Task 1 – Windows Installation
Microsoft’s Windows is closed source operating system. Microsoft is an international brand in
the field of computer technology. Microsoft Corporation creates Windows operating system.
Windows 10 is latest version of windows (Fisher , 2018). We are using Windows 8.1 pro 32-bit
operating system for this assignment because of low resources demand as well as idle for virtual
installation. VMware workstation is used for virtual installations, we are using VMware for this
project, and it is available on VMware website (VMware, 2016).
Microsoft is providing windows operation system with pay. However, Linux is an open source as
well as more secure and reliable ass compared to Windows operating system.
1. Windows Installation
a. Installation key stages identification.
1. In present, Windows 10 is latest operating system in the market that is provided by the
Microsoft. I downloaded Windows 8.1 pro 32-bit from the official site of Microsoft. I started
installation process for installing windows operating system through virtual machine (Microsoft,
2019).
2. First page is showing the details for selecting language, time and currency format, and
keyboard input method as shown in below diagram. Windows 8.1 pro 32-bit operating system is
better according to my hardware and usability.

3. Next step is having two choices, first is install now and second is repair your computer
that is for previous windows operating system. So click on install now. Repair option is
used for repairing the previous windows operating system. It can be use recovery disk
for implementation of same as previous installation.
4. Next page is for license agreement. In this page, select check box then click on next
button. Microsoft is license and agreement is covering all the conditions that are used for
security and usability of software. It is also cover rules and regulations for use of
Windows operating system.

5. Next step is windows setup in which click on custom that will provide a new copy of
windows operation system. Upgrade option is used for the upgradation of previous
windows operating system with application, setting and files.
6. Next step is selection part for drives. If there is, any personal requirements for personal
data then select desired size and click next. I select 30 GB for windows installation and
30 GB for personal storage. User can take more space according to their requirements.
Many users are having large application or software for different uses. Therefore, they
require more data storage in C drive.
7. In next step installation, files are expanded by windows. Windows system is expending
those files from installation media. It is having patch files, which are extract from image
files of the installation media.

8. Next step is personalization of our computer system in which user can choose color and
PC name. Windows operating system provides different color themes for modification.
9. Next step is settings and I choose express setting in which everything automatically setup
for us. User can also customize those setting according to their needs. Both options are
available for user. Express setting option is providing better settings.

10. After express setting, it will show us desktop. It have recycle bin folder at main screen as
well. All these things are managed according to the user’s recommendation.
b. Device driver description and their sources for download
Driver is a software program that makes an interface between software and hardware. All the
drivers are installed in the system and they were located at windows/system32/drivers folder
(support.microsoft.com, 2019).
