INTRODUCTION
Business consulting refers to the job role that a business consultant does. The individual
that works in close contact with the owners of the business and managers for improving the
efficiency of the business operations is known as business consultant.
Royal Mail is a MNC of British origin that provides the postal and courier services. The
company is facing issues in managing the increased level of its sales. The report will give a brief
introduction of the company and the key problem it is facing. Further the report will break down
the main problem into sub problems for analysis. On the basis of the analysis the three issues that
are of top priority will be highlighted.
MAIN BODY
Royal Mail Group plc is a postal service and courier company that initially set up as a
department of government. Royal Mail Group Limited is subsidiary company of Royal Mail
Group plc. The company is facing the issue of piling up of parcels that are to be delivered. The
company is finding itself unable to deliver the postal letters and parcels to its customers timely.
There are various reasons behind the inefficiency of the company to deliver its couriers and posts
on the given deadline to the customers (Lundan, 2018). The problem of increasing demand for
the services of the company and its in efficiency to meet the deadlines is divided into number of
issues:
Uncertain Future: The company failed to predict the increase in the demand for its
services in advance. This is the main reason behind the inefficiency of the company to
meet its increasing level of sales. It is every important for a business to analyse its future
beforehand for providing or adapting to the changes when it is required.
Weak Supply Chain: The supply chain of the company is weak. As royal mail deals in
providing the services of delivering of letters, couriers, etc. here the term weak supply
chain is used to refer to the in ability of the company to deliver the letters, parcels, etc. to
the targeted audience on the deadline (Hanegraaff and Berkhout, 2019). It is a major
factor that affects the profit earning of the company. Costumers are highly disappointed
with the poor services of the company.
Inefficient Workers: The another issue that is faced by the company is that the company’s
workforce is not competent enough to support the increasing demand of the services of
the company. It is very important for the success and growth of the company to have a

competent workforce that supports the increasing need of their job roles and meet them
effectively for the long term benefit of the company. Having a good and competitive
workforce is highly beneficial for a company.
Financial Management: The other issue that the company is also not able to manage its
finances. The in capability of the company in managing its finances is the reason behind
its low performance from the competitive firms (Kumar, 2018). It is essential of a
company to keep an eye over its competitors to ensure its competitive market edge.
Analysing the business running in competition is a matter that is both time consuming
and expensive affair.
Performance monitoring: A company should always monitor its performance and the
performance of the workers that are working within the organization. Evaluating the
performance of the workers accurately and recognising their effort s and work that they
do for the organization is important for the company. It motivates the workers working
within the organization to work an d give their best for the better performance of th e
company.
Recruiting right talent: The other major issue that is faced by Royal Mail is absence of
the employees that have right talent for better servicing the needs of the company. The
employees of the organization are not talented and also not that much friendly with the
technology. The company is facing problems because of the recruiting wrong personnel.
For this there is urgent need to recruit young talent that is technological savvy and can
support the increase in the level of the demand by the company to meet the standards of
its competitors.
Right Technology: The technology that the company uses for tracking of the order and
customer id’s is outdated. Using of outdated technology by the company loosen its
competitive edge.
Maintaining reputation: Another issue that Royal Mail is facing is that the company
brand value is falling gradually because of the in efficiency of the company to meet its
sales target and meet the deadlines that its customers expect. The company is having a
reputation of instability regarding its affairs in the market.
Customer service: The last issue to be mentioned in this list is issues in the customer
services provided by the company. The company constantly fails in delivering of

services timely to its customers. This is reason behind the restlessness in the behaviour of
the customer. Having issues in the customer services that the company provides makes it
difficult for the company to retain its customer and making them opt for the services
offered by the company in long run. It also destroys the potential market of the company
for the customers (Lund-Thomsen, Hansen and Lindgreen eds., 2019). It is the reason
behind the poor financial performance of the company.
Out of the above mentioned issues the key issues or the issues that must be at the priority
of the company are prediction of the future, right talent and customer service. These three issues
are classified under the top three issue s of the company because of the reasons that will be
mentioned further.
Having accurate prediction about the future is essential for improving the customer
retention of the company. When the firm predicts the pattern of the customer demand then it will
be able to make all the necessary arrangements to support the demand. This will ensure that the
company do not lose its customers to its competitors. Also making arrangements for meeting the
anticipated demand by the customer means that the organization can assess the number of worker
it has with the number of workers it will be requiring for meeting its sales target. With proper
prediction company will be able to improve the decision making process, accurate decision
making requires accuracy in the information or the data that is revealed as per the figures in the
predictions. Further another reason for being future prediction at the priority of the company is
that the company can plan its expenses and look for the sources to raise funds which can help the
company to meet its fund requirements.
The second priority of the company should be to ensure that workforce of the company is
competent. Competency in workforce can be ensured in two ways. One way is that the company
must be strict in its recruitment and selection process. The selection process of the company must
be more dedicated to the job role of the job that is vacant (Mohr and Metcalf, 2018). The human
resource management department of the company must be directed to ensure that the company
through its recruitment process only focuses to the targeted audience that have the potentiality to
add to the worth of the company. The qualifications must be specific. Also the second way is that
the company should bring effective training the development programmes to train and develop
its personnel overall for meeting the requirements of the company. The training of the staff must
be such that the staff is competent enough to use the systems of the company.

The third factor that the company must keep at priority and work extensively upon is
making improvements in the customer services of the company. The issue is at priority because
customers are the ones who are the reason behind the existence of the company. They are the
actual users of the services that the company has to offer. Costumers are the reasons are the
profit earnings of the business entities (Rahman, Ullah and Thompson, 2018). Costumers must
be at the priority of the company at all times. The company can focus on its customer service and
enhance their experience through better internal processes. Also when the staff of the company
will be well trained the positive impact will be seen on the customer experience with the
company.
CONCLUSION
Based on the above report it is concluded that the consulting services are the activities
that a business consultant does to support the company. Royal Mail is a company that deals with
providing its customers the services of post and courier delivery. The company has failed in
predicting the increase in the demand for its services. There are number of issues that have been
faced by the company are mentioned in this report. Out of the issues or challenges that the
company face the report has selected top three issues on the basis of the priority.
