INTRODUCTION
Business environment is a study of micro and macro environment in order to analyse the
fluctuation in various elements which have a major impact on company performance. However,
it is essential to consider indispensable components while designing organizational policies such
as; legal norms to reduce fraudulent activities, political rules to make company strategies and so
on (Terpstra, Foley and Sarathy, 2012). Therefore assignment is going to highlight various types
of organization like; public, private and voluntary for understanding their roles and
responsibilities towards society. For example; case study of Google and Cancer research is given
in this project for defining their size and scope. As a result, main motive of this assignment is to
analyse the scope of various associations in order to acquire information about the necessary
details of distinct enterprises.
TASK 1
1. Types and purposes of various organizations
Corporate world is full of several types of companies by having distinguished in various
terms such as; size, scope, objectives, purposes and its legal structure. In fact, numbers of
enterprises are emerging at local, national and international levels for developing the nation or
entire world as well as promote modernization. Basically, three types of associations are
identifying at marketplace such as; public, private and voluntary but having differences in
several factors. Thus, various types of organizations are described as follows:-
Private company:- Another name of these associations are also known as profitable
enterprise whose main motive is to generate maximum amount of return on their initial
investment by satisfying the needs or demands of consumers (Berthon and et. al., 2012). Along
with this, their main purpose is to expand their business across the regions in order to acquire
trust or loyalty of consumers. In fact, numbers of private companies are emerging at marketplace
with numerous of motives. Beside, various types of private associations are described as
follows:-
Sole trader: - As per this element if an association is run or controlled by single person
then it is known as sole proprietor. In this organization profits and liabilities are not
shared with any one which means owner is liable for every action or changes. For
example; repairmen, plumber, parlour and so on.

Partnership:- If an association is controlled or run by two person in a team then it falls
under this category. Basically, in this liabilities and profits are shared between partners.
Limited company:- Large number of companies are emerging at marketplace for gaining
maximum benefits by acquiring help from various shareholders. Their main objective is
to grab large opportunities by expanding their business across the distinct regions. For
instance; Google is a multinational organization whose main objective is to serve entire
world with outstanding services by coming with unique creative ideas.
However, all the above types of private companies are following distinct type of legal
structure as per requirements such as; sole trader is not considering high level of legal formalities
whereas partnerships needs to consider partnerships acts and all the rules which is applicable on
this association. On the other hand, limited company is engaged in proper form of legal
formalities in order to control the possibilities of fraudulent acts. For example; Google is
following an appropriate path and norms to run their business entity in ethical manner. As a
result aids in attaining their set objectives or goals in a defined time frame (Paliwoda and
Thomas, 2013).
Public company: - Government are focussing on developing entire nation by conducting
various society development programmes as their main objective is to serve community with
outstanding facilities. For example; defence is involving in a preventing country from terrorist
attacks, road construction, conducting awareness programmes and so on. Beside this, some
organization are partially profitable in order to run their association in perfect manner. For
example; Royal Dutch Shell is UK oil and gas organization by having its headquartered in
Netherlands and their main objective is to serve entire society with outstanding services for
uplifting the community. Legal structure of public company is different from private as these
associations are partially controlled by governing bodies. Mainly, they need to registered their
association as limited company by following the necessary legal terms and conditions (Vincent
and et. al., 2012).
Voluntary organization:- These association are engaged in offering basic needs to the
requisite people as their main motive is to develop the nation by offering best facilities to overall
society. However, these type of institutions are believes in charity as their objective is to
facilitate consumers with distinct needs. For example; as per given case study cancer research is
most famous campaign which is design for reducing deaths which is caused due to cancer as

their objective is to control dangerous diseases. Mainly, their main motive is to come up with
creative ideas for overcoming various health issues which is faced by individuals in their life
period. Apart from this, it has been understood that voluntary organizations are not following any
kind of legal structure as they are involved in a charitable activities.
2. Size and scope of organizations
After understanding various types of business organization it’s time to focus on size and
scope of public, private and voluntary associations by throwing lights on distinct factors. In fact,
all the companies are distinguish from each other in various extents such as; motives, size,
purposes and so on (Cadogan, 2012). Thus, size and scope of various type of sector are described
as follows on assumption basis:-
Private company:- These enterprises are distinct from other sectors in various terms
because their main objective is to acquire high range of return on their investment either by hook
or crook. Apart from this, it has been understood that there is a major difference between size
and scope of various types of private enterprises. For instance;
Sole trader like beauty parlours are having single or two branches in a single state as
well as limited funds because organization is handled by a sole person. Along with this,
staff members are also limited which is not more than 3-5 members.
Partnership consist of involvement of two members or partners and follow all the
clause of partnership acts in order to control possibilities of any mistakes. Moreover,
profits and all the other things are shared between these two partners as well as
employees are not more than 50.
Limited company is involved in serious or proper procedures for running their
organization in order to attain their long term objectives by satisfying the needs of
domestic as well as foreign clients.
Joint venture – These are the cooperative enterprises in which two or more business
entities working together with a specific purpose and objective. These are the private
sector entities in which each individual shares a their ownership properly.
Franchising – Most of the Private sector organisations get license to operate their
business by using franchisee's name on different locations. These are the methods of
expanding business ta different locations by buying a right to operate a clone of same

business. Through this private sector organisation can expand their business size and
structure easily.
Licensing – These are legal bodies which are regulated for private sector organisations
to grant the right of using intellectual property, brand, products as well as on royalty.
The organisation who having license can makes a appropriate capital investment for their
operation practices.
As per given case study Google is a most successful or leading organization whose main
objective is to serve consumers with best facilities and development opportunities. Along with
this, trying to encourage usage of internet across the international marketplace (Zhou, Wu and
Barnes, 2012). Basically, in 2013 Google is having around 16800 employees by having its
offices in almost 70 offices in more than 40 nations. As a result it shows that company is
expanding across the globe by satisfying the needs of clients in minimum durations. Apart from
this, company is concentrating on creativity for gaining attention of maximum number of people.
Public company: - Royal Dutch is most successful multinational plc by existing from
around 111 years in order to facilitate with oil and gas services as their main objective is to
develop the nation. Basically, this company is seen as sixth oil and gas super major association
across the world in terms of revenues. According to 2017 report this company is having around
92000 employees and net income is almost 12.97 billion which shows the growth of an
enterprise. As a result company is getting succeeded in establishing their image at marketplace
with their unique and different ideas.
Voluntary organization: - Cancer research is one of the most successful campaigns
which were emerged for preventing society from dangerous diseases as their main aim is to
reduce cancer patient. However, charitable organizations are run or controlled by various social
institutions whose main objective is to serve needy people with qualitative facilities.
Additionally, it has been understood that large number researchers are involved in acquiring
funds for association such in July 2018 Cancer research can definitely acquire large number of
donor that is around 10 million Euros (Bello, Katsikeas and Robson, 2010).
3. Relationship between organizational functions of both the organizations
Every company are different in their purposes and motives as some are established for
gaining maximum range of benefits but at the same time few are designed for serving entire
society with qualitative facilities. In fact, some are established just for developing the requisite

people by providing free services to them. As per given case study Google and Cancer research
these two organizations are highly different from each other such as; one is profit oriented and
another is society oriented. Thus, both the companies are distinguish from each which shows
their types such as; Google is private and Cancer research is voluntary due to that it is
automatically shows that both the companies are different from each other. At the same time one
thing is determined that various department of an organization are interlinked with each other as
well as targets are also similar. Thus, connections between all the sections of an organization are
described as follows:-
Marketing and HR: - As per both of this department company needs to hire skilled or
talented employees but without the help of sales team it is not possible to attract
candidates for interview. Thus, by connecting both the sections Google and Cancer
research campaign can easily appoint talented staff members to accomplish their business
activities which resulted in attainment of set goals or objectives in a given duration. For
marketing practices, organisation always requires for skilled and capable candidates who
understand needs as well as requirements of customers therefore HR manager of Google
requires to hire requisite candidates for their firm. In a business organisation, each and
every department is working to satisfy requirement and need of each others.
Finance and marketing:- Capital is seen as backbone for every enterprise either its
private, public or voluntary because without funds company can’t able to run their
association all the task are depend upon this only. However, advanced marketing strategy
is only possible if there is presence of high range of funds then the organization can
easily capture the minds of millions of clients. For example; Google is having sufficient
of funds due to which they can easily using digital technologies for gaining attention of
users. On the other hand, cancer research is not having large amount of capital due to
which they are demanding charity from rich people, institutions and so on. Hence,
marketing and finance are highly interconnected with each other and it is essential to
consider necessary elements before accomplishing business activities (Cavusgil and
Cavusgil, 2012). In order to conducting marketing practices properly, organisations
always required for appropriate funds so for this finance department provides their own
services to marketing division for conducting their activities properly. Through this, they

Apart from these two numbers of other elements are also identified which shows that
several department of both the organizations are fully connected with each other and success is
depend upon them only. Additionally, company needs to consider above elements while making
organizational plans and policies in order to regulate probabilities of any mistakes or losses.
Google is following each or every aspects which resulted in their worldwide success and
development (Mora, 2013).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been summarized that study of external and internal
environment is highly indispensable for success of an association because it is helpful for an
enterprise as well as whole world in various forms. For example; awareness about fluctuation in
currency rate aids in alerting others before getting involved in any long term contracts.
Throughout the study it has been identified that number of companies are emerging at
marketplace but with distinguish in several factors such as; size, scope, types and purposes.
Hence, it is beneficial for company development as well as whole nation to understand the
changes which is occurring in order to take initiatives as per the requirements.
