LSC/UoS BA: COP26 Glasgow and Building a Sustainable Organisation

This report critically analyzes the COP26 summit in Glasgow and its focus on carbon emission reduction. INTRODUCTION
Today’s environment is getting destroyed every day because of many manmade
hazardous activities (Bombiak and Marciniuk-Kluska, 2019). Due to this, climate is changing
every day which is really bad for the survival of life. It is really important for understanding
the impact and remedy of climate change as it increases day by day. In this context, European
Union is focusing on reducing the carbon effects so that they are able to reduce the
fluctuations in climate change. This is necessary to understand by each and every person in
the society that they need to contribute in this mission equally as then only European Union is
able to achieve their target. In this regard, COP is conducting as a meeting that includes many
countries since 1992. It is found to be the most important summit for the actions related to
climate change. This report will be covered a critical analysis of this summit and related
material.
MAIN BODY
Climate change is defined as the process in which a long term change will be occurs
in the average weather pattern of Earth. It is found to be bad for our planet as it provides a
direct or indirect impact on the survival of human beings. There are many negative effects are
found from climate change such as increasing in temperatures, storms, drought, global
warming, losing of species, poverty and displacement (Moayerian, McGehee and Stephenson
Jr, 2022). These are some effects which reduce the standard of living and creating problems
for people and government. This is the main reason that COP26 was conducted in Glasgow,
Scotland, United Kingdom. It is found to be the most important summit that also known as
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference. This summit was started from 31
October and ends it up on 13 November 2021. This summit is already delay by a year due to
COVID-19. It is focusing on mitigating the climate changes in environment so that they can
reduce the upcoming negative impacts on living beings. It becomes a necessity for the human
beings to contribute in these types of summit. This summit is found to be crucial in the view
point of human beings. In this summit, approximate 197 countries was participating which
comes on a conclusion as a new deal known as Glasgow climate pact. This Pact is aiming at
staving off dangerous climate change. For the success of this agreement, approximately 40
countries are providing financial assistance such as Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy, and

France. These are the main finance providers of European Union which are actively
participating in this sustainable project.
European Union is found to be one of the countries which are concentrating on carbon
reductions so that they are able to achieve their sustainable goals and objectives (Chillakuri
and Mogili, 2018). Currently, European Union is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030.
This aim is found to be tough for European Union as they understand the impact of climate
change. European Union formulated policies regional as well as national level and they are
increasing their efforts for the purpose of mitigating and adapting climate change. Their
climate policy is found to be based on UN Convention on Climate Change, the
supplementary Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement. It is identified that European Union
is committed to reduce greenhouse emissions by 2030 as compared to 1990 levels. It is also
found that this commitment is also made by European Union in Paris agreement to the
secretariat of UN convention on climate change. In addition to this, European Union has
objective that they become the first climate neutral continent by 2050. For that purpose, they
already did many efforts such as they published European Green Deal with set outs for the
purpose of achieving planet neutrality. In July 2021, European commission was published a
large package of proposal for the purpose of energy and climate legislation. The reason is
seeking to implement target of reducing emissions by at least 55% till 2030. Currently
European Union unveil sweeping climate change plan. In the span they are announced a raft
of climate change proposals which is mainly focusing on reducing the carbon and becoming
carbon neutral by 2050. There are dozens of draft proposals need to approve by European
Union parliament and other 27 member states. Some important proposals include tax on
aviation fuel which is really helpful for reducing carbon and encouraging low carbon
alternatives, tightening emission limits for cars, requirement for countries to renovate
buildings for making energy efficient. These are the important steps that taken by European
Union in order to reduce carbon emissions. Their 2030 Climate Target plan is focusing on
making more cost effective path in order to achieve carbon neutrality. European Union is also
producing and supplying green jobs and tracking the record of cutting greenhouse gas
emissions (Fennelly and Perry, 2020). In addition to this, they are also encouraging
international partners so that they are motivating in order to increase ambition to limit the rise
in global temperature to 1.5°C. These are the ways that are using by European Union in order
to achieve the goals and objectives.

CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the above report that climate change is becoming an
important subject which needs to be prioritised by countries. Climate change is not good for
environment as it increases carbon emissions and global warming. For that purpose, a summit
was conducted in Scotland, UK that named is COP26. It was the summit which found to be
important in order to reduce the carbon emissions and also found the ways which are helpful
in mitigating climate change. Climate change is becoming a serious issue for society. It is
necessary to take right step so that all the possible upcoming negative impacts can be
reduced.
