INTRODUCTION
Learning is important part of the workplace as this helps an individual top grow
professionally and personally and this form of learning is basically referred as the work-based
learning (Luo, He and Yong, 2020). The work- based learning is the effective technique by
which an individual is able to gain experience of working and consecutively develop its
employability and academic skills. The present report is based on the Hiton hotel- a 5 star hotel
based in London. The hotel is highly known for its exclusive services of accommodation, food
and beverages and other customer services. For the report the employment role is project
manager that has responsibility of managing the new and existing development and improvement
projects of the hotel. The report is the reflection of the skills for which skill audit and PDP is
highlighted in report. Report will also highlight the skills and knowledge required for the job role
of project manager.

The skill audit is the effective framework to recognise what skills a individual possess
and at what level of expertise. This will give me an opportunity to identify the new methods or
approach to improve and enhance areas of the weaknesses. In the workplace the skill audit will
help me to develop the skill base that will help in improving my existing skills and more easily I
will be able to meet my daily work and career goals. This is also beneficial for an employer in
arranging the employee training and development session and also through this I will feel more

In order to become Project manager at the Hilton hotel I will be requiring certain skills
and knowledge that will make me enough capable and competent to get selected at that position.
I am working really hard in order to progress for undertaking the role of the project manager at
my desired workplace that is Hilton Hotel. For a project manager role management skills are the
primary and most essential skills. In order to develop outstanding management skills I am
cultivating self – awareness so that in can observe my surrounding and organise the resources
effectively for the better management (Clarke, 2018). I also involve myself in the meeting with
other managers in order to learn from my peers. I am also becoming good communicator and
listener as for the management of the project both are highly essential. Secondly to undertake the
role of project manager at Hilton I am also growing and learning the knowledge about the
hospitality industry and their market trends because in order to enhance the existing projects and
to develop and install new project in the organisation a deep insight of the hospitality industry is
must. Therefore, on the very daily basis I read and enhance my knowledge about the current
hospitality industry. I am also working on my presentation skills as for a project manager to
present a new idea of project presentation is compulsory. Therefore I am taking classes of
developing presentation skills and also practice daily by developing some presentations. Thus, to
undertake the role of Project manager I working really hard on my other secondary skills such as
time management skills, customer service knowledge, technology skills, leadership etc. so that I

project manager. A project manager is person that has role of handling, organising and
controlling the on- going, future and existing projects of the company. The project manager of
the Hilton hotel has to review the resources, supplies of the project, look after the budget of the
project, proposal of the project for the hotel development or improvement and to look at the

Knowledge of market trends of hospitality industry: the in-depth knowledge of the market
trends of the hospitality industry is very important for the project manager. As through this the
project manager will be able to understand the needs and wants of the customers by which
planning of new project will become more accurate and easy. New project are always planned to
meet the market trends therefore knowledge of the market trends of hospitality industry related to
food, technology, entertainment is essential.
Communication skills: the communication skills are always the key skills required for the every
role of the hotel (Lin, 2018). Therefore, for the project manger of the Hilton hotel effective oral
and written communication skills are important in order to have proper message passing without
any barriers. This skill is also useful in communicating with clients and team mates and also
during the public speaking at the time of presentation.
Risk management skills: for planning and execution of a new project risk is always a part and
parcel and to bear this risk effectively without any failure the effective risk management skills
are useful for the project manager of the Hilton hotel. This skill will provide me with confidence
and capability to handle the risk associated with the projects.
Time management skills: the time is asset for the Hilton hotel and wastage or ineffective time-
management can become a huge problem for the hotel. For the project manager it is very
important to adhere to the time in order to meet deadlines and also to protect the budget from
overshooting. An for a successful project manager managing time and schedule are good signs.

advantage in the industry. This report is based on the hospitality firm The Hilton, London which
is sophisticated Hotel located in Hyde Park, London, UK. The Hotel provides modern
accommodation including coffee-makers and flat screen TV. The project undertaken by the
Hilton Hotel at Hyde Park is using Block chain technology (Hsu, Chang and Hung, 2018). This
report provides aims, objectives and target of the project. In addition to this the ways of
managing, monitoring and evaluating stages of project life-cycle are also provided in this report.
Ways used for meeting project deadlines and benefits of setting aims and objectives are also
included in this report. In addition to this reflection on learning experience is provided in this
report by usage of various tools such as SWOT and Porter's five forces analysis.

project execution of a company. In context of hospitality sector it is essential for their companies
to secure the data of their customers, provide supply chain and data privacy guarantee and many
others. Hence, in context of Hilton hotel, they are introducing a new project of adopting block-
chain technology in their hotel for their growth. Block-chain is the technology which stores and
all essential data of the customers like their personal details, their transaction history and many
others.
Targets of using block-chain in Hilton hotel-
There are overall four targets set for having block-chain technology within the mentioned hotel
and these four targets are explained below-
 Secure payments- Block-chain technology help hotels to secure their payments which is
made by their customers. Development of digital technology also increases the treats like
hacking to analyse customers payment systems and use them for personal benefits by
third party. With the help of this technology Hilton can secure the payments of their
customers and store their all transactions safely. This technology unable to enter third
party to misuse the payment data of customers.
 Loyalty programmes- This technology also record the information about the check-in
and check-outs of the customers. Hence, this technology will help Hilton to analyse their

The five sages which every project goes through are described in the project life-cycle.
Usage of the project life-cycle helps helps in effective completion of project as it helps
understand various activities which need to be completed during each stage of the project
(Heidari, Heravi and Esmaeeli, 2020). The five stages provided in the project-life-cycle are
initiation, planing, execution and closure. The project life-cycle is applied to the project of Block
chain technology at the Hilton Hotel along with the techniques which are used to manage,
evaluate and monitor the Block chain technology project: Project initiation: This is the first stage of the project life-cycle in which the reason
behind project existence is figured out. The project aim, scope, key deliverables and
project approach is identified in this stage. As a project manager my role in this phase of
the Block chain technology project at Hilton Hotel is to clarify the vision of the project
and gain approval from the senior leadership of the Hotel so that the project is started.
The techniques which will be used during project initiation are developing a business
case and detailed project charter. This will ensure that targets and objectives of the
project are clear and will also help in enlisting and managing stakeholders of the project
(Vuorinen and Martinsuo, 2019). Project planning: This is an important stage of the project as it involves creating project
schedule and plan which determines the success of the overall project. Risk management
plan, communication plan, WBS, Gantt chart and team roles and responsibilities. The
project planning stage determines how smoothly the project moves through the rest of the
life-cycle which is the reason for high significance of the project planning stage. As a
project manager I will meet with senior management of the Hotel and conduct research
on the Block chain technology to understand project requirement in order to create an
effective project plan. Apart from this I will also determine possible risks associated with
the project and develop risk mitigation plans. The techniques used in this stage of the

project life-cycle to ensure effective management and monitoring of the project are
building a quality plan which aids in monitoring quality of the project by outlining
standards, acceptance criteria and project metrics. This will help manage and monitor
quality of the project to gain desired outcome at the Hilton, London. Project execution: This stage involves carrying out the details of the project plan in order
to provide the stakeholders deliverables of the project according to the pre-determined
deadline (Zheng and et. al., 2020). The three main elements of project execution are
following procedures, managing people and distribution information. In addition to this
project monitoring techniques are also used in this stage to ensure that the project is
continuing smoothly. My role as project manager in this stage of the Block chain
technology project is to assign clear responsibilities to team members, explaining rational
of the project to team members to increase their motivation and implementing course
corrective action upon experiencing a setback. The techniques used to monitor and
manage the Block chain technology project at Hilton are gathering regular project status
update, revising project schedule and communication plan and managing and tracking
decisions This will help determine various risks and challenges during during project
execution and manage various project activities to minimize such risks and gain desired
results.
 Project closure: This is the last stage of the project life-cycle in which the final
deliverables are transferred to relevant stakeholders and the documentation is signed off,
approved and achieved (Azizi and Haass, 2018). Apart from this, another element of
project closure stage is to asses and review success of the project so that projects is the
future are completed successfully. At my role as project manager at Hilton, London is to
formally transfer all deliverables, confirm project completion, release sources and
conduct post-implementation review of the project. The project evaluating techniques I
will be using in this stage of the project are metric for using block chain technology
progress at Hilton Hotel improvement in data management, data breaches prevented,
improved payments and elimination of overpricing invoices.

How at project completion you met the deadlines and achieved the benefits of, stage of aims and
objectives for your project.
Project is highly time sensitive and therefore meeting the deadline of the project was
highly important for my project to be successful (Clarke, 2018). By using my scheduling and
time management skills I was able to meet my deadlines of the project. If I was not able to meet
the deadline of the project timely than it could have failed my performance as a project project
supervisor and manager and also this would decrease the value of the project. Apart from all this
if the project deadlines are not meet then the budget would be overshoot. Thus, to met the
deadlines of the block-chain technology project I have utilized the two skills and strategies that
are discussed below:
Scheduling skills and technique: With the help of this skills I have divided my different tasks if
the project into the different small tasks for the ease and easy coordination. Through this
technique and skills I have developed a network diagram that clarifies the different roles and
responsibilities of the members involved in this project (Shaffer, 2020). I have also set the
duration compression that made me analyse the time that has passed and the time that is
remaining.
Time management skills: The time management skills are are highly useful for the project as
this helps me to stay focused towards my goals of the project and to meet the time limits. This
also helped during my planning stage as because of the time management skills I was able to
take quick decisions and also build the proper system and schedule to meet the task requirements
on the time specified (Burns, 2020).
Benefits of the stages of aims and objectives
These two stages are helpful in keeping the project members align towards there goals and
objectives. Also this help me as an project manager to keep the members actions and efforts
aligned towards the aims and target.

SWOT Analysis
Strengths: as the project supervisor of the block chain technology project I have analysed that
during the whole project my communication skills where the key strength. As I was able to

communicate effectively with the clients and team members of the project due to which there
was clarity of roles and responsibilities between the project members. This skill also helped my
project to remain in track as there was no miscommunication. This was also useful in
maintaining the harmony between the project team members (Lewis, Chen and Relan, 2018).
Weaknesses: the weakness that I observed during the whole block – chain project was the lack
of knowledge of technology of the block – chain. This weakness was very bad for the project as
due to this the planning of the project was very difficult and also the time to understand the
project advantages was consuming. The lack of technical knowledge is major drawback for me
during the project supervision and monitoring stage.
Opportunities: the major opportunity of this project to me was that I learned about the benefits
of the block – chain technology to the Hilton hotel and its management. Also the project
provides the major opportunity to the hotel in securing there payment systems and improving
there supply chain. This project has helped to enhance my overall management skills because to
manage the whole project at the different stages of project life cycle.
Threats: the threat of this project to my skills is that I will more restricted to one selective
criteria and won't be able to innovate in the same project. Also the failure of the project has huge
threat to my capabilities and to the finances and investment of the hotel into the project.
Porter's five force Analysis
Bargaining power of suppliers: the block – chain technology project has a high bargaining
power of the suppliers. Because the major resource required for the project is the block – chain
technology and suppliers of the this technology are limited an rare which increase their power of
bargaining. Due to this company has to pay whatever the suppliers demand. This factor is
unfavourable for the Hilton hotel as the high bargaining power of suppliers increases the
investment and cost of the project (Lu and et. al., 2019).
Bargaining power of buyers: the project has very low bargaining power of buyers. As the
buyer of the project is the Hilton hotel itself and in future there are possibilities that nay other
hospitality organisation may buy this project from the Hilton. But as the technology and project
is unique and rare this decrease the buying power if the buyer.
Competitive Rivalry: the competitive Rivalry is always the part and parcel for the project as the
project is to bring prosperity and productivity in the organisation. There are many other

hospitality organisation that are adapting this technology in there organisation. Therefore, there
is high competitive rivalry for this project of the Hilton Hotel.
Threat of New entrants: there is high threat of new entrants in the hospitality industry of the
UK and for this specific project there is huge threat of new entrants as with the growing
digitalization there is high risk of data theft and stealing. In order to protect this the different
organisation will try to enter with this project.
Threat of substitutes: the block chain technology project is one of the unique project in itself
and does-not have any substitutes. This factor has made the threat of substitute low for the
project because there is not such other technology that can beat the attributes of the this project
(Scott, 2020).

CONCLUSION
From the above report it is determined that completing a project in hospitality firms
requires involves completing various activities. Setting aims objectives and targets of the project
is the initial activity which helps understand the reason for existence of the project,. The project
life-cycle includes four stages and plays an important role in successful completion of the
project. The fours stage of the project life-cycle are imitation, planning, execution and closure.
Different management, monitoring and evaluation techniques are used throughout the project
life-cycle to ensure successful outcomes are gained from the project. Setting aims and objectives
is highly beneficial as it sets the direction of the project. In addition to this SWOT analysis and
Porter's five forces analysis are useful tools which help reflect on learning experience gained
from the workplace.
