BCP FOR OAKLAND UNIVERSITY 3Oakland University Business Continuity Plan1.0 IntroductionThe Business Continuity plan is for Oakland University. This plan is aimed at maximizing the safety of humans and animals, which are within the campus, identification and minimization of danger, preserving and protecting property and restoration of normal services once a disaster has occurred. It also gives a plan for ensuring that there is an availability of critical business processes in case a man-made or natural disaster occurs (Kruis, 2014).2.0 Establishing Business Continuity Management and Disaster Recovery Standards and PoliciesIt is the policy of the Oakland University to:Come up with a strategy for reacting to and recovering from difficult situations that are inline with acceptable risk levelsInitiate a programme of activity that will ensure the university has the ability to react toand recover from difficult situations in line with the disaster recovery objectiveMaintain an appropriate response plan that has a clear escalation procedureExercising of response and recovery plans annuallyHave a level of resilience to operational failure that is in line with risk faced, level ofnegative effect that can emanate from failure and acceptable risk levelsEnsure that the employees are aware of the University’s expectations of them when anemergency or a situation that threatens business continuity arises. (Sneadker, 2013)

BCP FOR OAKLAND UNIVERSITY 4Take into account the changing needs of the university and ensure that businesscontinuity plan is revised when necessaryThe university will align itself with best practice in business continuity managementScopeThe Oakland University offers different courses and there are several faculty offices on campus.There are a number of lecture halls, library and canteen area. Additionally there are laboratoriesand a rescue centre for sick or injured animals. The University has 100 full time staff membersand 500 students, both part-time and full-time. The business continuity plan will cover disastermanagement for the entire campus incase disaster strikes or operations are disabled.GovernanceThe management of Oakland University will continuously ensure that the business continuityplan is monitored and performance outcomes are driven. They will approve the necessarybudgets, ensure adequate staffing, participate in testing of plans and regularly review thebusiness continuity plan.3.0 Business Continuity and Disaster Risk Assessment Process Oakland University management will be responsible for risk assessment and escalation.Assessment will involve identification of threats and barriers, which may be present in theoperating environment. Assessment of risk will involve measuring probability of risk and if itcan become reality (Kliem & Richie, 2015). The key questions that will be asked duringassessment are:What risk is facing Oakland University – how will the university recognize if it becomes a reality?
