INTRODUCTIONOperations management is an approach which emphasise on the business process toensure to maximise the productivity of the production of goods and services (Yang, Hong andModi, 2011). It is essential for the company to increase the effectiveness of the products andservices for their users and as well as it is also essential for the company to arrange their businessactivities in an appropriate manner. The below present report is based on the Marks and Spenserwhich is a multinational retailer supermarket. The report is having content on the different typesof leadership and management styles and comparison in between them. Leaders and managersare having different types of role in the organisation and they are having their own characteristicwhich help to them which are described under here in the report. Operational management ishaving a large significance for the company which are mentioned under the report. At the lastthis report is having factors which are impacting on the operational management.
TASK 1P1 Definition of leaders and managers with a comparison the different rolesand characteristics of leader and managerLeaders: Highly positioned person in the organisation which are havingauthority to make decisions and policy for the organisation (Wu, Olson andBirge, 2011). They are highly skilled to make policies and implement it onthe organisation, they are having a decision making power in each andevery types of situation which help to the company to survive incircumstances. Manager: A person in the organisation which is having management skillsto manage employees in the organisation to make a proper administrationin the organisation. They are having a liability to engage employees in thework according to the directions of the leaders. Both managers and leaders are have their own role in theorganisation and they are having different types of characteristic. Acomparison is given under here on the basis of the Mintzberg's role of themanagers and leaders.;Category Managers Leaders InterpersonalManagers are having a role offigurehead, which providedetails to the employees toperform better and as well assubordinates gets inspirationfrom them. As well asmanagers are working as aliaison person in the teamswhich creates a connection inbetween the highermanagement and employees.So they are totally working toLeaders are working as a guidefor the organisation and as wellas to the employees to providea guideline to them to performtheir work in an appropriatemanner. So they are providinga guideline for the managers toapply it on the subordinates.
