Task 1
The project management methodologies that could be related in context to contemporary
global projects are being discussed as follows:
1. Agile Methodology – This methodology is recognized as one of the most recognizable
kind of project management methodology. The methodology is thus considered as highly
suitable for such kind of projects, which are incremental and iterative in nature (Getto 2015).
Based on using this methodology, agile methodology follows a certain process in which the
made demands and the proposed solutions would continuously evolve through the main effort of
self-organizing of many cross-functional teams along with the customers.
Advantages – The advantages of using Agile within contemporary global projects are:
a. A continuous attention is put on good design and high form of technical excellence.
The project manager continuously evolve their techniques to incorporate the best methods.
b. Change in circumstances would help diverse teams to adapt accordingly (Cooper
2016).
c. Late kind of changes within the requirements could be accommodated.
Disadvantages – The disadvantages of using Agile within contemporary global projects
are:
a. Certain lacks in documentation and designing could be faced during continuous
updates.
Document Page
3BUCKS STUDENT’S UNION MUSIC FESTIVAL
b. Senior management is only involved during making critical decisions during critical
states.
c. Project following this methodology could get off the track if any of the requirements
specified by customer would not be integrated.
2. Waterfall Methodology – The Waterfall methodology is considered as the most
traditional mode of conduction project management activities. The methodology follows a
sequential and linear design approach in which the progress of tasks occurs in one direction. The
methodology was primarily been used in construction and manufacturing industries (Quist 2015).
Due to the structured form of physical environments and lack of flexibility approaches during
changes in design, the methodology incurs more expenses towards projects.
Advantages – The advantages of using the methodology in projects are:
a. Each phase should be properly completed before progressing to the next steps of the
project.
b. The methodology is primarily used for smaller projects in which the requirements
would be well-defined.
c. Elaborate documentation would be required at every phase of the concerned project.
Disadvantages - The disadvantages of using the methodology in projects are:’
a. Any errors made could only be fixed during that particular phase.
b. The methodology is not suitable for complex projects in which there are constant
changes in requirements (Krusche and Bruegge 2017).

c. Valuable feedbacks from clients could not be included during ongoing phase of project
development.
3. Scrum Methodology – This methodology can be defined as one in which the
proposing of processes and principles are made for the purpose of improving project delivery.
This methodology is however most used in software development projects incorporated in
different technological companies. The goal of using Scrum methodology is based on improving
teamwork, speed and communication (Lei et al. 2017). The primary goal of Scrum is to
collaborate, develop, deliver and future sustainability of different complex projects through the
processes of accountability, collaboration and iterative methods of progress.
Advantages – The advantages of using Scrum are considered as:
a. The methodology could help project teams for completion of project deliverables in a
quick and efficient manner.
b. Large and complex projects are further sub-divided into sprints.
c. The methodology helps in supporting towards fast moving projects.
Disadvantages – The disadvantages of using Scrum are:
a. There are high chances of project failure in case of non-cooperation and non-
commitment from individuals within the project.
b. The methodology could only be supported and used by experienced team members.
c. Unless there would be an aggressive testing process, the quality of the project could
not be maintained (Darwish and Megahed 2016).

The tasks, which are being highlighted in red are considered as critical activities within
the project. Each of the activities would need to be completed in proper order as outlined within
the Network diagram (Wu et al. 2015). The expected total project time is 119 days as has thus
been outlined within the Network Diagram.
The shortest possible time in which the project would be completed is 118 days. The
shortest path is determined by calculating the most obvious choices of the shortest duration from
any two paths.

Task 4
The five different types of risks that could approach towards the project have been discussed in the following table. The table
would also discuss on the ways in which strategies could be further be developed for dealing and mitigating them accordingly:
Risks Likelihoo

Impact Risk Owner Proposed Risk Mitigation Action
A proper methodology might not be
chosen in the initial phase thus
leading to poor progress over the
project. The project manager might
not have consulted with the top
management before the project start
thus resulting in negative outcomes
during the project duration
(Cagliano, Grimaldi and Rafele
2015).
Medium High Project Manager,
Sabbatical
Officer, Senior
Management
team, Production
Manager
The project manager should hold a meeting with
the other internal stakeholders based on forming a
plan for the progress over the project works. The
project manager should also conduct a brief
research over the different aspects in relation to
the discussed methodologies and then decide over
the most popular methodology, which could
provide them with higher future returns.
The project might not be completed
within the proper estimated
schedule as defined within the
project management plan. This
could lead to delays in the start of
the event. This could thus
considered as a major risk towards
the project.

Manager
The project manager should monitor over the
activities being performed during the project.
They should ensure that each of the works
occurring within the project is being completed
according to the proposed plan. Hence, they need
to work closely with all departments across the
project and ensure that each of the works are
being completed in proper time (Schinko,
Mechler and Hochrainer-Stigler 2017).

might get escalated at any stage.
This may result due to rise in the
prices of materials, which are being
procured. Changes in market prices
might form a huge negative impact
over the project works thus
affecting the entire project.

a proper kind of budgetary estimation before the
commencement over the project. Moreover, an
additional budget should be set apart, which could
help the project teams in case certain other steps
would incur a high cost and which might not have
been estimated previously.
Some items that were needed to be
procured might run out of stock and
hence these items might not be
available at the moment. This could
lead to negative outcomes as the
project might get delayed.
Low Medium Procurement
Manager
The procurement manager should work closely
with the suppliers and prepare a list of items that
needs to be procured in proper time. Moreover,
this list should be updated as per the purchases
are being made.
Power failures or sudden shutdown
of electric supply might hamper to
the event. The reputation of the
event might be put at stake with
such kind of negligence within the
project management aspects.
Medium Medium Procurement
Manager
There should be a certain proper backup facility
from the electric service provider. The
procurement manager should arrange the best
service provider who would arrange the backup
power facility in cases such situations would arise
during the event phase.
