Purpose of this Assessment task
This assessment task is designed to test your skills in building and sustaining an innovative work
environment as required by the unit BSBINN502 Build and sustain an innovative work environment. Your
trainer/assessor will be assessing your work and provide you with constructive feedback on Canvas. This
task will assess your skills to:
 Lead innovation by example
 Establish work practices that support innovation
 Promote innovation
 Create a physical environment which supports innovation
 Provide learning opportunities.
In this assessment you will analyse the provided simulated scenario, undertake research in the topics
presented, conduct 1 presentation to demonstrate your skills and provide report to your Trainer. By
successfully completing this Report you will provide the required performance evidence of your
competence in building and sustaining an innovative work environment.
What are you required to do to undertake this Case Study?
You should carefully read the provided documents of Bounce Fitness and undertake all questions. The
task includes: (i) Analysing the case (ii) Undertaking required research (iii) Presentation and (iv)
Reporting.
To successfully undertake this assessment, you should be doing the following:
 Read the provided scenario and Bounce Fitness additional Resources couple of times and
understand its requirements
 Clarify the requirements with your trainer and assessor, if you are not sure
 Research appropriate websites as directed by your trainer/assessor
 Self-reflect and practice the presentation before you record it and upload them on Canvas
 Discuss with your trainer/assessor the contents of the report you will be presenting.
Context and conditions of undertaking the tasks?
The prescribed tasks will be undertaken by you after carefully analysing the scenario. Your
trainer/assessor will provide you a context to present the scenario. Your trainer will also provide you
guidance on the websites to be researched. Your trainer/assessor may also set certain conditions under
which you will perform the tasks required by this assessment. For example, your trainer may set a time
limit to perform a task or, ask you to repeat a task or, ask you to give additional information about the
performance by asking you some verbal questions or, they may prescribe you some new conditions to
undertake certain tasks.
Given your personal conditions, your trainer/assessor should also be able to make some reasonable
adjustments in undertaking the tasks of this assessment. You should check with your trainer/assessor
about the conditions under which the tasks should be completed, and the possible adjustment they can

What specific WHS requirements may be involved?
This assessment will require you to be aware of the standard Workplace Health and Safety requirements
e.g. Workplace Health and Safety Act and Workplace Health and Safety Legislation Your trainer/assessor
will advise you on these and other legislative requirements.
Tasks and frequency of performance
Details of the tasks to be undertaken in this assessment are provided in this document. The tasks listed in
that document must be performed at least once. The presentation question in Part D should involve at
least 2 team members.
Getting Started
The assessment may be re-attempted on two further occasions (maximum three attempts in total). All
assessments must be resubmitted 3 days within receiving your unsatisfactory grade. You must clearly
indicate “Re-submission” on your resubmitted work.
You must complete all questions unassisted by the assessor or other personnel but may refer to
reference material as may be needed. All questions must be answered satisfactorily for the assessment to
be completed satisfactorily.
For any assessment conducted that is incomplete, or without satisfactory performance, the assessment
will need to be completed again after further training support. This may be simply to focus on question
areas not achieved in the prior assessment.

access the documents that you require on Canvas page for Task 2. You may need to conduct
further research.
Part A – Reflection – Lead innovation
This part requires you to examine your effect on a team’s innovation; specifically, how you
have lead innovation through your personal example. In order to assess this, you will be
required to write a personal reflection of the way in which you have established procedures
and practices to foster innovation through your work including:
 Collaborative work arrangements
 Building team capacity to contribute to innovation
 Providing formal and informal learning opportunities
 Evaluating ideas
 Celebration and promotion of innovation
 Consultation
 Respectful communications and sharing of ideas and feedback.
Your personal reflection should be approximately 1,500 words long and must include concrete
examples of each of the factors listed above.
 Collaborative work arrangements: Leading a team is always a challenge and to maintain
innovative within a team is also difficult. As a leader of our team, it was one of my main and
primary responsibility was to led innovation within team members. So that all the team
members can work and collaborate with each other in order to develop innovative products
and services. In order to foster innovation and work on every team member for development
of an innovative team I tried to develop a step- by- step procedure so that so that innovation
can be led and an innovative and positive organizational culture can be identified. First of all I
tried to build collaborative working arrangements and for this communication was the most
important factor. in order to led innovation within my team members by opening all the lines
of communication between by team members so that each and every employee can feel free to
communicate with each other, speak up their ideas, openly provide their feedback. It open
communication further resulted in collaborative working as all the team members felt free to
communicate and collaborate with each other. This directly helped me in motivating team
members so that they can provide their ideas and suggestion so that a creative and innovative
idea can be identified and worked upon. I personally feel that communication is one of the

most important and primary keys towards development of an innovative team and develop a
culture of innovation. Not only this, I focus upon encouraging all of my team members to
provide their constructive feedback so that any kind of issue or problem can be identified as
soon as possible. Open communication not only helped in enhancing collaborative working
but also resulted in creation of a creative atmosphere which aspire others so that they can give
their best. And further helped me in leveraging overall strength of the team members.
 Building team capacity to contribute to innovation: After focusing upon collaborative working
arrangements, I tried to focus upon building team capability to contribute to innovation. I had
divided all the task among team members as per their strengths and weakness. Main motive of
dividing sub task among team members was to make all the team members understand that they
all are responsible for innovation. This further helped every team member in understand their
roles and responsibilities so that they can give their best for development of innovative solution.
Then in order to achieve final goal, I focus upon motivating all the team members to work upon
final goal rather than focusing upon problems or issues. This directly helped me in developing a
problem- solving procedure though which problem can be resolved. In order to enhance overall
capability of all team members, I tried reencourage team members to focus upon all kinds of
ideas. There were no wrong answers but weird answers and I encouraged all the team members to
encourage weird answers so that any kind of creative solution can be identified.
 Formal and informal learning opportunity: In order to led innovation within team members it is
important to provide learning opportunities to all the team members. I tried to provide all kind of
learning opportunities to team members whether they were formal and informal learning
opportunity. For formal learning opportunities I tried to arrange training for team members,
conducted seminars for team members so that they can enhance their knowledge, skills and
qualities and give their best for the same. For informal learning I used to provide different task to
team members to work upon so that they can research about the same and use their current
knowledge and skills, observe others and complete task five to them. Both the type of formal and
informal learning helped me in enhancing overall performance of the members. It not only helped
me in building team capability but it further helped in enhancing overall awareness of team
members about current market trend, topics, issues, new technologies and many more. This
provision of formal and informal learning opportunities further improved basic soft skills of team
members, encouraged them to work on the project by giving their best as it further opened
opportunities for them for growing within their career and achieve their both long and short terms
career goals.
 Evaluating ideas: But for leading innovation within team, I faced major difficulty in evaluating
ideas. It was important to evaluate ideas because ideas are main building base of successful

innovation and if it not focused upon then it can become a failure and demotivate team members.
But mostly it was difficult to make team members understand important of evaluating ideas
because most of the employees though that innovation is about developing creative ideas but in
fact, it is about identifying ideas that can help in providing competitive advantage to the
organization. So, in order to evaluate ideas I developed a step by step process of evaluating ideas.
First of all I had focused upon involving all the team members in identifying idea which is most
likely to succeed. This helped me in making every team member feel wanted and had importance
within the team. After identifying ideas that can succeed, I had focused upon contacting experts in
the field so that they can evaluate complexity of the idea, things that can go wrong and ways in
which that idea can be worked on. When idea is evaluated by the experts, I used to contact middle
management staff who can present the idea in front of senior management, financial team so that
they can confirm whether that idea should be worked on or not, when that idea can be started
working on and overall financial budget within which that idea was required to be completed.
After approval finally resources required for the idea were also identified so that it can be worked
upon in an appropriate manner. This whole process helped me in evaluating and identifying which
idea is worth and can be worked on. Mostly for evaluation I used SWOT analysis were strengths,
weakness, opportunity and threat of idea can be evaluated.
 Celebration and promotion of innovation: Whenever my team members successfully achieved a
goal and objective pre- defined earlier, we used to celebrate so that every team member feel
encouraged and worth working for team. I used to promote creative or innovate idea identified
within team by providing a proper reason So that all the team members feel encouraged and work
together for providing much better ideas. For promoting innovative ideas, I used to conduct
brainstorming session every month. It helped in encouraging every team member so that they can
give much higher level of suggestions.
 Consultation: Many times, I also focused upon motivating every team member so that they can
focus upon conducting survey by consulting customers or consumers for identifying demand of
innovative product. Not only this, it consulted every team member as well about need of
innovative product, ways in which innovative product or service can help organization in fulfilling
need. Want and desire of their clients and customers. I personally felt that consultation weas one
of the major steps that helped in leading innovation within team members. I used to consult every
team member of my Bounce Fitness Centre Cairns whether the innovative idea we are working on
is correct or wrong. Consultation not only helped me in getting view point of others but it further
helped me in gaining idea of what everyone thought, how every one was contributing in leading
innovation within team and how determined every member of team were to achieve final foals and
objectives. Consultation also worked in strengthening overall collaboration of every team

member. For example: consolation with every team members in this current project helped me in
understand that there were few team embers who did not feel a part of team and were not giving
their best due to which border on others were increasing.
 Respectful communications and sharing of ideas and feedback: I think that in order to led
innovation within team one need to put much efforts on team innovation by focusing upon
respectful communication, motivating others to provide their viewpoint or feedback so that issues
can be identified and resolved and new ideas can be generated. For example, in order to enhance
communication within team every week I used to conduct team meeting were every members was
free to provide their feedback on current work, their views or ideas if they want to provide. I used
to conduct one on one session with every team member so that if they are facing any kind or
problems or difficulties it can be identified. I had also provided my persona email id to every
member so that they can contact me whenever they wanted to. every members was encouraged to
provide feedback none of them were criticised. In fact they were motivated and thanked for
providing their feedback.

Part B – Practical – Develop innovation
This part requires you to establish work practices that support innovation. In order to
accomplish this, you must provide examples of conditions, procedures and arrangements
that you would create in the Bounce Fitness Centre Cairns that encourage innovation in the
workplace. You should also provide evidence for building and leading teams in innovative
ways. These could include:
 Minutes of Meetings;
 Examples of working arrangements such as flexible time or other relevant
arrangements that you have set;
 Procedures and policies that involve innovation;
 Practices that encourage innovation;
 Team building documents.
At least two (2) pieces of evidence is required. For the evidence that you are providing,
ensure that you write down exactly what it is demonstrating, and how the change increased
innovation at Bounce Fitness.

The primary objective is to increase the bounce fitness presence and market share under
specific corporate strategy, positioning which is always appeals to its market segments.
Afterwards, it will meet the bounce fitness which may consider as strategic marketing
objectives. On the basis of evidence, it has been focused on the working arrangement in
order to provide the better flexibility and time for employee so that they can fulfil all
essential need or requirement of consumers, who are really want to take fitness services
from bounce fitness. In case bounce fitness has been acquired more information about
the need or requirement of client so that it would be encouraging the innovation in the
different procedures, policies and other kind of practices which always encouraging the
innovation.
In context of innovation, Bounce Fitness enterprise have been created more inclusive
workplace policies and implementing the innovation to diverse enterprise. Sometimes, it
would be conducting the comprehensive evaluation at workplace. Innovation policies and
procedures provide the facilities in workplace diversity which may create a new idea in
current fitness system. Furthermore, it allows individual people to take off work.
Bounce Fitness have been implementing different kind of practices that will encourage
innovation. It involves cultural innovation among employee, rewards and create
opportunities. These are not only promoting the practices in context of innovation but it
also supports for inspiring or motivating towards innovative operation within Bounce
fitness.

that each and every individual people can take their suggestion or advice from
implementing “information recording system”. In this type of innovation will support for
demonstrating to build a physical environment innovation while recording all kind of

Basically, Bounce Fitness has been implementing as information recording system as
