INTRODUCTION
Business communication is one of integral part of the organization that effectively
contributes in the sharing the knowledge and information with the others for collaborative
working in order to achieve the desirable goals and objectives (Bondi and Yu, 2019). it is very
much important for the organization to adopt the directed chain of communication in which
every individual can give one of their best efforts in organisational development and
enhancement. Respective report is based on the case study in issues arises due to the
communication gap. To overcome from the communication gap organization need to analyse the
purpose and principles of differ forms of communication. Further it includes the principles of
effective communication to enhance practices. finally, it includes the communication practices
for themselves and others.
PART 1 (POSTER)
Notes:
Millions of people from different parts of the world visit London during summers and make
use of tube system to travel within the city which has increased the tension between the Tourists
and the Londoners using tube system to travel to work and come home.
Some of the major barriers of effective communication between Londoners and Tourists
traveling in the tubes can be related with the conditions inside the tubes. The temperature at this
point is very high which makes people angry and influences their rude behaviours. Physical
barriers such as high temperature and overcrowded tubes which results into behaviours such as
pushing each other to get seats, smelly compartments and very limited space and ventilation
(Ceapa, Smith and Capra, 2012). Tube system is being used by Londoners to reach their

workplaces and are usually in a rush while Tourists usually walk slowly and are under no rush
which results into pushing behaviours and atiitudinal barriers in effective communication.
Language barriers between different Tourists and Londoners also create an impediment to
effective communication and management in tubes. Different customs and cultural differences
also act as barriers to effective communication within the tubes because people have different
habits as a result of their customs and beliefs such as eating inside the tube, loudly speaking
etcetera which creates disturbance for the other passangers on the tube.
To overcome the different barriers to the communication on tubes, some of the strategies
which are being mentioned below needs to be followed. For example, the barrier with respect to
high temparature and angry people can be managed with the help of improving the effectiveness
of the air conditioning system inside the tubes which helps people to stay calm. Number of trains
can be increased to reduce and mitigate the problem of overcrowding and no space inside the
tubes (Green, 2019). Air freshner products can be used inside the tube to avoid smelly problems.
Policies such as no eating allowed inside the tubes can be of vital importance to manage the
crowd inside the tube. Separate routes can be started for Londoners who are getting late for their
workplace and are in a rush and Tourists can be encouraged to provide support by willingly
taking up other less busy routes and fares can be rationalised. Moreover, people need to be taught
to remain more tolerant and patient and take efforts to accommodate other passangers and reduce
the problems with the tubes.
It is important to acknowledege and respect the individual culture of the tourists and behave
in a manner appropriate to different cultures as Tourists from different backgrounds and cultures
travel using the tubes. For example, loudness of the voice should be checked, appropriate
distance should be maintained, letting other people go before you, taking care of the tone and
language which is being used for communicating with respect to cultures etcetera are some of the
measures essential for increasig cultural awareness and improving the overall efficiency and
effectiveness of communication system within the tubes.

Principles of effective communication:
Principles of effective communication are guidelines which must be followed by a sender to
ensure that the information or the message is being conveyed to the receiver in an effective
manner (Thompson, 2018). Principles of communication can be applied by the transport manager
for United Kingdom to ensure that the barriers of communication are mitigates and the message
is being properly conveyed. Some of the most important principles of effective communication
are being discussed as follows:
Principle of Clarity:
As per this principle, the message which is to be communicated should be drafted using
clear words or language which leads to no ambiguity in the message. Having a clear idea of what
needs to be communicated helps in application of principle of clarity by the transport manager of
United Kingdom.
Principle of Attention:
As per the principle of attention for effective communication, it is imperative to draw the
attention of the receiver to the message which is being exchanged. People have different values,
behaviours and beliefs which makes it necessary to adopt a measure which can help in gathering
attention of the people for the transport manager of UK to exchange information in the most
effective manner.
Principle of Feedback:
There should be a provision which helps to get information about the understanding of
the receiver and ensure that whether the message is being clearly interpreted by the receiver.
Feedback mechanism is essential for effectively communicating.
Principle of Informality:
Informal communication techniques and strategies need to be adopted to ensure that
honest feedbacks about the message which is being conveyed is obtained.
Principle of Consistency:
It is important for the transport manager of UK to apply the principle of consistency for
effective communication which implies the need to have communication which is in consistency
with the earlier strategies, policies and programs of the establishment. The message which is
being conveyed should not be conflicting with the policies and procedures of the institution.
Principle of Timeliness:
7
Document Page
This principle implies that communication should take place at the proper time and any
delay in communication is expected to affect the overall effectiveness of the message which is
being exchanged or communicated (Vitturi, Tramarin and Seno, 2013).
Principle of Adequacy:
Principle of adequacy for effective communication implies that the information which is
being communicated or transmitted in the message should be adequate and complete. Inadequate
information leads to vagueness and confusion in the minds of receiver which hinders the
complete process.
Recommendations:
On the basis of the above principles of effective communication, it has been recommended
and has been advised to the transport manager of UK that the message which is being conveyed
should be clear and formed using simple words and languages. It is also advised that information
which is being conveyed should be adequate and contain important details such as helpline
numbers etcetera. Also, it is important to understand and acknowledge the cultural and
background differences to further enhance the effectiveness of communication (Oetzel, 2017).
With the application of above principles of effective communication, it can be ensured that the
barriers of effective communication for the transport manager of UK are mitigated and
minimised effectively.
