Australia is a major producer and exporter of
agricultural products. The benefits that accrue from
agricultural practices in the land actually contribute
12% of the country’s GDP. It is inevitable to ignore
the special place of farming in our land. The vast
pieces, despite being owned by the government are
owned by farmers and grazers dealing in a variety of
crops and livestock. The changing climatic conditions
has however hindered progress for most of the
farmers in Australia leading to decline in production
and hence losses.
The aspect of varying economic situations as one
move from one region to another is another notable
challenge to most farmers in the land. Livestock and
crop diseases have also raised havoc especially in the
remote parts of the land where farmers are unable to
access the much needed counter measures. Due to the
important place of Agriculture in Australia, the
farmers need to be empowered, supported, exposed
and encouraged to proceed alongside their endeavors
For instance, some of the farmers would be better
placed to deal with the challenge of livestock
diseases if they had prior and adequate information
regarding the causes of such challenges and hence the
possible mitigation procedures.
In a bid to save agriculture and hence the land of
Australia, various organizations have been
established. One of these is Aussie helpers, a
nonprofit organization which supports farmers in
Australia in a number of ways. The organization
provides counseling services to farmers hence
according them the necessary knowledge and skills
which would be pivotal when it comes to carrying out
productive agricultural practices.
The organization also offers volunteer workers to
help the farmers with their livestock and crops. This
strategy has been handy especially for the farmers
who lack labor but have vast agricultural projects.
Aussie helpers additionally provide financial aid to
farmers to help them cater for the related costs. The
organization entirely draws its strength from the
presence and activity of well wishers not only in
Australia but in other regions in the world
The fact that it is a non-profit organization implies
that the funds are mainly drawn from donations. At

Farming remains one of the healthiest and safest ways of improving the economic lives
and hence the living standards of individuals. Industrialization takes a better chunk of the
elements that determine the economic well being of a country. However, Agriculture comes with
the most hope in line with environmental conservation and saving our land for the future
generations. The amount of damage on the environment that has been caused by industrialization
goes beyond measure. What if in their places, farming was more pronounced? We would be
having the drastic changes in climatic conditions as a result of interferences on the Ozone. In my
opinion, embracing farming as the core determinant of a country’s GDP would be the most
effective step. This is a feat that one may not achieve without the adequate involvement of the
farmers. Despite the fact that farming may not require elaborate skills and long periods in
learning institutions, the farmers especially in the rural settings need to empowered, guided,
supported and exposed on matters related to agriculture.
Embracing farming would not only lead to positive impacts on the environment but
equally comes with economic benefits to the farmers and the society as a whole. This actually
reveals more reasons why farmers especially in the rural set ups should be supported. The level
of poverty especially among the indigenous farmers is high. This has led to the emergence of
criminal activities such as drug use as people seek for alternative means of making ends meet.
Farming provides a better alternative in such situations. The fact that there are vast pieces of land
lying unused in some parts of Australia makes this strategy more achievable with the
incorporation of the right measures. The introduction of non-governmental organizations to
support farmers has been a welcome idea as the impacts are already notable in most parts of the

country. The increasing number of farming activities however indicates the need for more
support. The high level of unemployment in some areas has caused individuals to resort to both
small scale and large scale farming. These ventures require resources such as labor, finances,
capital in addition to ideas. I believe it would be more fulfilling to support a farmer and help
them achieve their agricultural dreams than support the establishment of a rehabilitation center to
help drug addicts. While both are important reactions to social problems, supporting a farmer
comes with more benefits which include economic empowered, reduction in the rate of
unemployment as well as the improvement of living standards. Furthermore, the effects of
drought and floods pose as major challenges to farmers in Australia. If they are equipped with
the necessary counter strategies to these challenges, they are more likely to stay on the land.
Organizations such as Aussie Helpers are crucial to the Australian society hence the need to
enhance the continuity of such through continued support and widening the network of
volunteers.
A persuasive call for more volunteers and donors
The initial idea of the founders of Aussie Helpers, a couple in the remote areas of
Australia, was to help not only the farmers who were struggling but also the victims of drought
and floods experienced in most parts of the country as a result of the varying climatic conditions.
The foundation has since grown in leaps and bounds. Many farmers have now become
independent and are effectively tending their crops and looking after the livestock with the
required touch of experience (Guarreillo, 2017). The living standards of some of the farmers who
have since benefited from the support of the organization have also been changed greatly. We try
to imagine what the situation would be like without the presence of such supportive initiatives in
Australia and realize that the venture has a lot of value.

To begin with, most farmers would struggle in the past due to lack of ideas and resources
to achieve their farming objectives. Due to the overwhelming challenges, many pieces of land

Apart from counseling, the organization also has a network of volunteers who help the
farmers in the fields. The low level of infrastructure has made accessibility to most of the rural
farms a major challenge. In order to adequately achieve this objective, the organization has
established a convenient network such that the volunteer is connected to a farm that is near their

With the increase in number of farmers against a slowly growing economy, there is an
inevitable need for more support. Based on the advantages indicated above, more volunteers and
supporters are urged to join the network stakeholders at Aussie Helpers. In order to achieve this
we can prevail upon the already existing team of volunteers to advocate for those around them to
also join in supporting a struggling Australian farmer. The help accorded to these individuals

may not come with any monetary benefits on the side of the employers but the impacts of this
kind act shall curve a long lasting mark not only in the lives of the farmers but the society around
them as well. As a strategy to gain more financial support, the organization can review its data
base to identify the farmers who were once helped but have now become established. These
farmers are then requested to give back to the organization by supporting other upcoming
farmers through counseling and financial support (Austin, 2016). Additionally, the organization
can root for support from the ministry of Agriculture who can help in supplying resources such
as farming tools, seeds, pesticides and fertilizer just to mention but few. With such platforms it
becomes possible for Aussie Helpers to use the finances on other areas of empowerment. To save
our land, we need to empower a farmer. To ensure the best future for our children in terms of
environmental conservation, we need to support a farmer. To minimize the drastic impacts of
floods and drought, we sure need to support a farmer. At the end of this reading, I believe an
individual has been convinced on the need to join the campaign to support struggling farmers in
Australia.
