Q
No Answer Reason or Explanation
1i Suitable
There are a number of factors to be determined when considering
wind classification of a building, these factors include terrain,
height, topography and shielding classification. For Mr and Mrs
Walks plan, we will consider the height of the building. Wind
classification is suitable for this design because it has a height of
5175mm which is within the permissible limit of 8500mm as
given in AS 4055, it therefore means it shall apply to this
standard in accordance to wind classification as specified in
clause 1.4.2
Ii Suitable
In compliance to AS 1684.4, Residential timber framed
construction as specified in clause 1.4.3, it states that the plan of
a building will essentially be partly L-shaped and rectangular
which is within the flexible limits for timber-framed
construction
Iii Single and two storey
In compliance to AS 1684.4, Residential timber framed
construction as specified in clause 1.4.4 for timber construction.
Depending on the timber strength, it can only support the
maximum load of a two story building according to AS 1684.4
Iv Suitable
In compliance to AS 1684.4, Residential timber framed
construction as specified in clause 1.4.5 which states that the
maximum width of the house should not be in excess of 16m
excluding eaves. Seemingly, Mr and Mrs Walks house complies
with this clause since it has a width of 11870mm which is
within the permissible limit of 16000mm
V Suitable
In compliance to AS 1684.4, Residential timber framed
construction as specified in clause 1.4.6 that explains about wall
height of timber construction. The wall height from floor to
ceiling is 2450mm which is within the permissible limit of
3000mm as stated in AS 1684.4
Vi Suitable
In compliance to AS 1684.4, Residential timber framed
construction, as specified in clause 1.47 the hanging rafter for
timber framed construction shall be 750mm, however, in our
case the rafter is 450mm which is certainly within the
permissible limit.

Building and Construction 4
Vii Suitable
In compliance to AS 1684.4, Residential timber framed
construction as specified in clause 1.4.8 on roof pitch. The roof
type shall be hip which is the same case with our house and the
roof pitch is 20 which is within the maximum limit of 30
according to AS 1684.4
2 Yes
The site has such topography that is able to support the structure,
the floor span is also within the maximum span for timber floor
construction, hence within the deflection limits
3 450mm
4 300mm. Reference from the BCA
5 No requirement for filling Suspended floor can be employed in the construction, hence pad
foundation can be used for construction.
6
50kPa,
Controlled fill is where a tested
material imported to the site or
found on site is placed in layers
of 150mm, the moisture content is
regulated by adding water using a
compaction equipment
A rolled fill is an embankment of
the earth or rocks where the
material is placed in layers and
compacted using rolling
equipment. KPa is a unit for
measuring pressure. Allowable
bearing pressure is the maximum
stress that can be applied on a
foundation such that it is able to
withstand the shear failures.
7 Diagrams 3.2.5.4
In compliance with the BCA, an external wall should be non-
combustible and if made of a combustible material then it should
be in accordance with certain fire hazard properties so as to be
treated as an attachment.
8 A DPC is a barrier that prevents
moisture from penetrating
through a structure by capillary
