Purpose
In this assessment, you will be required to conduct research and analysis to develop an operational plan. Once
you have consulted your team, negotiated variations and made amendments, you will then seek approval from
your plan. You will then implement and monitor the operational plan to ensure objectives are met.
This Assessment Tool assesses your ability to develop an operational plan for a simulated organisation –
Champions’ Sports Bar.
Location
For this assessment, you will be working as the Manager for a simulated organisation- Champion’s Sports Bar.
Most of Part A can be completed in class or prior to class as it involves you undertaking research and developing
policies and procedures. You will be required to undertake a roleplay in task A3, where you will consult with the
team to finalise the plan. In Part B, you will complete a series of tasks to implement and monitor the plan. Part C
will require you to evaluate results and implement changes, adjustments, and feedback you receive.
These must be completed in the classroom or other area that simulates a hospitality environment. Your assessor
will advise where the practical will take place.

It is September the 1st 20XX and you are the newly promoted Manager of Champion’s Sports Bar
which forms part of the Marino Complex. You oversee the bar and the restaurant, and you have
two assistant managers who report to you:

 Janice Granger (Restaurant/Kitchen)
Both of your assistant managers are in charge of their respective areas and they manage the day-
to-day operations of the Bar and Restaurant. They are in charge of all the ordering, rostering, and
customer service practices. Your role is to manage and assist them, to ensure everything runs

will inform the requirements of your operational plan.

As we found that for carrying out the plan successfully there is need to enhance

5. Task A3 – present and negotiate the operational plan
You must now meet with your team (Bryan Davies and Janice Granger) to present the
operational plan you developed and to negotiate KPIs, strategies and actions. The HR specialist,
Alex Maple, will also attending the meeting for support and to contribute to the discussion. Alex
will have specialist advice to provide you with for determining HR requirements and the best
recruitment approach to use. You will use the Operational Plan you developed in A1 to structure
your meeting.
Your assessor will observe your role play and will assess you using the observation checklist on
the next page. Review the observation checklist before completing your role play to ensure you
understand what your assessor will be looking for. Details of your role plays are as follows:

Subject Updating the operational plan.
The plan which was made above to introduce something new at the
organization in order to boost up its sales and also hiking customer
experience but as it was found that there were a few discrepancies
so making changes in them becomes essential.
The first change was to introduce new food items. Such as western
and local dishes along with following schedule.

I have reviewed the amended operational plan. While I can appreciate the targets and KPIs you and the team
have set, I have been crunching the numbers and think a 25% sales increase will be a better target. I think it is

The customer satisfaction KPI of 85% remains unchanged as the is a companywide directive. Of course, we aim
for 80% of total sales as our profit margin – you do not need to include this in your plan as finance will populate
these figures based on all of our planned and fixed costs.
