Introduction
Business Collaboration is a practice of individuals working together, having a common goal to
achieve towards the business benefit. Walmart has collaborated with other business using "Direct
Farm Program and Empowering Women Together program", these programs have enabled
Walmart to offer products online successfully (Loomis, 2018). These are products which mostly
ware used to be sold at local market. In this report, more information on how Wal-Mart managed
to create strong collaboration with small local businesses and the benefits will be discussed.
Main bases for business collaboration and the impacts between the Walmart and other small
business will be discussed.
Factors that influence Walmart to form a collaboration business
Access to resources
When Walmart and Walmart foundation started in the year 2015, had no or few resources to
operate in the market. Walmart initiated a program which involves training small-scale farmers
and women on how to invest and get income from their produce. Finally, the trained individual
form different countries in Asia and America they end becoming the main suppliers of Walmart
stock (Kirkpatrick, Pederson & White, 2018). Walmart accessed the resources from farmers
produce and take home products and pieces of jewelry from Women groups and sell them online.
Walmart and Walmart Foundation with collaboration with other NGO's like United State Agency
for International Development (USAID) and Techno Serve group funded to offer free training to
the individuals thus coming up with quality and standard products in the by the name Walmart’s
products.

Shared risk
The collaboration has resulted in the risk sharing between the Walmart, small-scale farmers, and
Women Group Foundations. This is facilitated through sharing production cost and other risks in
the market. This was enhanced by Walmart creating dedicated suppliers team which made a
partnership with non-governmental and government organizations. This allows Walmart to work
on suppliers from small and medium scale farmers and the transformed changes were felt in the
market. This resulted in the improved livelihood of farmers and reduce the level of risk for
Walmart related to other retailers (Clairmont, Hoare & Deslauriers, 2018).
Efficiency
Walmart at the start was aiming to offers products and services all over the whole world. The
collaboration of Walmart with other organizations like United State Agency for International
Development (USAID), Techno Serve group, small and medium scale farmers, women groups
and other third-party partners has contributed a lot in achieving efficiency in Walmart services.
For example, designing and launching e-commerce platform was initiated by women
empowerment group. This facilitated to overcome the demand barriers of the women enterprises
and enabled Walmart to penetrate in Asia, Africa, and America through women products
available. This enabled Walmart and other parties to have efficient operations in supply and
logistics (Drew & Thomas, 2018).
Coordination and seamlessness
The coordination was very high since each group had to focus on the business benefits.
Coordination was important to produce a positive result. This clearly was witnessed when out
one million farmers and 5,000 women are trained over the world the coordinated well and final
becomes mains Walmart suppliers. They are the existence of effective coordination between all

parties since Walmart coordinates with the farmers and women group for production and ensure
the successful delivery of products to the customers Andrade (Rojas, Solis & Zhu, 2018).
NGO’s and other organizations Techno Serve group cooperated well in offering educational
training to individuals in which Walmart was not able alone. With coordination, everything was
successful at a greater percentage.
Learning
Through collaboration, each part involved learning in one way or the other. For example, farmers
and women groups learned how to perform their work in a better way than before and produce
quality products. Walmart was able to learn the market trends because of having regular
suppliers, therefore, change of demand in the market. After women get money from their work,
they learned how to take their families including children (Daniel, Vitória & Pita, 2018).
The moral imperative
These are good results to happen as a result of good collaboration. Walmart, small and medium
scale farmers all collaborated aiming to achieve something good in the future. Walmart succeeds
from local markets and expanded the operations to the e-commerce platform which internal
market (Gao, Schøtt, Sun & Liu, 2018). The women group and small-scale farmers the now they
have an adequate market where they can supply their products nonstop since are they in
agreement with Walmart.
Impacts of the Walmart Collaboration
Performing business activities have both direct and indirect impacts on the environment and on
the parties involved in the business. The collaboration of Walmart with other organization has

the following impacts in the present world. According to the Smith & Crawford (2019) the
following are the impacts.
- Farmer model and Women empowering model was developed which assisted in
eliminating intermediaries within the chain. This improves the production and shipping
standards of the products between the producer and the Walmart.
- Direct farming has enabled some farmers to become long-term suppliers to Walmart,
therefore, improving their economic status. Also, this promoted them to access global
supply chain.
- Engaging new partners. This helps Walmart to success accessing individual and train
them perfectly. This has improved the lives of some individual to cross the poverty line.
In the year 2011 and 2015, 4000 farmers resulted to have improved life.
- Exploring a new source of funding. Walmart acted as a source of fund to the farmers and
women's group activities. Also, USAID was available proving support where is needed
like supporting in the training programs.
- Only through collaboration enabled Walmart to achieve global responsibilities in the
market. Impacts are many due to this collaboration exercise performed by Walmart and
other parties.

Conclusion
Collaboration is a good idea to perform by the businesses which are aiming to expand in
future. Collaboration should be based on the main factors like accessing resources, to
share risk, improve efficiency, and coordinate and seamlessness the activities, learn from
each other and have the moral imperative. Any party inside the collaboration should be
ready to face both negative and positive impacts as a result of the action of being
together.
