The general theories of communication that can be applied by various organisations, institutes and government organisations are Formal Communication and informal communication. Each form of communication has its various pros an cons. A brief discussion of the general theory of communication is discussed below. Formal communication is referred to the flow of communication through a well defined channel and route. The flow of information in formal communication is deliberate and quite controlled. A formal communication always takes place in a pre defined hierarchical structure as well as chain of command. Formal communication can be considered effective as it is systematic as well as time oriented. Informal communication is referred to the communication that takes place in a multi dimensional manner. An informal communication is not bound to follow a specific channel or route of communication. It can be quicker than the formal communication but there is a probability of rumours to spread.
