Novice
At this stage, the nurse practitioner is a beginner with no experience
and is taught the general rules to help carry out tasks.
The novice lacks confidence to demonstrate safe practice and
requires continuous verbal and physical cues to mange their patients.
At this stage the nurse practitioners do not have the ability to predict
what will happen to the patient or even identify the same signs and
symptoms in other patients.
Oshvandi et al. (2016) argue that at this stage, the useful tools of
training like simulators should be employed so as to equip nurses
with the required skills.
The rules employed at this stage are context-free, universally applied
and are independent of specific cases so as to enable the nursing
practitioner to gain more experience (Oshvandi et al., 2016).
