Reflective Account of Team Working Experience

The report reflects on the author's contribution in a group task, presenting assigned problems and opinions of Enquiry's findings. The team went through stages of development, with each member playing different roles. The author played implementer, specialist, plant, coordinator, and team worker roles. Despite facing some issues, such as limited time and resources, the team worked cohesively, and the author acquired new learning and skills.

Reflective Account

An individual acquire new learning from all the events which occurred in the life whether
it is a personal or professional. Here, the report is going to reflect on my contribution in a group
task which was a presentation made on assigning problems and opinion of the Enquiry’s findings
on the case of Bristol Royal Infirmary. In the preparation of report, I adapted a group approach
and contributed my learnings, knowledge and attitude in completing the presentation.
This was a team task, hence, the behavior of individual was unavoidable and was going
to affect the success of the given task. Within our group task, it was firstly important that
member should know to each other. In the initial phases, I met my team member and started
learning about the opportunities and challenges while working in a team. In this stage I and my
team members were working independently and I was not clear on what I supposed to do.
Further, we have not discussed about the mission and how to compete the assignment provided
to us. However, individual team members were havening their own expertise area but everyone
was unaware with each other’s. It was like we all were unfamiliar to each other and were trying
to understand the behaviors. In this stages I started understanding the behaviors of my group
mates. In addition, I could say that after the first meeting, it was difficult for me to trust on my
team mates and I was unaware with their nature and behavior (Tuckman’s Team Development
Model. 2016). Nonetheless, we had a meeting where we decided the goal of our team, this was a
second stage of team development, in which I come with my ideas about how to complete the
task. In addition, I understood the behavior of other and their seriousness to work on the assigned
project. Here, in this second stage I and my team mates were communicated with the mission of
our task and agendas were displayed. After this, roles and responsibilities were articulated,
however, I noticed that problems solving was not working well and somewhere the other
members want to modify the ways to attain team’s mission. In noticed that all of the team
member were having good understanding among us which helped us in giving a chance to other
for coming with their idea. I also found some conflicts in the points of team members but we
were resolving it by giving new ideas to complete the task which was a good thing to develop an
effective team. In this stages, I experienced a little team spirit that was all good for us and
individual participated in meeting and provided good ideas (Tuckman’s Team Development
Model. 2016)..

Now the nest stage came across in which I supported my team in reinforcing team
behavior, facilitate the group for wins by creating positive environment. We has started
discussing upon each and every thing which is going to be done for completing our study. The
individual member of the team was agreed on roles and responsibilities and were understood
with team objectives. I experienced that we were carefully listening to each other. Here, in this
stages I started to spend time with my team members and our vision was to set a supportive
environment so we can attain the objectives. In addition, I experienced trust by honoring
commitments. Now the task came where we started working on to our roles and responsibilities,
I experienced that we all were highly motivated that was essential for attaining the success of
project. I contributed a lot by deferring to team needs and helping others in sorting out the
problems. I started collecting data and discussed each and every task with my group mates and
keep them, informed out the progress of my work. We have previously discussed about the roles
and responsibilities of individuals and main role of mine was to conduct a research (Tuckman’s
Team Development Model. 2016). My group had high pride and openness & support, however,
till the time we have developed high empathy and trust in everyone. I followed all the norms
decided by my team members on the basis mutual consent. In this stage, I evaluated my
performance and identified the commitment of other towards the task. I noticed that each and
individual members were completing their role within a team and shared rewards and successes.
The role of communication was experienced important in the stages as the task can also be
completed by having an effective communication between the team members. Many of the
times, I shared responsibilities with my team mates and delegated freely within the team. In this
way I have always tried to be support my group members and maintain team spirit. The last stage
occurs when we ended the task by completing the presentation, this was the stages where our
group was adjourned.
However, all the team members have their different roles in the team that was essential
to achieve maximum performance. In a team individual have their own style of working but
some extent it has to be matched with individual work. However, the style of work of a team
member comes from personality of the individual. Within the team, I played a role of
implementer where I put plans and ideas so as to easily execute the task. I experienced that my
analytical skills and practical approach was helpful successfully completing the task which was
assigned to me (Belbin's team roles. 2016). In the team, I played a role of specialist as I collected

range of knowledge on the assigned topic in addition I consulted gladly to team member and has
provided knowledge in which other group member were lacking behind with pleasure and ease
(Belbin Team Role Model Management. 2016). My contributions in the team was in providing
substantial knowledge and technical skills. In addition, I had a role of plant in the team as I
creatively think for innovative ideas through which we can complete the task assigned to us in a
team. Wherever, my team stuck in any situation, I was there to help them in solving complex
problems. During the task, I also played a role of Coordinator in the team as I have coordinated
with all the team member in relation of my task and to know about their progress. I helped team
members in understanding the process to carry out an investigation and looked after looks after
procedures and helped my group members to clarify intentions. In may task, I trusted each and
individual members and shared the information which was required. Throughout, the report, I
worked as a team worker in which I played a sensitive role in the team. I was helpful,
accommodating and focused and tried to positively handle all the situations while supporting all
the members of the team (Belbin Team Role Model Management. 2016.) The sense of
responsiveness and togetherness was the best thing which has supported me and my team
members in successfully completing the work. However, I experienced that team working was a
difficult task and I faced conflict and it was trouble taking decisions. However, I also played a
role of Monitor in which I have to play a sensible role and thoughtful and critical. I was always
focused towards analyzing situations and acting accordingly (Belbin's team roles. 2016).
Here, I can say that from the beginning I supported my team members and they were
very supportive. However, working in a team I have faced various issues during completion of
the presentation. The major issue of collecting the information and working on understanding of
individual’s response. Another major constraint faced by me was of limited availability of time,
resources, etc. In the beginning stages, there were many issue faced by me in interacting with my
team member and understating them, however, this research has helped in acquiring new
learning and skills and experiencing team working. In addition to that the report has enabled me
creating a deeper, more relevant understanding and evaluation of practice and developing
knowledge into the real scenario, Here, I have used my existing knowledge into real scenario
and my existing knowledge in increased as I acquired new learning from my group members. I
have experienced that my team has gone through stages of team developed in which each and
every time I noted my role within the team. However, I found the behavior of team members

was positive which has positively affected the success of the given task. Our team has worked in
a coordinated manner and we all have supported to each other, I have played different role in my
team and supported individual members. The preparation of the group presentation had provided
me a good experience of working in a team. It also helped me in acquiring new skills and
improving the existing ones. This group task has provided me a chance to put my existing
knowledge into real scenario through which I have gained huge knowledge and experience of
team working.
