1AUSTRALIA AND THE WORLD Brock Bastian attempts a discussion on the changes that are faced by the Australians in terms of the multiculturalism that exists within the country. The author further discusses the adaptation techniques that are implemented by the Australians in order to deal with the immigration of the residents of Asian countries into the territorial boundaries of Australia (Bastian 2012). The author reflects on the childhood memories that he has of the interaction with the people from differing cultural backgrounds. The author states that the Australians have evolved a lot in terms of the acceptance of the people who tend to arrive or settle down within the Australian territories but are not natives of the country. The author presents the definition of the identity as well as reflects on the identity of the Australian people (Bastian 2012). The second major factor that the Author uses is the reviewing of the research material on the process of acculturalization as well as the immigration. The author further discusses the very subtle area of balance that is essential for the development of the multiculturalism that would be functional and would help the incorporation of the people from the other cultural backgrounds into the Australian backgrounds. The author is further observed to look into the similarities and the distinctions that are maintained within the Australians and the immigrants into the Australian markets. The immigration within the Australian territories is being observed since the colonization of the country by the fair-skinned people in the early days. The author opines that the cultural factors that are maintained within the Australian territorial boundaries tend to be a merger of the cultural factors that are maintained by the people residing within the given area. The author states that the Australian territories have faced a high amount of immigration in the past years which has led to the major focus on the issues that are presented due to the highlighting of the differences among the people from varied cultural backgrounds (Bastian 2012). The majority of
2AUSTRALIA AND THE WORLD the issues that have been highlighted generally talk about the inability of the concerned citizens to look forward to the development of the intergroup relations. The author opines that the major hindrance to the development of the intergroup relations is the prejudiced mindset of the certain section of the society. The author opines that the people concerned should be advised to let go of the baseless prejudices that tend to cloud their judgments in order to bring forth a sustainability in the multiculturalism.
