Introduction
Business communication is a communication between two or more parties to promote a product
or service, to handle operations or to provide any formal information to the fellow mates. It is an
essential part of any business because it helps the organization to share ideas and
recommendations on any matter. It helps business to communicate with its stakeholders whether
internal or external. Communication at workplace can be done through meetings, notices, emails,
event management, advertising and many more methods. It helps in providing clear guidance and
reduces errors in the operations of business (Köffer, 2015).
Human communication has progressed over last few years which is because of the advances in
technology and increasing acceptance and learning among people. There might be many barriers
in the communication but this is been resolved time to time by the organizations and new
technologies and methods are used for making communication more effective (Baruah, 2012).
This assignment is a proposal for understanding the importance of digital communication and
resource analysis. The assignment will be discussed by taking example of the worldwide known
organization Unilever. Unilever has created a platform for its employees to share their ideas,
comments or solutions for the survey data collected by the company. The employees are also
encouraged to share their insights on the data. This new platform has attracted the interest of
many people and also minimized the time taken for the analysis of the whole data. This proposal
will focus on the digital resource analysis on the basis of the assignment 1. It will focus on
boosting the workplace motivation by using various innovative tools of communication by using
various sources
Background
The assignment 1 was based on the ideas and methods to boost workplace morale by using
various innovative communication methods. Few articles were analyzed which shared the
implications of using social media and digital technology in business and how different
organizations have benefitted through it. It discussed how the sharing of information improves
and empowers the employees. Social communication gives them a boost to take more powerful
and rapid decisions at the workplace. The management can use variety of social media tools so
that it fills out the gap among people working in same organization and helps in building good

relationship between them which ultimately builds up healthy working environment and better
productivity at the workplace (White , 2012).
To make it more effective, Unilever develops an internal social collaboration tool named as
Chatter which brings many leaders and managers face to face to share their views about future
vision and strategy for the company. Unilever is a giant which employs thousands of employees.
To bring them together is very difficult but the digital resources help them to come together from
different geographical locations and share their strategies, ideas and knowledge. It makes
communication more transparent and helps the organization to come up with the plans which is
been suggested by their own employees only. It helps in easy implementation of the plans and
better results (Huang, Lin & Villarreal, 2014).
Context
Unilever is a multinational Fast moving consumer goods company and is best known for its
quality products and services. The company provides products to more than 2.5 billion people
and believws in changing the world together with people. The company has to communicate
with its customers which is done through advertising and marketing. The company makes good
use of its websites and social media top attract more number of people and to make them aware
about the new products and innovations of the business. The company uses all forms of social
media digital sources for advertising and direct marketing (Unilever, 2018). The company have
multi- stakeholder approach in which it engages shareholders, government, customers,
employees, environment and every other stakeholder. It helps it in leveraging its digital models
and assist in bringing the changes.
Unilever believes that the digital platforms are very important because most of the users are
nowadays spending time on internet. The company is engaging more and more in digital space
and operating in the competitive market. It builds up a sense of community and integration of
different thought processes and mindsets which helps in building better workplace environment
and better reputation in the market too. It has to take care of the trust and faith of the employees
and other stakeholders for the long run profits of the business (Udegbe, Udegbe, Ogundipe,
Ganiyat & Rashdidat, 2012).

Proposal
Companies nowadays are spending a huge amount on their digital communication channels. The
organizations are adopting people centric approach for ensuring the satisfaction of the ultimate
consumer. A big percentage of population uses Internet nowadays to gather information,
entertainment and for many other uses. It is definitely no doubt a faster way of communication
(Khan & Khan, 2012). This is a proposal which shows the context of the topic chosen for the
report. The report will discuss about the digital tools for communication and how it boosts
morale of the employees at the workplace. The report will discuss in detail about the effective set
of tools for communication and about the hype and reality of social media
The report will also discuss that why people are more prone towards social media and how it is
connected with motivation of employees. It will involve the role of social media at the workplace
and how it brings up the employees together which nourishes their overall relationship. The
impact of digital technology on different generations and how it proposes creative idea
implementation will also be discussed.
Recommendations will be provided in the end of the report and it will be providing a clear
understanding on the research skills and effective communication methods. The use and
importance of technology will also be evaluated. In conclusion, it can be understood that the
report will provide a comprehensive understanding of the use of digital sources and social media
at the workplace and critical analysis of the same.
