Dylan Roscoe, Room 1
Dylan is an eight-year-old boy, who is acquainted with his mother and father both but
separately. Dylan was diagnosed with Autism disorder at the age of four. He was a timid and
quiet kid, but a significant change has been noticed within himself. A drastic change was
noticed within the child, such as he was never interested in playing with other kids of the
same age. At the age of eight, he was spending some quality time at his parents’ place
separately, and he used to stay with his mother from Sunday night till Thursday afternoon,
and from Thursday evening till Saturday at his father’s place. He has been continuing with
his strange habits, and that used to annoy his parents, Anja and Tom Roscoe. He was
suffering from a lot of problems that impacted him a lot in the upcoming years as well for
example, using a limited number of words, yelling loudly, hitting with his feet, and, most
importantly, lack of communication with his family members. He was slowly representing
the ignorance factor towards his mother’s new partner and his young children. Although he
loves visiting his school and doing his own homework somehow, he lacks in socializing with
other kids and wholly ignores them during their playtime. Apart from his severe problems, he
is quite active towards his playful activities, along with his studies. He loves to play with
balls especially with his father, maybe utilizes a limited number of words such as ‘Dad. Ball,
Dylan’ but he is always willing to play at his father’s place. He joins in other activities as
well such as playing with a trampoline and riding on a bike with his father’s company.
Dylan has been suffering from autism disorder, then let’s discuss some of the critical
issues that have been an influential factor during his childhood days. There are severe
symptoms that have been indicating Dylan’s case as taking a severe turn in his family life,
school life, and his own activities. He has been suffering from various adverse impacts such
as abnormal facial expression, unusual change in behavior, abnormal body movements, poor

eye contact, weak social interaction, and inadequate tone of voice, flat speech, and deficits in
language comprehension. Therefore, now it has been our lookout that maybe he has been
throwing a message through his behavior like, for example, when he is staying with his
father, he is still making less unusual noises and can enjoy his playful activities. Although,
there is a different set of a case on his mother’s side. He has never been able to accept his
mother’s new partner along with his young kids. They may try to communicate with Dylan
and wanted to play with him when he but he completely ignores them during these playful
activities. There are some critical challenges including limited speech and less social
interaction and that have been severely affected his behavior. Some vital examples have been
presented from Dylan’s case, such as firstly, he utilizes and communicates in a limited
number of speeches like ‘no swim,’ no mum,’ ‘birds flying,’ and ‘Dad. Ball, Dylan.’
Therefore, it is required to gain more understanding to understand Dylan’s case, and
Dylan was severely suffering from isolation especially in his mother’s place. There are some
interventions for behavior that challenges a child and, thus, utilizing the quality approach,
equality, diversity, and language, developmental sources, and quality standard advisory
committee (Guide et al., 2019). In the state of the quality statement, certain measures can be
taken like they should apply quality statements, rationale measures, quality measures, service
providers, health-care measures and social care (Roberts & Simpson, 2016). Therefore,
service providers will help and assure the family members and members of the school
authority to deal with different kinds of behavioral issues. Therefore, these challenges will
never offer antipsychotic medication for the individual’s behavior and it will be considered
only when psychosocial and other interventions are insufficient (Hutchins & Prelock, 2013).
This quality standard has always provided support and immense care through effective
services for little children, young people, along with adults. They have been suffering from a
learning disability (Hwang et al., 2015).

Dylan has been facing troubles both at his house as well as in his school. Thus, it is
required to focus on some essential aspects that have been the primary Therefore, there were
some separate issues and challenges at home as per his parents have claimed such as acting
strange, making unusual noises, and have turned out to become a more silent child than
before. He loves playing in his father’s place especially with his ball at his garden. Yet, quite
frequently, he started hitting his legs, and he will not stop until his parents tried to stop his
unusual movements. He is an active boy who loves to ride his bike like really fast. He is
evident with his intentions like he will help them to understand what exactly he wants to do
like playing with a ball or doing his schoolwork on his own ability. Although speech and
language pathologists will never agree but Dylan is an intelligent boy as he utilizes his
language effectively and he has a good memory while remembering essential aspects. He can
easily repeat lines from his all-time favorite cartoons again and again. He rectifies his
mother’s mistakes while she is communicating, then he will correct her statements and make
her realize that they have done something else. He is less interactive when Anja was having a
family conversation and they were discussing how did they spend their individual days. But
Jayden, the youngest member of their family, is quite afraid of Dylan. Thus, he has been
going away from his family members and has been left alone for a couple of minutes. He
even loves to play puzzles with his father but that does not change his behavior.
Dylan has to face a different level of problems at his school, and it is quite hard to
deal with it. He has been studying in the mainstream, where other children do not have autism
disorder so it will be more challenging to cope up with the situations. He loves to play during
his lunch-break at his school. As it was discussed earlier, that he is an active kid who loves
play with balls and has fun in the jungle gym. He has been quite an acrobat and feels quite
joyful while climbing on the bars and flipping. Every child wants to learn his tricks and wants
to learn from him. But somehow, Dylan ignores them and carries on with his individual

activities. But the teachers are having quite difficult times making him complete his
homework. Dylan used to sit on his mat and may have started working on classwork. When
teachers come to check on his work and he will feel more annoyed and upset. He will start
with his unusual habit of hitting with his legs without stopping it. Another habit has been
recognized such as the sound of humming as well as brushing his fingers on his lips. At first,
the sound was quite low but his behavior got declined day by day. Finally, the school has
decided to shift him from his own desk to another isolated place but that turned out to be even
worse than the previous situation. They even divided his tasks so that they can regularly
check upon his studies and continue to check on his progression and growth. In this way, this
situation influenced him to change himself, along with his behavior and the hitting habit
became even worse. Finally, the most significant aspect that caught the eyeballs was that
other little children came to play with him but he was not occupied with the playful activities
in the playground. He loves going to school but Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe had been quite tensed
about Dylan because of his changed behavior.
Dylan has been suffering from four intense challenges and that are dealt with four
essential functions such as social attention, escape from tangibles and activities, avoidance,
and sensory stimulation. Thus, it is essential to understand the hypothesized function is co-
related to behavioral assessment and it has been stated that behavior has been influenced due
to some critical activities. The case of Dylan should be looked over as a delicate one and two
vital things should be kept in mind while dealing with such a child, firstly he should not be
kept isolated for more than five minutes and he should spend more quality time with his
parents. As noted from his parents, his mother was absolutely not interested in
acknowledging all his mistakes or not even having an ample amount of time to fill the
required documents in order to understand his behavioral issues. According to his father and
mother, they have selected some of the critical issues in the behavioral chart that his son has

been facing all these years. His father has some sincerity towards his son’s issues like he
gives him space and also plays with him and plans for his son’s activities. He also agrees with
his son’s decision like he will start hitting his legs when he refused to attend any activity. He
gives his son some quality time to play with his trampoline. As a parent, he is quite
responsible and knows when to keep him alone and when he should be occupied with other
activities. On the other hand, his mother is quite irresponsible as it can be seen that she left a
few of the places blank. She should not have left him alone as he always feels isolated and he
needs more engagement from his parents.
There are a few things that are required to be noted for Dylan’s case especially, why
does he isolate himself from other children? Does he like his new parent along with his kids?
Is he comfortable enough with his new brothers and if not, what does he want from his
mother? Why does he not like to complete his schoolwork at his school? Does he want to go
back to his own place or want to get less work from his school? Lastly, does he want his
mother and father together?
Therefore, Dylan’s case has been quite different from others, and may he never liked
a few things that’s why he gets annoyed and ignored by his parents. Hence, it is necessary to
acknowledge a few things, firstly he loves to play but ignores other kids. He loves to spend
time with his parents but somehow, he never likes his mother’s new partner. Therefore, it is
necessary to give a thought on his case adequately. They should encourage him to go to
school not just for learning but to make friends and be happy.
