Abstract
The British Heart foundation is one of the most successful charitable organizations in
United Kingdom with the purpose of reducing cardiovascular and circulatory diseases and its
threat. The company has various strengths such as reputation and industry collaboration along
with weaknesses such as ineffective marketing and stakeholder communication. There are also
opportunities such as usage of AI while consumer scepticism is a growing threats. Different
external factors such as political factors like taxation and economic factors like employment rate.
The firm also faces high competition because of high bargaining power of consumers and
suppliers along with high intensity of competition. It is recommended that the firm invests
technological upgrades to deal with such changes.

Introduction
Literature review is defined as an overview of the previously conducted work on a
specific topic. It plays important role as it helped in summarising as well as synthesising the
argument, as well as ideas of existing knowledge in a particular field (Oztemel and Gursev,
2020). The present report include discussion on British Heart Foundation. The present search
include literature review on the selected company challenges and obstacles that they have faced
along with appropriate actions policies that they have undertaken to accomplish those challenges.
In addition to this literature review analysis of the external and internal in competitive
environment of the selected business organization is also being included in present report. Along
with the development of solution to those challenges with their implementation is also being
conducted in the present research.
Presentation of data
British heart foundation was founded the year 1961 with the aim to eliminate any
cardiovascular and circulatory diseases from the world (What we do, 2022). The organization
conducts charitable programs and supports research in the field of cardiovascular and circulatory
diseases so that practical medical solutions for eliminating heart diseases can be determined. The
company also focuses on development of evidence based policies which can be used to support
government regulations and policies so that meaningful change regarding cardiovascular diseases
and circulatory diseases can be implemented.
The respective organization is doing important work because the problem of heart diseases
is increasing in the United Kingdom and across the world. Deaths because of heart diseases such
as heart stroke and heart failure have increased in the past three decades. This is alarming
because heart diseases are not only affecting older age individuals but also young age population
and children including infants (Brittan, 2020). It is important that voluntary organizations
increase awareness about this is that appropriate medical action can be taken to reduce the rise of
heart disease and the deaths caused by such disses across the world. The recent COVID-19
pandemic showcases that individuals who are affected by heart diseases are more prone to health
risk caused by pathogens and viruses. This means that action against cardiovascular and
circulatory diseases made by the British heart foundation is essential in increasing health of the
global population and reducing (Bromage and et. al., 2020).

Furthermore it has been analysed that the main aim of British heart foundation is to
provide benefactors satisfaction and support eradication of cardiovascular diseases from United
Kingdom by different kinds of charity work. Along with this it has been analysed that there are
number of elements in factors that are prevailing in internal and external business environment of
the selected organization which is creating challenges in front of them (Cannatà and et. al.,
2020). It is important for the respective organization to evaluate the business environment in
order to further implement strategies accordingly. For this mentioned below the external and
internal environmental analysis of the selected business is being done with the help of taking use
of appropriate methods.

SWOT analysis
This is an important tool used for analysis of the internal environment. The usage of
SWOT analysis helps individuals identify strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities
related to a specific organization. The SWOT analysis of the British heart foundation is
completed below:
Strengths
 The primary strength of the voluntary company is the long-sanding history of the
organization in the voluntary sector in the 60's supporting various charitable causes
helping the company accomplish its vision (Ford and et. al., 2018). Businesses firms with
decades of experience in specific sector specifically research field are able to provide
better results as they already have data and resources to attain their organizational
objectives. British heart foundation regularly collaborates with other organizations such as European
Heart Network and Healthy Air campaign to organize initiatives supporting efforts and
charity work for eradication of heart diseases (Working in partnership with others, 2022).
The capability to form industry wide collaborations and work with global institutions to
attain business objectives is strength for a company because it increases their ability to
have larger impact with combined knowledge and resources of different institutions.
Weaknesses

 The British Heat foundation has been accused with using shock tactics to increase
awareness for their charities (Gowland and Ban, 2021). The usage of shock tactics for
marketing has negative impact on the credibility, public trust and brand image of the
firm. This is primary weakness of the British heart foundation and can affect its global
reach. It is difficult foe investors and donors to get real time knowledge of the impact and
success of various research and charity efforts which is the primary weakness of the
company. It is important that stallholders of any business are communicated about the
impact of various business activities so tat they remain satisfied. Donors and investors are
important stakeholders for charitable organizations who need to be communicated regular
in order to retain them for a longer time period.
Opportunities
 As AI technology is becoming more sophisticate, the opportunities for investing new
medical procedures, techniques and solution for existing diseases is also increasing (Chan
and Zary, 2019). There is opportunity for the BHR to invest in researching the usage of
AI technology for facing with various cardiovascular and circulatory diseases. The Ice bucket challenge is one of the most famous and globally popular marketing
challenge which helped attract investment and donation efforts. Similar to this, the
respective organization can also adopt a suitable social media marketing strategy
attracting investment from various donors. Social media marketing is one of the easiest
ways of increasing reach of any organization.
Threats
 The primary threat faced by the British heart foundation is the rise of scepticism among
donors and consumers in relation to the usage of their donation. Consumers these days
require information about the usage and impact of their donation so that they are able to
trust a specific organization. This rise in scepticism can affect the donation received b
voluntary organizations.
 Many different charities in UK such as caner research UK are increasing their global
reach and impact (Heggie and et. al., 2021). This increases competition for BHF and is
threat to the success of the company. High competition need to be managed in order to
attract better donation in charitable organizations.

PESTEL Analysis
Political factors- It consist of trade restrictions, tax policy, government stability and many
others. In context of UK, their they are having less or no trade restrictions for the UK based
companies. Hence, this will help the BHF to reach globally and help patients to know about heart
diseases and how to cure with them. On the other hand, UK did not charge tax from charitable
trust because they are working for welfare of people (Hobson and Bakker, 2019). Hence, this
will further help BHF to expand their organisation.
Economic factors- IT consist of employment rate, GDP rate, cost of living, infrastructure and
many others. In context of UK, they are having good employment rate which is 75.6%
(Employment rate in the United Kingdom from April 1971 to April 2022, 2022). High
employment rate will help them to hire new and talented volunteers who will actively participate
in the performing the task of BHF for its success.
Social factors- It include cultural aspects, health and safety consciousness, population growth
rate and many others. In context of UK, their citizens are conscious about their health and they
trust the BHF. Therefore, a good investment from public will be collected by this charity because
they are working for health related diseases. They support this organisation and actively
participate in volunteering for the organisation.
Technological factors- Technology plays a important role in the growth of any organisation.
Hence, companies are suppose to use modern technology. In context of UK, they are well known
for their technological factors because they help different organisations to grow with their
modern and updated tools and machines (Nelson, 2018). Hence, BHF which is a research
charitable trust need various kinds of tools and machines to test and analyse the patients and UK
government help them to provide high quality of medical equipments.
Legal factors- It is essential for organisations to follow all the legal rules and regulations of the
country where they operate. In context of UK, they have established various employment laws
for the organisations operating in UK. These laws will help the companies to perform their task
effectively with full discipline without harming any individual. In context of UK, they are having
various laws for the safety of the employees. BHF is required to make sure that no volunteer or
any of their employee will get injured while performing their official work.
Environmental factors- It include the change in climate, terrain or any variations which may
affect charities services to deliver. In context of UK, the companies based in UK are required to

make sure that their environment will not get impacted bad by their organisational task. Hence,
BHF can protect their environment by choosing electric vehicle for their volunteers to conduct
their survey or campaigns related to awareness to general public for heart diseases (Wilson,
2018). This will help them to protect environment form harmful carbon emissions. In case of
climate change or heavy rain when volunteers are unable to go out and conduct their campaigns
then they conduct the same campaign through online mode.
Porter's Five forces analysis
This model is present in this report to analyse industrial forces interacting with the
company and driving change in the business firm. Porter's five forces model is used to analyse
the impact of competitive forces present in the industry of the company (Birru, Sudarmiatin and
Hermawan, 2022). The usage of this analysis not only provides the competitive forces affecting
the company but also helps in determining the power of these forces in shaping the overall
growth an probability of a specific company. The application of this model in context of British
Heart foundation is provided below: Intensity of competition: The level of competition in an industry is covered in this part of
the analytical model. In context of the British Heart foundation the competition is high
because of presence of many other charities such as Cancer research UK, Age UK,
Oxfam, Brandos etc (Yang, 2018) . Bargaining power of the consumer: This part of the analytical model refers to the ability
of consumers to influence the price of products (Wellner and Lakotta, 2020). In context
of British Heart foundation the bargaining power of consumer is high because of their
ability to select from different charities and local charities to support a medical cause. Bargaining Power of suppliers: This part of the model looks at the ability of suppliers to
influence price of products (Juliana and Nyoman, 2019). In case of the BHF, suppliers
are the voluntary workers, employees and researchers. These groups have high power of
the voluntary organizationals in the medical field because they are essential towards
attaining aim of the company. Threat of substitute: This element focuses on recognition of any substitute products for
the goods and services of the firm. In case of BHF there is no charity or voluntary firm
offering perfect substitute services because it is an experienced company in the voluntary
research field with wide range of resources.

 Threat of new entrants: This element of the model looks at understanding ability of new
entrants to disrupt the market (Irfan and et. al., 2019). In case of the respective firm the
threat of entrants is low because the medical voluntary sector requires high amount of
financial investment to open a successful firm. There are also legal barriers in the
voluntary industry.
Discussion
The BHF needs to ensure that its capabilities are improved for handling the modern
threats of high competition and scepticism. Change management can be used by businesses to
adopt new strategies and improve organizational culpabilities in the changing world. It is also
recommended to the company that it improves its technological capabilities to improve research
in the medical field. Medical technology advancement is being use across the world to create
suitable solutions for various diseases.
