Question 1. List one piece of legislation, one regulation and one code of practice that relate
to environmental issues in this workplace. Explain the compliance requirements of each (50 –

Answer: One of the laws which the Pompom Hotels has to adhere to is Environment
Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 or the EPBC Act. The law mentions
that commercial companies operating in Australia to ensure that they do not operate in ways
which are likely to have negative impacts on the environment of the country, especially in
areas of environmental importance. The companies like the Pompom Hotels should ensure
that their operations do not endanger ‘eight matters of national environmental significance
protected by the EPBC Act’ which include world heritage sites, national heritage spots and
the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The act further mandates even the local governments
would be required to take approval from the central government, if their acts are likely to
intervene with the EPBC Act. The act further mentions that business organisations should
plan and design their projects in order to minimise impact on the environment. The act
ultimately mentions that the breach of the EPBC Act amounts to criminal and civil offences.
The act even empowers the society and communities to approach the court to seek injunction
to stop an ongoing project if they perceive the same is hampering the environment

should aim adopt the strategy of selling wastes like bottles and cans which would generate
revenue for the hotel.

Answer: The management of an organisation should identify the changes which have to be
embraced in order to comply the external market changes. Then the management should hold
meetings with the departmental heads to educate them to changes in current policies which
have to be adopted and the necessity of the adopting the changes. The third step which would
be adopted would that the departmental heads would educate the subordinate employees
reporting to them about the changes which they have to adopt. The departmental heads
should recognize the new skills which the employees would be required to develop to
embrace the changes. They apex management in collaboration with the departmental heads
and the HR department hold training sessions for the employees. The employees feeling
insecure and resisting the changes would be provided with counselling and mentoring
sessions to elevate their fears. The apex management bodies should then integrate the
changed policies with the organizational culture of the organisations concerned (Cameron
and Green 2015).
b) List five stakeholders you could seek input from when setting objectives and targets. For
