INTRODUCTION
Assessment I
Rapid and ongoing changes in an environment have made it imperative for each business firm to
review, revise and redesign the strategies that help the company to meet its long term and short
term goals. Business firms, non-profit associations, government institutions or even education
institutes all can adopt the way of strategic management to achieve their goals and objectives.
Strategic management can be defined as the process of developing business objectives, analysing
the actions of the competitors on the basis of external environment, reviewing internal
environment of the company, evaluating strategies and ensuring that these strategies are
implemented within the organisation. In other words, it is the overall management of the
resources of an organisation with the aim of achieving its mission and vision (Sacharny and
Henderson, 2019). Therefore, Strategic management provides a guidance to the business
enterprise as it helps in developing plans and policies to achieve specified objective along with
allocation of resources for better implementation of the plans. Present report is on the strategic
management of HSBC Holdings Plc is one of the leading bank in Europe, which is a British
Multinational Investment and financial services Bank. HSBC is comprised of four business
groups such as Retail banking and wealth management, global banking and market, commercial
banking and global private banking. HSBC was incorporated in the year 1866 followed by its
first branch in Shanghai in the year 1865. The report cover business case of HSBC including
SWOT analysis to identify its core strengths and competencies, issue and challenges faced by the
company at national and international level and lastly we will highlight the innovation, internal
and external environment and its influence over HSBC including positive and negative aspect.

In March 1865, HSBC emerged out with simple idea of local bank catering to the
international needs, and opened its door for business in Shanghai, Hong Kong, with the aim of
financing the trade between Europe and Asia. Currently, HSBC is one of the largest banking and
financial service organisation in the globe, serving to more than 40 million customer since 150
years and counting. HSBC has its presence in more than 64 countries across Europe, Asia,
