Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to understand the importance of learning assessment and personality
assessment in the personal and professional life of an individual. Moreover, this paper will also
reflect how the results of the tests to improve professional skills of an individual.
Main context
Learning style assessments are developed to understand the learning styles of a student. Different
students prefer to learn the same thing in a different way. There are different types of learning
assessment tools, like VARK, Index of Learning styles etc. VARK is the acronym for Visual,
Aural, Read or Write and Kinesthetic styles of learning (Barkley & Major, 2015). It is an online
tool filled with questions, developed to evaluate how the student will prefer to learn their
subjects. It is used to promote the concept of effective learning in a classroom setting. However,
there are some disadvantages to this model as it does not provide any information about the
motivation of the student. Another online learning assessment tool is Index of Learning Styles
assessment. It focuses on the four domains of learning styles, which are active and reflective,
sensing and intuitive, visual or verbal and sequential and global. Active learners learn new
information by actively participating in the activity and they are more successful to work in
teams (Index of Learning Styles. 2018). On the other hand, reflective learners prefer to be alone
and think about the said activity. Sensing learners tend to learn about the practical and concrete
facts, while intuitive learners are more open to explore new possibilities. Visual learners use
diagrams, figures and demonstrations to effectively learn new things, while verbal learners prefer
written and spoken instructions in order to understand something. Sequential learners prefer to
learn something logically and methodically, while the global learners tend to understand the
topic in leaps and bounds without applying any logic.
According to my index of learning styles result, I am an active and sensing learner. I prefer to
learn a new thing in steps and applying logic (Morey, 2015). I slightly prefer teachers who
clearly gives verbal instructions with respect to the teachers who use visual aids to convey the
information. I agree with the results of this study and my strengths have helped me to cope with
any difficult situation. An active learner prefers to work in groups to understand and solve any
problems. As an active learner, I prefer to try things out before giving it much consideration.

Oral communication is much preferred by me to convey information and instructions to my team
members, rather than visual aids. I tend to learn new things methodically and logically rather
than understanding it in leaps and bounds. These strengths will help me to deal with any
uncomfortable situation both in my professional and personal life. However, there are some
disadvantages associated with my learning style. Participating in an activity without giving it
much thought can cause disturbances in my professional life. In order to make critical decisions,
one must critically reflect the available information and consider all the options. It can help the

organization to prevent any unfortunate events and loss of financial capital. Sensing learners
have the tendency to find a connection between the information available to them.
Problem-solving skills of a person can be increased by developing their intuitive skills and their
capability to assess the available information. Intuition will help the person to look for
innovative ways to solve the problem and sensing will allow them to use concrete data and facts
to recover from the problem. A greater amount of information can be conveyed with the use of
both visual aids and oral communication. In the professional world, effective communication is
vital to carry out the business performance of the organization. Effective communication can be
achieved with the help of explaining the things clearly and using diagrams, flowcharts for better
transmission of the information. A sequential learner will increase the level of their
understanding methodically and follow logic to understand the situation. In professional life,
sequential learners tend to be more successful as they follow every instruction step-by-step to
achieve the business goals of the organization. The results of this test have helped me to identify
my strengths and weaknesses of my preferred learning style. Using the results, one can improve
their skills to adapt to the situations that do not meet the demands of their personal domains of
learning style. A person can work to increase their strengths and reduce their weaknesses to
effectively manage their personal and professional life.
A positivity ratio is defined as an exact ratio between positive and negative emotions, which is
used to differentiate successful and unsuccessful people. Positivity is defined as a characteristic
of a person, who accepts both the positive and negative aspects of the world. A 3-to-1 ratio of
positive to negative emotions is defined as a standard to determine whether a person is
flourishing in their life or they are languishing (Barbara Fredrickson: The Positivity Ratio, 2018).
This ratio considers a wide range of emotions of human psychology, both positive and negative.
According to this ratio, a person needs at least three heartfelt positive emotions to balance
against one negative emotion of the person. Expression of negative emotions in moments of
difficulty is considered to be a necessary part of achieving success in their personal and
professional life. Appreciation, kindness, openness, sincerity, and curiosity are some of the
examples of positive emotions. Openness allows a person to appreciate the small good things
happening to them in their present rather than living in the past and thinking about the future.
Anger, sadness, stress are some of the examples of negative emotions felt by individuals on a
daily basis. Tracking the emotional diet of a person will achieve them to achieve their well-being
goals and promote positivity.
The positivity test is designed to evaluate the biases of an individual towards the positive or
negative situation (PositivityRatio.com – Home, 2018). The nature of this test is dynamic and the
results change on a daily basis depending on the type of situation encountered. This test must be
conducted over a week to successfully evaluate the results of this test. A majority of Americans
are unable to achieve the standard of a 3-to-1 ratio, thus proving there is a lot of areas for
improvement. My average positivity score also falls short of this ratio, 2.90. I can use this
information to improve my weak areas and manage stress in my personal as well As professional
life. This will help me to develop a suitable plan according to the situation and monitor my
mood. The Occupational Information Network provides information and assists students to
decide with their career decisions (O*NET Interest Profiler at My Next Move, 2018). Many
organizations like restaurants use this test to accurately develop job descriptions available in the
company. It also helps the organizations to develop specific training materials according to the
interests of the candidates. The results from the interest profiler reveal that I am a social person

and can work in any social and conventional situation. It also shows that I can appreciate artistic
thoughts of others and develop my own artistic thought to increase my performance within the
organization. These organizations use this information for the efficient and effective
management of their human resources.
