COL 145: PERSUASIVE ESSAY PLAN There are2parts in this plan. Each part is worth 50 points. Please complete both parts fully. PART 1: PLANNING THE RHETORICAL SITUATION (50 points): Write your answers to the questions in the boxes provided. You may find some answers to be overlapping. Try to answer as many questions as possible. Your answers should reflect some depth/breadth of knowledge on your commodity, and should be precise. 1.Identification of the commodity -What is the significance of this commodity? Why is this commodity important? -What is the information you want the readers to learn about this commodity? -What is the impact of this commodity on the environment, society, and/or animals? Animals help in maintaining the natural environment and they help in pollinating various kinds of plants. Animals exhale carbon dioxide which is in turn needed by the green plants in order to live. They also help in fertilizing plants with the help of droppings. I want the readers to learn that animals are crucial for maintain balance of ecosystem and they should be left at their natural habitat instead of being caged and treated as a commodity. Animals are crucial for maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and they are significant for the survival of human life. 2.Identification of the audience In this part, consider the age, gender, language, culture, level of education, economic class, geographic location, and/or other circumstances of your audience. -Who do you want to persuade? -Why do you want to address this group? -Is this audience hostile, sympathetic and/or neutral to your message? Why? -Are there any cultural sensitivities you should consider?
-How much does your audience already know about the commodity? Those people who keep animals in cages and treat them as their toy has to be persuaded from discontinuing with this malpractice. The people who are involved in trafficking of animals and are ignorant about the importance of animal has to be persuaded from continuing with this evil malpractice. This group has to be addressed as they are the ones most prone to this illegal trade and they can easily be persuaded by other people. The people who keep the animals within confines has to be made known about the negative impact that this method has on the overall health of the animals(Dailymail.co.uk, 2017). This audience is neutral to the message as they are unaware about their wrong doings. There are rich people who keep the animals as pets and keep them in unhealthy surroundings. They consider it to be a part of ritual and their cultural sensitivities should be understood. 3.Purpose -What is your argument and position? -What is the message you want to convey to this audience? -What do you hope will be achieved? My argument is that animals should not be used for the entertainment of the humans and they should not be left at the mercy of cruel humans who continue to use them for serving their own interest(Onegreenplanet.org, 2017).They should not be used as a commodity to serve the human interest. The message that I want to convey is that animals should be respected and treated as an important part of human life. I think I will be able to persuade the ignorant people by the help of my arguments however the poachers are well aware of their wrong doings and the government has to take strict steps against these people in order to bring them to the right track("Cheetah is now 'running for its very survival'", 2017).
4.Strategy (Ethos, Pathos, Logos) -Do you plan to use ethos? How? -How do you plan to affect your audience emotionally (pathos)? -How do you plan to appeal to your audience’s sense of logic (logos)? I might or might not use ethos. I would like to influence the audience emotionally by referring to the state that the world is heading towards and the way extinction of animals would impact the human race("Why We Need to Teach Kids That Exotic Animals Are Not Pets or Toys", 2017). I would appeal to their sense of logic by pointing out to them that if animals are not there then we would not be able to get eggs or milk. Dairy products would also go missing if the cows and goats disapper from the face of the earth. 5.Research List your references inAPA styleand in alphabetical order.
