Introduction
Business communication is described as sharing of the information or convey
significant message between individuals within an organization as it help the business in
bringing commercial advantages for the organizations. Business communications is all about
that how the organization share their information in most effective manner so that their
services or product to its existing and potential customer (Aksom, 2021) A good
communication is very vital ability to promote a business success. The considered
organization in this report is University of Greenwich on which basis this report will cover
the theories related to the organizational communications, evaluation of the barriers that
prevent the students from returning to campus. Along with this, it will also discuss about few
strategies that the institution has implemented to overcome such barriers.
Theories of the organizational communication
The organizational theory is mainly concerned with the relationship between an
organization and its environment, the impact of those relationship on the organizational
function and how the organization affect distribution of the privilege within the society. In
context of the University of Greenwich, there are few organizational theories which are
mentioned below:
General system, theory- Ludwig von Bertalanffly has originated this theory in 1937,
but after it has extended by Erwin Laszlo and Talcott. To develop this theory, Ludwig
has sought to the account for an interrelationship within the world-wide around him
and for viewing this world in a holistic way. This theory provide a natural avenue to
investigate the organizational function and relationship as it views an organization as
a system composed of different subsystem whose interdependent and interlocking
parts are held together by the communications. General system theory postulated that

and irrationally, but also with the purpose to protect the common employees from
abuse of power by those in upper echelons of structure. In relation to University of
Greenwich, university has found this theory most efficient as it make their work more
easy in convincing the student to join the campus again. University’s staff performs
this job in most efficient way under the supervision of higher authority in hierarchy.
Institution has delegated the responsibility to its staff and effort to bring the students

Acceptance theory of the authority- Cherster Barnard haS founded this theory in
1938. This theory state that manager’s authority of their subordinate mainly depends
on subordinate’s willingness to accept manager’s right to give any order and comply
them (Laaksonen and Lambotte, 2022). In relation to University of Greenwich, this
theory significantly follow up the traditional top down management approach, then it
also embrace more contemporary philosophy of management which acknowledge
need to provide the subordinates with clear explanation of the institutional policies
and other initiatives.
Barriers preventing the students from returning to campus
In COVID 19, the educational institutional were closed for a certain time period. But
after COVID many student were not ready to come back in campus. They were avoiding
visiting the campus due to various reasons. In relation to University of Greenwich, there are
certain barriers faced by the students. Few of these barriers are mentioned below:

Greenwich afraid that if they came in contact with other student or person, then they
will also suffer from this virus. In this situation they prefer to maintain a social
distancing. Thus this structural obstacle prevents the student to return to campus.
Organizational barriers- These barriers are related to the organizational rules policy,
structure and facilities. In relation to University of Greenwich, this is another barrier
that leads an ineffective communication and creates a distance between institution and
students as resulting it restrict students to join the campus. Another reason is that
university has no proper information bout the government guidelines which may
create a problem for student after sometime. This is another major barrier that
influence students not o return their campus.
Psychological barrier- This barrier is related to thinking and attitude of individual. it
is due to the emotional character and mental limitation of the human beings (Landers

communication between students and university as students are suffering from an
anxiety due to COVID 19 that may be very distracted about how will they returning
the campus.
Financial barriers- As due to COID 19, many people lost their job, many students
also doing a part time job to continue their study but they had also lost their job. In
this situation it becomes difficult for them to join the campus again (Mustapha,

therefore, various education institutions like University of Greenwich has taken few steps so
that students get ready to attend the class again. For this university has also formulate certain
rules and guidelines under which the risk of virus can be reduced. Hence, such strategies help
the universities to overcome form the issues of different barriers that restrict the students to
return their campus. By this, student has started to focus their study again effectively or
efficiently.
