1.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The chief purpose of this report is to propose a systematic approach to eradicate or curtail the problems associated with the Automotive Engineering course at Mataaho, Unitec. The report encompasses all the basic requirements to make a course functional including course papers, consumables, equipments and infrastructure. Deductive reasoning, qualitative and secondary data, face-to-face interviews, data analysis through Google Documents, excel sheet, word document, Gantt Chart and power point are the various methods used for the report. The report has incorporated two specific research questions that are expected to reveal useful findings. The findings indicate that Automotive Unitec needs increased training for Unleashed software. In the literature review section of the report, various aspects of operations management have been discussed. Further, the report discovers that the continuous implementation of JIT, ADKAR Model for change management, TPS and lean principles also eliminates major part of the problem. While investigating the methods for meeting the objective, elements such as investigation period, resources, riskmanagementassessmentandthestructureofinvestigationhavebeen highlighted.Undertheinvestigationpracticesection, timetableschedulingandinventory management has been focused. Further, the report has elaborated on the investigation practice under which included is the 5S process. The report also unveils ways for Report Managers and lecturers to engage in two-way communication, which is a necessary element in people skills. The report concludes with the feasibility of the methods outlined in the report in order to diminish the current problems associated with Automotive Unitec. Recommendations are given at the end of the report that includes identifying list of consumables, organizing equipments into cages and labelling them. Additional recommendations include, developing a system to report any damage of equipment and ensuring availability of correct consumables. Establishing a cleaning and checking schedule for equipment cages and incorporating a barcode system on cages are also included in the recommendations list. BSNS 7350ASSIGNMENT 1A3

2.INTRODUCTION Unitec is currently undergoing a major transformation to update its facilities to ensure students have access to cutting edge technology. The new trades building, Mataaho, is a key component of this vision, driving work integrated learning into the future. Mataaho is New Zealand’s largest open plan trades training facility (Unitec, 2017) and the building along with the associated tooling and equipment has taken significant investment from Unitec. Trades training makes up a large proportion of students studying at Unitec. This project focuses on the Automotive Engineering course run at Mataaho, and comprehensively analyses course papers as well as equipment and consumables required for successful course delivery. Recommendations from this report should be adopted by Unitec to assist in providing a consistently high level of service for students doing automotive training. Any process of change brings problems and takes a lot of work, but it provides opportunities and more possibilities than the status quo (Boston, 2000). With the building being brought into use, several areas of concern became apparent regarding the operation. This provides Unitec the opportunity to further implement new processes to gain efficiencies within the operations and management of Mataaho. This project aims to cover the most significant areas of concern to resolve the most pressing issues and give clear direction to ensure that optimal use can be made of the new facilities. The three key areas decided for the scope of this project are: People management This includes capturing tacit knowledge of staff to form a Knowledge Management Database which can be added to in the future and provide a resource for both the future operations within Mataaho and any new lecturers. Inventory management This aims to formulate a comprehensive tool for both the storage of equipment and management of consumables.
