ITECH1103 - Data Analysis: Solar City Project - Energy Consumption

This report presents a big data analysis of the Solar City project, focusing on energy consumption patterns across two regions in Australia. Using IBM Watson Analytics, the analysis explores the impact of geographic characteristics, solar energy technology adoption, and physical dwelling characteristics on power usage. Key findings include the correlation between roof color and power consumption, the impact of PV capacity and insulation, and the identification of top drivers of power usage such as wall construction and suburb type. The report also addresses questions related to power usage trends, identifies suburbs with high PV capacity, and examines the influence of dwelling age and construction materials on energy consumption. Dashboard visualizations are used to highlight efficiencies in energy reduction and to predict future energy demand and CO2 emissions. Recommendations are provided to stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of light-colored roofs, higher PV capacity, and the use of non-brick construction materials.
