INTRODUCTION A business consultant is a professional who offers expert advice in a specific area of expertise. The area can range from human resources, marketing. Information technology to many other specialized fields. Business consultants usually create solutions to problems or situations and help businesses in developing efficient plans in order to meet their respective goals(Aronoff and Ward, 2016). This report is about providing business consultancy services to the Information Technology and Human Resources departments of London School of Science and Technology, which is a privately managed college in the academic sector having four campuses. LSST is a client company for the business consultancy team. PROJECT A Client’s Business Problem London School of Science and Technology or LSST is a college that is managed privately and has four campuses across United Kingdom. Currently, the college has nearly 4000 students studying courses in different fields. LSST aims to be recognized as a leading higher education provider that is free from any kind of barriers of learning. But over the last couple of years, the market has seen many new entrants entering the market which made the market very competitive. This is posing a threat to London School of Science and Technology and can lead to a negative pact on its overall performance(Canziani and Tullar, 2017). The target audience LSST are students who have graduated from school and are seeking higher education in different domains like Business and Management, IT and Computing, Social care etc.Due to entry of new entrants in the market and offering similar education options to the students, LSST has been facing intense competition. Seeing this, senior management of the college has decided explore new potential markets instead to competing in the same market. This was also because the number of students enrolling for education at the respective college as compared to previous years also went down considerably. Client’s requirements and the combined skills, expertise and experience of the team After carefully assessing the business problem, the senior management of London School of Science and Technology decided to enter new markets instead of continuing competing within the existing market. The client is requirement to adopt online/distance learning so as to enter new
segments in the UK. The team of consultants comprises of professionals who are highly skilled and experienced in the field of information technology. The team will review the complete problem by understanding the different segments of digital market. For example, LSST will be advised to adopt distance learning so as to attract busy professionals who wish to undertake specific qualifications without committing to full-time education. This will help respective college in attracting a greater number of people from different backgrounds to enroll for courses that are offered. Also, the clients will get an opportunity to learn a particular course at their own pace without having to commit for a full-time education. The team has expertise in this field and fill certainly fulfil the requirement of the client in the best possible manner. This will help the college in building a flexible system of providing education and also provide an advantage of standing out from the new entrants in the market. PROJECT B Client’s Business Problem Another problem that London School of Science and Business is facing is that, due to a large number of new entrants in the market, the demand for qualified and experienced staff has increased. One of the reasons behind this can be that the college is currently recruiting from a very limited pool of potential applicants(Kim and Chang, 2016). This is because the applicants can find jobs from other education providers more easily. And as a result, they do not apply for job at respective college. Lack of qualified staff is posing a big problem because the overall performance of students, who are currently studying in the college is getting affected negatively. In order to resolve the problem, senior management of LSST has decided to increase the number of specialist qualifications in its course portfolio in the next academic year. Since the college currently lacks employees who are specialized in specific fields, the already existing ones are not able to impart quality knowledge to the students. The target audience of LSST should be applicants whose qualifications are particularly focused on a particular field. Experienced and qualified staff is posing competition towards LSST and can also impact on its overall goodwill in the market. Client’s requirements and the combined skills, expertise and experience of the team The senior management of London School of Science and Technology has approached a team of consultants who will help them in finding solution to the problem(Sheingate and

Sheingate, 2016). The Human Resource Department of the college is required to identify various effective ways in which suitable and qualified professionals can be recruited in order to deliver the specialist qualifications. The HR department is also required to develop a framework of different motivating factors so that staff members are motivated to deliver the best quality of education to the students. This will help the college in regaining its goodwill and enhancing overall performance. This is also because since the senior management has decided to introduce specialist qualifications that are aimed at ACCA and CIMA, it will have to recruit applicants who either already have an experience in the same or are qualified enough to deliver knowledge to the students regarding the same(Ward, 2016). This way, London School of Science and Technology will be able to gain a competitive advantage in the market against all the new entrants and maintain its position. Some of the ways in which suitably qualified academic staff can be recruitment include employee referrals, direct advertising and through recruitment agencies. CONCLUSION From the above report, it can be concluded that business consultancy is an important aspect that helps businesses in overcoming their specific challenges that can affect the overall growth of a company. Therefore, different strategies can be provided by business consultants that if organizations implement in their systems, they can overcome those and enhance overall productivity.
