Reflective Writing: Enhancing Presentation and Team Skills

PORTFOLIO_2: Reflective Writing
After completing the group assignment I experienced several aspects of public speaking and
presentation. Firstly I would like to mention that working in a team helped me develop my group
management and group involving skill. With team development skill I enhanced my coordination
and cooperation approaches which are essential in a group activity. Presentation taught me
understands my positive and negative aspects of public speaking and communication. At the
initial stage of communication I was nervous and not sure of several issues such as body
language, how to start the conversation, ways of answering the public and how to respond to
questions when asked if any (Bolton, 2014). Thus the group presentation gave a complete
exposure which was unique and will help me when I will work in the professional world and
present ideas to the team.
As a team of 5 to six members we first decided on the topic and then developed the layout for
presentation and planned the content accordingly. Both the visuals of the slide and content were
developed at the same time to help in effective communication (Bowman, 2008). I learnt ways of
accommodating content in a crisp manner on the slide and then explain the bullet points through
verbal communication. In a team of five members we all participated one at a time and shared
our opinion. At times there was dispute and sometime even conflict happened and during the
course of the presentation development we even learnt to manage conflict or else other teams
would have performed better. It is through this process I learnt that in order to achieve the
common goal we have to function as one team and think and speak alike and eliminate individual
expectations and opinion. Only after evolving as likeminded individual we successfully
completed the presentation. Now I am confident about my presentation skill. I have identified
certain issues in my presentation and have decided to learn and improve my performance so that
I could offer impressive performance in future when I join the professional world (Williams,
Woolliams & Spiro, 2012).
I have also enhanced my software handling skill and am able to use both power point software to
create presentation and I am also knowledgeable about the use of OHP. I know how to explore
the content and present it in an attractive and informative manner so that the right information

reaches the listener. I have also learnt that simply speaking about the topic and my aims and
objectives of the project often become monotonous after a certain time period. Hence, interactive
and interesting activities should be included so that the listener gets interested and is willing to
find out what is there in the next slide. Creating curiosity is essential so that the listeners enjoy
the conversation from beginning to the end and participate to enrich the discussion and
presentation (Wright & Bolton, 2012).
