher divided population to select sample on which research will be
conducted. Data sampling techniques are stratified, random, etc. for this research, the researcher
will select random sampling method. In this 15 employees of Tesco will be selected.
Data analysis – the data must be interpreted appropriately so that accurate results are obtained.
The process through which data is evaluated in known a data analysis method. For this different
tool are available. In this researcher, data will be interpreted by using thematic analysis
technique.

P3 Conduct primary and secondary research using appropriate methods
Every research consists of some procedure which is followed to conduct research in
ethical manner. In also includes some elements which gives an insight that how much time and
cost will be required. The elements are described as follows :-
Cost – it is important for researcher to determine estimate of cost so that resources can be
allocated accordingly (Haynes, 2016 ). also, it helps in effective allocation of resources required
in each activity The total cost required will be approx. $550.
Access- it means that which person will have access to see research data and results. It is
necessary to assign responsibility to person so that data or information is not misused. In present,
only researcher and team involved in it will have access to data.
Ethics – there are some rules and regulation which must be followed by researcher. This is
because it will help in conducting research in authentic way. here, some ethics will also be

By conducting research, it was concluded that I was able to attain aims and objectives in
specified time frame. Moreover, it would have been easy to apply different method to conduct
research. I selected exploratory method which helped me in researching in depth about how
globalisation has benefited retail sector. Moreover, with help of it I was able to collect more
precise and accurate data. I selected inductive approach which was useful for me to generate new
theories about topic. I selected this because globalisation is very wide area so it helped me in
taking particular field and gathering data and information. I was able to evaluate which area has
been benefited to a great extent. I collected data by primary method. So, it was easy for me to
analyse and interpret it and obtain outcomes. In addition to it, by applying random sampling
technique I was easily able to select sample size. This saved my time as well as cost. the thematic
analysis tool was used to interpret data. this was chosen by me as it is simple and effective tool to
analyse data.

P7 Consider alternative research methodologies
A research can be conducted through various method as well. It depends on researcher
that what method will be applied by him or her. In context to present research, certain different
method could have been used or applied. I should have used conclusive design. by selecting this
deign it would help in finding conclusion that how tesco has benefited from globalization. It will
be easy to prove that company have successfully expanded into different markets. The Deductive
approach can be used. In this it would have thrown light on hypothesis that whether tesco is
benefited or not. Moreover, data collected can be different. Whereas realism philosophy the
theory can be generated from it that there is positive impact of globalization on tesco. the
secondary data can be gathered to determine the business functions which are been benefited and
to how much extent. In this qualitative data can be collected from previous research articles,
journals, etc. it must have given a more precise overview about tesco operations. SPSS must
have been used to interpret data. It would have given accurate results leading to attain in aims
and objectives.
