ASSIGNMENT 2
The concept of telemedicine is not novel. In fact, when one is sick he or
she often picks up a phone and discusses his or her health condition as well
as possible intervention with his or her health care provider via the
telephone. When an accident has occurred we usually dial 911 to get
emergency help. These are just instances of use of telemedicine.
Telemedicine is the application of electronic information and communication
technologies to offer health care services when distances separates the
patient and the healthcare professionals.
In real-time telemedicine, the equipment or technology used in
capturing the data is called as the codec that compresses the picture in
video form transmitted and decompresses it thereafter at the receiving
place. Codec has the potential to transmit or relay the compressed data on
the telephone network and digital lines. On the prerecorded telemedicine,
the pictorial data is usually digitized with the use of special technology like
digital camera and transmitted between sites through computes having
access to a network (Fathi, Modin and Scott, 2017). Moreover, if the
technology does not have a built-in facility capable of digitizing the data,
equipment like video-card maybe put in the computer to digitize the data. In
Prerecord telemedicine, also referred to as store-and- forward or
asynchronous telemedicine, the individual receiving the information as well
as the person sending it do not necessarily need to do so simultaneously,
therefore viewing the information may be done at a different time. It is an
effective way for primary care providers, patients, and specialists to interact
