3. Instructions: Part A – Develop an operational plan
It is September the 1st 20XX and you are the newly promoted Manager of Champion’s Sports Bar
which forms part of the Marino Complex. You oversee the bar and the restaurant, and you have
two assistant managers who report to you:
Bryan Davies (Bar)
Janice Granger (Restaurant/Kitchen)
Both of your assistant managers are in charge of their respective areas and they manage the day-
to-day operations of the Bar and Restaurant. They are in charge of all the ordering, rostering, and
customer service practices. Your role is to manage and assist them, to ensure everything runs
smoothly. Your Manager has sent you the email below:
From: Aarav.Kaur@championssportsbar.com.au
Subject: Operational plan – QTR. 2
Attachment: Last year’s performance data.xls; Operations plan template.doc
Good afternoon
As you are aware, Quarter 2 is fast approaching and I will need you to develop an operation plan for your areas.
You will need to devise appropriate strategies, KPIs and activities to ensure we meet our targets. As a starting
point, below are the targets we are aiming for.
Target
Total sales 20% on last year
Bar sales 20% on last year
Restaurant sales 20% on last year
Customer satisfaction 85%
Customer count 15% on last year
Current # Bar staff 30
Current # Kitchen 25
I have attached last year’s performance data which you can use to set your KPIs and our standard operational plan
template. You will need to research and review internal information, as well as any other sources you deem
appropriate. We have a top-secret cocktail and cheese bread we plan to launch in December, so please look into
the IP requirements for that – we do not want our competitors to know the recipes!
Once you have developed the plan, please meet with your assistant managers to negotiate the details of the plan.
It is crucial that everyone understands and agrees to plan, as this will underpin our focus for the quarter.
Once complete, please send to me for final review and approval.
Regards
