INTRODUCTION
Academic skill are characterized as the abilities and the strategies that any person possess in
order to get success in the academics. These skill help students to find the best version of them.
In this report we are going to see the meaning of portfolio, the process of note making, reliable
and non reliable source of information for students and further we will see the meaning of
plagiarism and the presentation skills.
MAIN BODY
Meaning of portfolio and its importance.
The portfolio for the students refers to the compilations of all the professional documents
and the work sample in order to provide proof to the accomplishments. It can be in the physical
form or in electronic files Farrell, (2020). These are the things that are included in portfolio like
the CV, diplomas, reference letter, awards, certificates etc. A good portfolio enhances student
chance at the time of job as only good portfolio has the ability to make student stand from the
other applicants and put one ahead from others.
Meaning of note-making, what it should contain, and the importance of note-making.
Note-making is referred to the process of recording informations from various sources, it
just nor the process of writing down, but it includes the process of connecting, reviewing and
synthesizing the ideas and the teachings from the lectures or reading Vlieghe and Zamojski
(2021). The main purpose of the note making process is to encourage students active learning
and helps them to prepare collect important material for the exams. Making notes helps students
to
 Be able to engaged during the lectures, reading etc.
 Remembering the things that are being taught in the class.
 Organizing the ideas from different sources.
 Reviewing and revising before exams.
Good notes helps students in gaining good marks. Thus, the ideal note should contain following
things-
 The source of information.
 Key points and the new ideas.

 Bold headings to help students in identifying the key topics.
 Some triggers that make students in remembering things like students can add colourful
pens.
 The ideas to follow the notes later.
Reliable and non reliable source of information and how we identify them.
The source of information is referred to the different sources where information is
available for the students. These sources include the books, journals, social media, blogs, articles
etc. These contain both the reliable and the non reliable source of the information.
 Reliable source of the information includes that source of the information that comes
either from some author or from well-reasoned, theory, argument etc. this information is
based on the strong evidences. It includes books, articles, scholarly and peer- reviewed.
 However, the unreliable source of the information is that source of the information which
can not be trusted as these are not well- reasoned and the facts can be wrong. This
includes sources like the social media platforms, personal websites etc. and these
unreliable source do not contain the name of author Mansour, (2018).
How to identify that the information is reliable or not?
To identify that weather the information any students is getting is reliable or not he
should see the following things- Authority- it is important to know that the information students are getting is by
recognized author or if yes then how much creditability that author holds? Accuracy- comparing the author information that he has given in the past and seeing
whether the information provided was on contains facts or not. Coverage- Another important things is that to know that the information covered in the
topic is relevant or unnecessary.
 Constant up-gradation- the reliable source of the information must be the one that
evolves over the time as many fields requires constant up-gradation.

Meaning of Plagiarism and how to avoid it?
Plagiarism is presenting someone else's ideas and the work in the name of someone else
without their prior consent, and is done for getting the acknowledgement Awasthi, (2019).
Plagiarize meaning is to steal the information and pass to someone else in your own name.
How to avoid plagiarism-
 Don't copy the information instead try to describe things it in own words.
 Use variety a source to get access to more ideas and facts.
 Develop own style for giving easier and clear assignments.
 Trying to keep variety of quality notes to use it in exam.
What is referencing in APA style and what is In-text citation and its importance?
Referencing denotes the Author's ideas and beliefs that have been used while academic
writing. A feature of the academic writing is that it provides references to the information. Its
simple means acknowledging the work of authors in your writing Di Cosmo, Gruenpeter &
Zacchiroli, (2019). APA referencing style is published by the American Psychological
Association and is the author-date referencing system. An in text- citation means the
acknowledgement that students includes in text whenever they quote text or paraphrase a face.
The importance in text- citation is as follows-
 They provide credit to the person who is owner of the original source of the information.
 The proper citation helps to avoid the plagiarism,
 Proper citation also helps reader in verifying the information from the original source.
What do you mean by the presentation skills and what are main factors included in it.
Presentation skills are referred to the one's abilities that he should possess in order to
deliver the engaging, informative and compelling presentation to its audience. These skills help
students in innovating ideas and increasing student's interest in the topic. The main factors of
presentation skills are as follows-
 The presentation given by any individual should be full of enthusiasm and honesty as no
one likes to listen to the dull and boring person.

 The individual should be focused while delivering the presentation to engage and appeal
audience.
 The presentation must be in the simple form and should be of great quality as only great
quality content can relate with the audience.
 Body language is another factor that the person should possess as it will determine your
credible nature among the audience.
Conclusion-
We have been able to conclude from the report above that the good portfolio increase the
chances of students getting selected in any sector. We also discussed the meaning of plagiarism
and the ways to avoid it. Further, we are also able to address the importance of note-making,
presentation skills and referencing.
