The present report is based on personality development planning and its role in an
individual’s life in identifying and setting goals and objectives towards their growth and
development in professional career or even career in one’s university. There no denying the
fact that professional development can be ensured and career development path can be
adopted only when an individual’s personality supports (Mitina, 2019). Personality support
can be obtained if one has learnt enough skills and knowledge that led to the overall
personality development and accordingly professional development of an individual. So, in
this report value of goals of an individual personality which are having different time horizon
ranging from short to medium to long term has been explained and at last value of personality
development plan that is creates in one’s life and render many personality and professional
development has been explained. First of all an explanation of personality and professional
development will be done.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
Personality development can be obtained and ensure through those activities which are meant
for developing an individual’s abilities, skills and knowledge, potentiality and overall
improvement in the quality of life. It is not a one-time activity rather it involves lifelong
process and procedures which includes setting up of time to time objectives and goals and
ensuring that the same should be achieved within a specified time frame in order to enhance
individual’s potentiality (Beijaard and Meijer, 2017). There are five areas that need to be
considered while evaluating an individual’s personality such as mental, physical, social,
emotional and spiritual. Some points that need to be considered by an individual who is
striving for personality development that is, time management ability, level of emotional
intelligence, active listening, developing a positive mindset, showing resilience in a cultivate
manner, building new learning habits and improving ability to speak in a public place. These
all skills, knowledge, abilities and habits if gets included in an individual’s personality than it
leads to overall development of personality.
On the other hand, professional development is another important concept which
involves students learning process and procedures towards development of skills and
knowledge which aids in their career development and setting up better future by satisfying
needs in a desired manner (Mitina, 2019). It revolves around individual’s learning and ability
earning more and more through better professional career. Professional development can be

ensured through obtaining quality and higher level training to learn more professional skills,
obtaining degree certification and an education that leads to provision of better opportunities
in career. It involves those resources and tools or sessions of training that aids in further
improvement in the knowledge of different subject matter or areas. The aims of personal
development is to learn new things and skills to grow one’s personality in order to secure
higher growth in professional career which ultimately leads to professional development in an
individual’s life.
3. Description and discussion of the value of short term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Short term goals can be defined as something that is needed to be achieved by an individual
in the very near future or very short time period is available for their achievement. It is
restricted largely to the period of one year and not more during which the attainment of these
goals become necessary (Carey and et.al., 2020). In other words something that is needed to
be accomplish soon is included in the category of short term goals. Short term goals often lay
down a defined and clear path for an individual’s success which makes it easier to lay
emphasize on one things or aspect at a time. Such a special focus over the achievement of a
near goals allows not just for higher level of motivation but also leads to higher level of
productivity of an individual with a desire to accomplish such short duration goals. Short
term goal setting helps in professional aspirations achievement and thus leads to the
enhancement of job satisfaction as a whole. Something greater with a strong base can be
achieved through setting short term goal. In fact, short terms goals are generally meant for
achieving some long term goals. Successful achievement of short term goals allows for or
aids in the accomplishment of long term goals (Uetake and Yang, 2017). When long term
goals are split into various parts that needs to be achieve in various stages or steps, then the
same can be possible through meeting short term goals and objectives and thus allows for
meeting long term goals and reaching at a top in a step by step manner. And closeness to the
long term goals can be ensured through successful accomplishment of short term goals.
Personality development goals can also be short duration and by setting short term goals
only, one can reach at a desired level by learning new knowledge and skills which
subsequently helps in attaining professional or career goals and thus along with personality
development, professional development can also be attained and ensured. So, it can be said
