While a number of the astronomers suggest Pluto should be grouped as a minor planet owing to
the size, physical features among others, other astronomers are on the defence of the planet status
of Pluto suggesting numerous main features. The main challenge and reason for such a variation
in ideology among the astronomers are as a result of the fact that there is no formal and specific
definition of a planet.

Astronomers have spent more than a decade debating over the classification of Pluto and a paper
that was recently published provided a new even though the surprisingly old argument for the
restoration of the planetary status of the object (Weintraub). The new research dwells on not just
the quality of the celestial bodies themselves but also the last two centuries of scientific
