What is a Workplace Journal?
The Workplace Journal is where your qualification meets your workplace. It is where we take key concepts and ideas
from a unit of competency and help create connections between content and your everyday job role.
The Workplace Journal includes:
1. Reflection – DO THIS FIRST! Done at the start of and again at the end of the process, this is where we
encourage you to really think about the content of the unit and how it will fit into your work/life after
this program.
2. Supplementary Revision Questions – DO THIS AFTER YOU COMPLETE YOUR WORKBOOK. These
questions focus on the link between the unit’s content and your workplace.
3. Third Party Report – THIS CAN BE SIGNED OFF AT ANYTIME. This is where a Supervisor or Manager uses
their own experience and knowledge of industry standards to analyse your ability to apply the content of
this unit to your current job role.
4. Feedback – DO THIS AFTER YOU COMPLETE ALL OF YOUR ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS. As a Training
Organisation we value the feedback from our Students and clients and see it as an integral part of our
continuous improvement process.
5. Assessment Submission Declaration – DO THIS AFTER YOU COMPLETE ALL OF YOUR ASSESSMENT
REQUIREMENTS. This needs to be completed and signed when submitting your complete assessments.
What are the requirements for assessment?
When a Student has chosen the training delivery pathway (meaning they have not at first indicated they wish to seek
RPL) Ballistic Training Solutions use a range of assessment tools to allow a student to demonstrate competence. This
enables a confident assessment decision, which indicates a student is able to demonstrate the required skills,
knowledge and essential evidence consistently and over time.
Ballistic Training Solutions use the following assessment tools alongside this Workplace Journal all of which must be
completed and submitted together. It is best to complete these in the order listed below. These can be found in your
workbook.
Theory Assessment: Knowledge Based Assessment Activities
Student Assessment Workbook Activities comprising of short answer, multiple choice, definition and/or
comprehension based questions. In general, these activities relate to the pages in the student resource materials.
Case Study Assessment: Case Study Review & Assessment Activities
Found throughout the Student Assessment Workbook, these case studies relate to specific unit of competency
knowledge application requirements. They may also bring together multiple ideas/concepts together in your
detailed review and response.
Project Assessment: Project Workplace Assessment Activities
Found at the end of the Student Assessment Workbook, the Project(s) are designed to enable holistic assessment of
the unit of competency and they bring together many concepts and ask you to apply them to various situations.
Responses to the above three assessment strategies might be drawn from:
the theory/information contained in this resource
additional reading and research
practical experience
Workplace Journal
This is also a form of assessment, please complete as per ‘What is a Workplace Journal’. In judging evidence, the
trainer/assessor must ensure that what you provide is:
authentic the candidate’s own work

You are welcome to complete your work in whatever format you are comfortable with, for example:
Complete the questions by hand directly in the workbook. Remember if you do this, you should still keep a
copy of your work when you choose to submit it. Workbooks are not returned when submitted.
Complete the questions electronically in a word document. Remember to always save a copy somewhere
safe
You may submit your work by:
- Hand it directly to your Trainer at your next session. This must be recorded on a Training Contact Record

When do I find out my result?
Because our Trainer/Assessors are always training, it normally takes around ten working days for you to hear back
about your result. Formal notification will be sent from our Head Office when you have been deemed Competent. It
is important to remember that this is competency based training, this means there is no ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ and no
grading system. If your Trainer/Assessor believes your responses are not quite at the standard that we need, they
will simply let you know what we need and you are given further opportunity to submit more information.
What if I am unhappy with the outcome of my assessment?
If you are unhappy with the feedback given to you by your Trainer/Assessor you have the right to appeal that
decision. You can do this directly with your Trainer/Assessor or you can contact the Training Manager (their details
are located in your Student Handbook). You can also contact our Head Office:
Ballistic Training Solutions Pty Ltd
PO Box 7502
SIPPY DOWNS QLD 4556
