The competency framework is of great significance in describing competencies and
foundation practices expected of every Australian Public Health graduate. The framework acts
as an excellent guide to academic teaching programs that are rooted in research and
specialization skills on specific areas of practices that are crucial in development of successful
population health strategies.
Biostatistics is the science that deal with the collection, classification and tabulation of
numerical facts, description and comparison of phenomenon related to biological events that help
in managing medical uncertainties. (Hall, M. F. (1942) Statistical methods have to be applied in
sorting out of various health phenomena, drawing comparisons analyzing and interpreting of
collected data. All these are in presented in the unit PUBH620.
As a scholar on public health I understand my place in this world as very necessary and
always an urgency. There are lots of responsibilities waiting us outside there to attend. The entire
population around the globe are looking down upon us for clean water to drink for large
population, good nutrition, quality air, preventing diseases, and in full devotion towards
increasing life expectancy. Studying PUBH620 course therefore acts as basic foundation to all
my future carrier endeavors.
Having successfully undergone through the PUBH620 program I have gained immense
knowledge and understanding of the concepts therein. This includes the basics and applications
of statistics or basically the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This hypothesis test is of great
significance in determining health conditions being studied given one or several variables. I can
therefore attest that this course study has a lot of impacts and practical applications in performing
public health research as well as in solving day to day health problems.

The contents offered in PUBH620 are in agreement with the required competency in
global healthcare since it offers a wide scale carrier opportunities in settings such as National,
state or local government, private based organizations foundations as well as nonprofit
organizations. In becoming a global health professional, epidemiologist or a public health analyst
I realized that you need this course for better grounding in statistics.
Biostatistics have had a lot of impacts not only on my past experiences but there is also a
possibilities for me to utilize its concepts in shaping my world in the future. During a diagnosis
of cancer patients in Australia, AIDS and other chronic diseases in 2016 and cancer awareness
day, I understand that biostatistics knowledge is heavily utilized. According to (Sokal, R. R., &
Rohlf, F. J. (1987), coming up with the ratio of the infected population (male: women) and even
testing whether the treatment offered would work or not and testing usefulness of vaccines are all
deduced from the biostatistics.
Here are some statistics concepts learnt and are applicable in attaining competence in
delivering public health services. The progressive nature and development of a disease can be
monitored through biostatistics. I have determined that the cancer patients in the word is
increasing annually 14% being made of women. This is not a mare gausses but analysis from the
biostatistics concepts of ANOVA, sampling and correlation. Daniel, W. W., & Cross, C. L.
(1995) argues that a big part of public health lies on its ability on preventive care. Such statistic
reports are important in finding preventive measures that would put me on the forefront in fight
against chronic, viral diseases and any other illnesses affecting the population.
For instance the ANOVA concepts are applicable when measuring the response to a drug
treatment whereby a comparison is being sorted with respect to the trends in there effects over
time and levels of response. The repeated approach I learned in week 8 of the model is essential

here where more than one variables are measured. Other than specific knowledge, I also believe
that such statistical terms and operations will be crucial in solving arising health problems. I will
not only gain expertise but also a great deal of competence in the field.
I believe that biostatics will be of great significance for anyone in the medical field.
Currently scientific research is a crucial aspect and is becoming compulsory to anyone trying to
specialize in the medical profession. Basics in PUBH620 makes an individual like me to stand
tall whenever research theories are required. Just like I and my group members performed a
vigorous in-depth research on immortality rate in which we found it the exercise exiting although
the facts were alarming. Practically, I see this course as offering possibilities for extended
studies and specialization that counts down to increased competency.
I have always learned this key principle by Hall, M. F. (1942)( that we should prioritize
on determining possible interventions for any identified health issue, set regulations and fore see
its effects on the population. Problems will always be there but I believe that PUBH620 has the
dynamics of enabling any public health officer to critically analyze, synthesize complex health
issues by demonstrating autonomy, expert judgment, adaptability and professionalism.
Consequently, all these falls under fundamentals of competency.
In conclusion I find Biostatistics as crucial for any scholar to develop coherent
knowledge and statistical skills for analyzing, selecting and applying various logarithms in
pursuit of solving day to day health problems both in the present and in future. I believe anyone
who will do a reflection on this course will agree with me.
