Athletic Performance
Introduction
Athletics has been something each of us has participated in during our young age but for
many continued participation in athletics gradually fades away as we grow older. Athletics
plays a huge role towards every individual's performance thus it should not be limited to
athletic events but should also be associated and linked to good health (Barber, 2006). Daily
participation in an athletic sport should be prioritized by each person but this also makes it
important to the forms of athletics and picks one which suits you best.
Components for successful performance of an athletic
Many sports and games fall under athletics making it important to first list the possibilities
and determine the most suitable sports or game to adopt. It’s essential to make sure the sports
you select are suitable for you and for your personal interest (Reiman & Manske, 2009). In
addition to this endurance and ability to participate in the sports or games, it’s critical for the
individual to have the required skills and is fit and healthy to participate in the sport or game.
Health limitations
Health is a major factor which influences the type of sport you select since some sports
require the participants to exert themselves more than others; games like Tennis require the
sportsperson to run considerably. In situation an athlete cannot participate in physically
enduring games they can opt for less physically strenuous sports and games like golf, darts,
shooting and several others.
Training and sport facilities
Before selecting a sport or game it’s also important to establish if the training and sports
facilities are available in your locality. This is extremely important as you are only likely to
be able to participate and achieved success in a sports or game. Before selecting a sport it’s
essential to have the practice and training facilities in close proximity to your home so as to
ensure continued training during your amateur stages (Noll & Zimbalist, 2011). Only after you
have mastered the skills sets required to rise to a recognizable position in the chosen athletic
field will you be selected to represent your district, state, and nation.

The determination to excel in the athletic games or sport
Simply enrolling and participating in an athletic activity does not necessarily mean you will
achieve success in the field. It’s essential to understand athletics tend to be physically
enduring and will place considerable pressure on the athlete (Hagger & Chatzisarantis, 2007).
This is especially true during the initial stages when the athlete would experience issues
related to physical endurance and strain as well as muscle cramping and pain. It is essential to
maintain full determination and focus towards achieving success and retaining for focus
towards the long-term goals.
Appropriate coaching queue to assist individuals to improve their performance and
event skills
Performance management is a term many people associate with businesses but it’s also an
important term used in athletics. Being a physical activity performed by athletes there is no
way of actually gauging and maintaining an individual’s performance. This makes it
important for the coach to manage their athletes carefully to maintain optimum performance
at most times but most especially before major sports events (Nash, 2014). Factors such as
psychological strain, stress, diet and daily practice play an important role towards ensuring
the athlete maintains their stamina to perform as per the expectations.
The coach’s responsibility is to manage each of these factors thus making it important for a
coach to build a strong bond with his team and athletes who should view the coach more as a
mentor than a coach. There must be a professional relationship but friendly and personal
interactions thus maintaining a close bond between the athletes and their coach. This helps
the coach determine subtle changes an athlete may be experiencing thus allowing the coach to
intervene and prevent it from affecting the individual performance.
We are human and not machines thus we must also realize and understand we cannot achieve
optimum performance at all times so should avoid over staining ourselves over
underperformance (Pargman, 2013). Instead, the athlete must learn to focus their attention
towards building morale during times they feel down thus helping them to optimize
performance before and during major sports events.

Conclusion
Athletics performance is something which an athlete and their coach must learn to work
around since optimum performance cannot always be achieved. Just like office workers,
athletes also get bored of the same routine each day and will require motivation and morale
building. The main point is being able to manage the routine so athletic meets are prepared
for the main events and capable of delivering their optimum performance at the main events.
