INTRODUCTIONHealth and safety of person comes under the health and safety legislative. In dental healthcare, this means valuing health of an individuals as key priority. Each territory and state hasworkplace safety and health legislation which contains specific obligations for staff (Shaw andDownie, 2014). There are different acts for the health and safety of staff which has to be followby the dental health care.TASK 1Legislation and policiesIn every workplace there are some polices to work in a proper manner, there are someprotocol for health and safety in dental health care they are:Procedures:Safety: When radiation used patients are given special blankets for protection.Health insurance portability and accountability act.: Under this act patient privacy isprotected to being misused. Health and safety at work act 1974 is an act which include safety, securing health andwelfare of individual at work. And protecting people against risks or safety which is connectedwith activities of individual at work. In dental profession health and safety legislation desires toprotect patients and staff. COSHH covers substance which is hazardous to health such as chemicals, dusts, mists,fumes, vapours, gases, biological agents like germs. Environmental protection act 1990 is include controlling air pollution, waste disposalmanagement and clean air and statutory nuisances. Clinical waste disposal and propermanagement is vital. And strict legislation in work place to keep harmless. Clinical waste such asanimal or human tissues, blood fluids, swabs or dressing, needles, syringes etc. this type of wastemay be hazardous in dental clinics (Rogo, 2012).Ionisation radiation (medical exposure) regulation are designed for who use X- rays fordiagnosis of patients. It is applicable to nurses, radiographers, doctors, clinical technologists. Indental clinics IR(ME)R is used to get X-rays of teeth.
