INTRODUCTION
Business environment comprises internal and external components which influence on
operations of an organisation. Government, management, employees, suppliers, customers and
many other factors directly or indirectly affect on business. It is essential that management
consider them while formulating policies and rules. Besides this, competitors strategies and
functioning are acknowledged for making system function effectively (Business environment.
2018). Present report is based on Lego which is private firm headquartered in Billund, Denmark.
It is a toy sector company that provides variety of playthings and bricks to people. Different
types and purpose of organisations is specified in this assignment. In addition to this, relationship
between organisational functions and their link to objectives and structure is stated. Macro
environment factors positive and negative impact on business is mentioned in report.
Furthermore, internal and external analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses is explained.

P1 Different types and purposes of organisations
In recent time, organisations plays essential role in driving market conditions. Public,
private and voluntary are three forms of firms which increases employment chances. Besides
this, they also contribute in economic and social growth of country. But these organisation differ
with each other in respect to ownership and functioning that is described below:
Public sector: This segment includes firms which are run and functioned by government
for serving society. Police, education, health care, infrastructure such as bridge, water supply,
road, telecommunications are services which are provided by this industry (Vaiman,
Sigurjonsson and Davidsson, 2011). Bank of England is central bank of United Kingdom that
regulate nation by framing laws and regulations in respect to monetary policies and commercial
bank.
Purpose: Bank of England aim is to regulate economic conditions of United Kingdom. It
issues currency and formulate policies in respect to monetary and fiscal. Along this, it also
function as lender of last resort to financial institutions and government's bank.
Legal structure: State, local and central government are various structure that are
followed by public sector organisation are mentioned beneath:

State Government: These are authorities which have political power and controlling
authority of country. Local Government: These are administration whose duty is to control local part of
territory. State, province, region, district, city, town and village are part of local
government entities.
Central government: These are administrative units of state and central agencies that are
responsible for economic territory of nation. This level government formulate policies,
issue currency and provide other economic and social services for development of
country (Wack, 2017).
Private sector: It is another segment which comprises companies which are owned and
controlled by a single person or individuals. These are firms that are incorporated by people for
generating profit and didn't need to be function in respect to government bodies. Lego is private
manufacturing firm which provide branded toys and interlocking plastic bricks. Thus, company
deliver products and services for accomplishing demands and needs of buyers.
Purpose: Lego aim is to encourage and inspire children to make them think in creative
manner. Besides this, they are also made capable to shape future by playing with toys (Yu and
Ramanathan, 2013).
Legal structure: Sole trader and partnership are two types of structure which private
firms follow are stated below: Sole Trader: These are firms that are incorporated and run by single person for

Partnership: These are enterprise which are managed by two or more individuals that

activities for social development of country. These are organisation which are established by

Purpose: UNICEF is organisation, whose aim is to protect rights of children by fulfilling
their basic demands. Besides this, they even enlarge opportunities and aid them to reach to full

Legal structure: These are structure which are followed by voluntary sector are stated
below: Not- for Profit organisation: These are firms whose goal is to serve community by

Public: Bank of England is central bank of United Kingdom which regulate and control
economic functionality of country. It is an independent public organisation which issue currency
and frame policies that is monetary and fiscal. Mark Carney is governor of bank who take
decisions and run functioning of institution.
Size: It is eighth level old bank in all over world which was founded in 1694 and got
nationalised in 1946.
Scope: Bank of England is central bank which formulates policies in respect to monetary
and fiscal. Bank also issues bank notes and currency for maintaining financial stability of
country. Besides this, it also provide banking services to government and commercial
institutions.
Mission and Vision statement: Mission of Bank of England is to maintain financial and
monetary stability of United Kingdom for promoting goodness of people (Sekaran and Bougie
2016). Vision of bank is to explore financial system for better tomorrow of country and people.

Private: Lego is private company which had headquarter in Denmark selling variety of
toys and bricks. Ole Kirk Christiansen is founder whose support people are Jorgen Vig
Knudstorop and Niels B. Christiansen who are executive chairman and chief executive officer.
Size: Lego was started in 1932 and now in 2017 there are 42 offices all over country.
This help top personnel to generate profit of about 37.9 billion as per 2016. Company have
nearly 19000 subordinates employed. This help in delivery of products and services in respect to

president and Henrietta H. Fore is executive director that run agency.
Size: UNICEF got established in 1946 for providing vaccine, educational supplies,
medicine, shelter and other services to children and mothers. This help agency to earn revenue of
about $5,000,000,000 (Tayur, Ganeshan and Magazine, 2012).
Scope: Goal of UNICEF is to protect rights of children and mother for development of

operations effectively (Türetken and et. al., 2011).
Human resource department: HR duty is to manage workforce, so that sufficient people
are present in organisation for attainment of objectives. Recruitment, selection, training,
development, compensation are various practices which are conducted by human resource of
Lego. This help company to have skilled and competent people that are divided into other units
that are finance, marketing, production, sales, etc. on basis their capabilities. Thus, management
have sufficient manpower that support them in attainment of business goals and objectives.
Finance department: This unit responsibility is to utilise funds properly by maintaining
financial statement that is trial balance, trading, profit & loss, balance sheet. They keep check on
