I work in a manufacturing organization as a marketing manager where a decision was being
taken to develop company intranet which would help in developing the communication process
between the internal stakeholders so as to increase the effectiveness.
The decision which was being taken followed the six steps of business decision making and
involved various activities. In the beginning of the meetings the CEO of the company presented
various performance and periodical financial report and highlighted difference between intended
and actual result and asked to identify root cause behind such problems. This activity aligns with
the first step of the decision making process. As opined by Zamani, Maeen & Haghparast (2017)
after presenting the results the CEO in consultation with managers of all departments started
analysing the cause of under-performance and it was revealed that main cause was lack in
internal communication in organization at various levels. This activity aligns with second step of
decision making process. After the identification of problem, the focus of meeting was diverted
towards development of a range of solutions in order to fix. Various solutions were identified in
form of development of company application, intranet, using bulletin boards and carrying out
frequent meetings. This activity aligns with third step of business decision making process. After
various alternatives were developed, next discussion which was followed in meeting was
selection of desired alternatives and after detailed analysis and discussion it was found out that
the ideal solution to solve current issue is to develop company intranet as it fits into
organizational budget and requirement. This activity aligns with the fourth step of business
decision making process. After finalizing solution, the organization focused on implementing it
by hiring a team of IT experts who would develop intranet based on requirement of company and
necessary training would be provided to employees so that they do not face problem in adapting.
This activity aligns with fifth step of business decision making process. According to Gregg
Learning (2017) after implementation of feedback managers of organization should start to
collect feedbacks for evaluation of performance of company intranet and various benefits
associated with it and also for identification of any issues faced in system. The feedback and
evaluation would be collected and analysed to determine success of solution which would be
implemented. This activity aligns with sixth step of business decision making process.

The recommendation which can be provided to enhance meeting result is to organize an
interaction session with all employees at all levels so as to support them in understanding reason
for change and benefits which are associated so that it becomes easy for them to embrace change
which would help in successfully meeting goals and objectives of business.
As stated by Andrews (2014) decision making process of organization did not follow four steps
of ethical decision making as during course of meeting the organization did not collected facts
which were important for ethical issues and it also did not identified various legal and regulatory
requirements that were needed to be followed while selecting particular alternative. The decision
process also did not involved identifying individuals and groups which had a stake in issue and
therefore it can be stated that decision making process did not followed the four steps.
