2ORGANIZING A CONFERENCE
Introduction
A conference can be defined as a meeting of a group of individuals who confer about a
certain topic. An organization held conferences chiefly to achievecertain goals which are either
short-term or long term aims of the company (Zaman, 2014). A conference not only acts asa
catalyst for change, but also offers a bonding between the employees and the managers. Apart
from this, an effective conference can easily solve various issues of an organization along with
providing various opportunities that can lead to a prosperous future of the organization. In this
report, several activities that are required to conduct a conference for X company, have been
performed. X Companywhich is a well-known construction organization of Australia, is recently
losing its consumer loyalty due to improper disposal of constructional waste. The company has
also received governmental notices for illegal dumping of waste. Hence this conference is
performed to find out necessary solutions that can efficiently solve the above mentioned
problem. In this report several activities related to conduction of the conference have been
performed.
Selection and explanation of the purpose of the topic chosen
Considering the fact that the purpose of the topic of the conference chosen is waste
management in construction industries of Australia, the chief reason behind choosing this topic is
to minimize the burning issue of increasing water, environment and soil pollution in the country
due to the above mentioned topic. According to the Department of sustainability, Australia, on
2008-9, a total of approximately 19.0 million tones of demolition and constructional waste had
been generated in Australia (Yuan, 2013). Out of the mentioned waste, only 10.5 million tons
were recovered and recycled. Hence the Australian government is taking initiative to reduce

constructional waste with the help of several regulations that have framed the building material
market. Therefore, construction waste management is important to pass the City and health code
that exists specially to assure that wastes are managed in anecofriendly way. Besides that, proper
construction waste management also ensures the safety of the construction site. It also ensures
favorable impression of the consumers and environment protection. These are the chief purposes
behind choosing construction waste management as the topic of the conference conducted by the
constructional company, X Construction Limited.
Identification of the most appropriate style for the conference
As being stated earlier, the chief reason behind this conference is to find out ideal
methods for construction waste disposal, the appropriate conference style for this conference will
be ‘problem-solving’ style of conference. While conducting a problem solving conference, focus
of the conference should be development of strategies and plans to solve the present issue and
successfully navigate the future. There are three major steps of conducting the above mentioned
style of conference (Angouri, 2012).. While the first step involves identification of priorities and
scope, the second step includes identification of the threats and opportunities. In the final step,
possible solutions are brainstormed, evaluated and agreed upon. Considering the fact that the
primary goal of a problem solving conference is to take a decision based on the discussion,
wrong action, if chosen, can be highly demanding (Bardach & Patashnik, 2015). Therefore, the
X Company needs to abide by the following suggestion to prevent severe loss in the future:
1. The company should agree to the most optimal measures recommended to deal with
waste management. The measures should involve detailed research so that the
solution can provide prolonged benefits.
