Introduction
“Start with Why” by Simon Sinek is based on a powerful concept that educates
organizations and businesses as to what will succeed and what will not (Sinek,2011). The main
premise of the book is why is that some people and organizations are more successful and
influential than others while some are not. According to the author, all the powerful and
successful men and women, as well as organizations and businesses, started with why.
The key concepts outlined and covered in the book discuss Carrots and Sticks, The
Golden Circle, Clarity Discipline, Trust, Why but Know How, Listening, Competition, and
more. These concepts put forth powerful ideas like the quality of leadership and The Golden
Circle: Why, How, and What.
The key “a-ha’s” one gets out of the book is the focus on WHY and why it is essential
for lasting success. It is the Clarity, Discipline, and Consistency along with trusts behind the
WHY that prevents it from getting fuzzy and drive original success. The book teaches you that
those who start with WHY will never manipulate but will always inspire others and be successful
in whatever they do.
I would definitely read other works by this author as this book has certainly inspired me
and has forced me to ask the question Why. I look at things differently, and whenever I see a
business, I ask myself why they do it instead of wondering about what they do and how they do
it.
I would definitely recommend the book to others in the class as this book is not just for
big and small organizations and businesses but for anyone who wants to be successful in their

lives and inspire others. The author offers a clear vision of what it takes to inspire and be more
profitable than others and repeat success.
