INTRODUCTION
Business environment of every organisation differs from the other depending on industry
in which it operates as well as its size, scope, purpose and objectives. However, to deal with the
same effectually in today’s dynamic environment is vital for every firm (Kew and Stredwick,
2017). In the present study, there will be discussion on different types, size and scope of
organisations and interrelationship of the various functions within firm with its organisational
structure and objectives. Further, positive and negative influence/impact that macro environment
has on business operations will be studied in addition with internal strengths and weaknesses of
specific businesses. For the same, as per given scenarios, Cancer Research, UK, Ryanair and
NHS have been chosen.

P1. Purposes of Cancer Research UK, Ryanair and NHS
Cancer Research, UK
This is a charity organization or can also be termed as voluntary firm. Major purpose
behind establishment of this organization was to have a strict control over the rapid increase of
deaths in UK due to cancer with the help of conducting research and spreading awareness for the
prevention of disease through ways like early diagnosis and effective treatment. Some more
purposes for which organisation got established were to ensure that there will be improvement in
the lives of patients suffering with cancer and to make them understand the progress that firm is
making. Moreover, Cancer Research aims to work in partnership with others so that it can
successfully fight against this disease at the global level.
Ryanair
Ryanair is a low cost airline that of mainly famous as the first budget airliner which
presently has become one of the leading carriers in the UK. This is a private subsidiary company
having parent firm, Ryanair Holdings plc. Main purpose of this organization is to make airline
services available to income class people by providing same at a cost which is affordable to
them. Another purpose behind running the business of Ryanair is to increase customer base or
can say passenger traffic to have a strong position in the markets it operates.
NHS

NHS is a public company which is the largest health and social care organization of UK
having main purpose to create value for its customers by making healthcare services available to
all regardless of the matter that whether they can afford the same or not. Another purpose behind
its services is to meet the needs of everyone and provide them a healthy lifestyle by charging no
fees for same and making it free at the point of delivery. Services of NHS are completely based
on clinical needs rather on the ability of people to pay.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Cancer Research, UK – Organization came into existence with the merger of “Cancer
Research Campaign and “Imperial Cancer Research Fund” which was held on 4th February in
the year 2002. It is famous for carrying out the research activities across world regarding cancer
in universities, institutes and hospitals through organising different campaigns and giving
advertisements. Cancer Research gets complete fund from the public only and raises money
through donations, legacies, community fundraising, events, retail and corporate partnerships.
On regular basis, organisation has more than 40,000 people as volunteers. The firm is supported
with 9 Clinical Trials Units, 17 Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres, 7 graduate training
programmes and run 5 Institutes.
Ryanair – In the year 1985, this airline started with having only 57 staff members. At that
time, one 15-seater turboprop plane was launched from the south east of Ireland to London-
Gatwick, passenger carrying capacity of which was 5000 on one route. In 1986, its staff
increased from 57 to 120 with enhanced carrier capacity i.e. 82,000 passengers on two routes
(Kennedy, 2017). In this duration, Ryanair was the top of the Aer Lingus or British Airways high
fare cartel on the Dublin-London route. Every year, strength of staff and fleet size kept on
increasing and as of now, the airline is having more than 28 routes with having the largest
booking website i.e. approx. 50,000 per week and gaining more passenger growth up to millions.
NHS NHS was established by the Minister of Health on 5th July 1948. In the year 2011,
month of March, NHS constitution was published by the Department of Health. Under the same,
rights as a patient of NHS and its guiding principles were provided. Also, principles and values
of NHS were being set by discussing same with its staff, public as well as the patients. The firm
is funded through general taxation systems and its services are for all legal English residents.
