Literature Review
The conceptual framework of modern slavery act 2015
According to the International Labour organisation (ILO), it is stated that there are
approximately 40 million individuals who are working as slave in this whole world. Modern
slavery is one of the fastest growing crime and numbers are increasing every year. There is
limitation of present literature on contemporary slavery and this includes ignoring history of
slavery. International migration is known as one of the biggest challenge within era of
globalisation. There are also political debate held within recent years and they have provided
certain regulations within few years. There are various individuals who have been migrated to
different countries. There are some environmental degradation, natural disaster and industrial
pollutants which have been the reason for individuals to migrate from one country to another.
There are various vulnerable people who are taking risk for providing help to their families. It
can be considered as an apparently good job within UK and these people have to take loan from
traffickers in advance. When people are trapped within no possession, then there are no means of
returning and reliant on the traffickers.
The modern slavery act is defined as the number of measurement which is used in aspect of
slavery and human trafficking. Whereas, this is about creating new criminal offences, power and
enforcement and allow this to protect victim. This introduce various requirement to eradicate the
core of slavery and trafficking in world wide. The modern slavery act is coming in existence at

public sector and to issue its own declaration on the Modern Slavery Act, which assesses the
danger of modern slavery through its annual public spending on goods and services of about £ 50
billion. In view of the fact that several firms are now being managed properly. The Modern
Slavery Act 2015 ('the Act') refers to all public and private foreign corporations, independent of
the field in which they work and whether they have been integrated into the UK or not. These
businesses are expected to comply with the provisions of the Act unless they have a worldwide
net turnover of more than £ 36 million and if the corporation exists in the UK, or any part of its
market, etc. The statement should also provide details on the organization of corporations,
industries and production lines, its due diligence processes in relation to human trafficking, as
well as its risk profile and risk reduction steps, rather than just a clarification on the company's
policies in relation to modern slavery. The declaration may also define the actions that are or will
be taken. it is analysed that the modern slavery act is involved within the company policies in
order to develop the employee benefits at workplace. there is need for managing the policies

linked with the way of developing effective and positive workplace.
There is need to develop an effective workplace for managing the work in better
manner. The new policy was developed because it is important to develop the
scenario of working in better manner. There are several recent developments.
there are various ways to develop ad enhance the company’s environment as it
will help to manage the work efficiently. This is known as accessing open source

hold companies to account for compliance with the statutory framework and
commitment to ending modern slavery. Although the Government recognised
the value in having such a registry, it remained steadfast in its commitment to
not establishing the registry itself. The statement registry serves a valuable

Timing – There is need of setting uniform reporting period in order to manage the deadline and
develop agreement. Organisations have to manage the reporting timeline and develop the UK
regime. According to Modern slavery Act 2018, it is concluded that reporting regimes are
organised.
Publication - There is requirement for organisations in order to publish statements within
Government for encouraging and publishing statements while services are voluntarily managed.
There is need for developing effective development of agreements in relation to the legislative
change that is involved in managing force of this act.
Approval - The amendment of legislations for making some current requirements clear is
necessity for specifying approval of the act and identification of the act regulations.
Public organisations – This is involved within reporting the requirements of public hosts for
modern slavery statements. Government has to consider several actions in accordance with
single enforcement body in relation to employment rights. Subsection 5 of the Bill would
require the State Secretary to publish a list of businesses and organizations needed to publish
statements on slavery and trafficking in human beings. Importantly, Clause 2 of the Bill allows
an agency to be given a public contract to enable economic operators to be removed from the
procurement process if a slave was not created. The minimum that businesses must do in terms
of adherence to the Act is to publish a statement on their website outlining what measures they
have taken over the past financial year to tackle slavery, in all parts of their supply chain and all
parts of their business. Before being released, the Statement must be accepted by the Board of
Directors. However, the contents of this declaration are not prescribed.

Recommend ways by which challenges associated with modern slavery act of 2015 can be
overcome by ENGIE
Modern slavery is the broad term which is associated slavery, servitude, forced,
compulsory labour and human trafficking. To solve this issues and problems which is faced by
UK people, this association is opened in 2015. To tackle the issues slavery act, 2015, which is
applied by the various organisation in the companies to tackle this problem and trying to
complete the individual rights for the UK people. In ENGIE company, they are the one who
established that act and use the act in the company by appointing black people and those who are

company to overcome this challenge and use this act in the day to day life-cycle to achieve the
desired objective of the company. First thing to make the easiest way to follow this act in the
company, as most of the companies think that it is the complex, hidden and challenging process
to establishing in the organisation. Another approach is a good leadership style will help the
ENGIE to make the difference in the industry and stand alone to fight from this challenge and
issues. Furthermore those companies who are aligned with this act must make the response to
make more progress and strategies to make the plan, policies and performance indicators.
Another suggestion which must be used by the ENGIE company is to make the collaboration but
not to work in the competitive barrier in the work culture of the company. As this is the NGO
which are work for the development of the people of UK. So it is not right to work and perform
in the competitive environment. In addition with the recommendation, the another driver is to
have the reputation risk which effect the productivity of the company and influence the price
policy. This is being very important to work in the best ethical and sustainable development.
This is work which is used to associated with the corporate action as most of the companies are
try to addressing the risk factors and work according to that. With the help of sustainable
solutions and modern slavery techniques take time to resolve but it require the urge attention and
action to complete the task. It is the journey of the work, which is helpful in addressing the
problems and manage the task and activities require to solve the basic slavery problems. ENGIE
company acknowledge the manufacturing industry which face high risk of forced supply chain
labour. They try to develop the RBA development approach to the use by modern slavery 2015.
Research methodology
The research methodology is a process used by investigators while maintaining the working
of different research processes. It is considered that the research methodology must be effective
so that research aims and objectives are properly achieved. There is need to develop a perfect
plan and explore research aims. The exploration of effective management within research is
required for completing the work effectively. this is very important for all investigators to
analyse and manage the completion of research effectively and for that research onion processes
are followed. The research theory comprises of several activities that are involved in managing
different activities and tasks. There is need to evaluate and analyse different research activities in

different processes involved within research work are mentioned below -
Research Philosophy – It is known as value or belief of the researcher towards certain
factors of research. This is concluded that research activities and tasks and completed in effective
manner and they are managed on the basis of certain beliefs and values. It is efficient that
researcher is using effective accurate research philosophy while completing the project work.
There are different belief or assumption according to which different task and practices of the
research will be performed. It is essential that researcher is considering correct or accurate
research philosophy in order to gather accurate outcomes of the research as well as attain desired
goals. The research philosophy is defined as the way in which researchers are completing
different processes used for completing a successful research. There are basically two type of
research approaches including Interpretivism and positivism research philosophy. It is essential
that researcher is determining different elements and aspects. In order to conduct this research
practices investigator is considering positivism research philosophy. This is accurate and
appropriate in order to find correct or accurate information about the topic.
Research Approach – Research approach is defined as the way by which investigator is able
to manage the work and know what is to be done in order to have efficient research. There is
need to have significant management of collecting and gathering information for managing the
completion of good research. A research approach helps researcher for managing the collection
of accurate information and data that can be used for conducting data analysis. This is known as
a deliberate strategy involved within research for gathering as well as collecting right type of
data and information. There is requirement of collecting information associated with modern
slavery act 2015 in this research. It is done by collecting and grabbing information from different
articles and journals. Also, information is taken from websites of ENGIE company. These
include different ways to manage research activities and tasks that will help to maintain efficient
working. There is need for managing and handling different research activities associated with
modern slavery research act and how it is used within ENGIE. There are basically two type of
research approaches including deductive and inductive approach. In context of this research, it is
concluded that deductive approach is used for managing and handling data. This approach helps
in managing the working of researcher. There is need to develop new research abilities in order

to manage and handle the work in proper manner. There are both primary and secondary method
used for collecting the information and data regarding modern slavery act 2015 and how it is
used within ENGIE. All the companies are making effective plans in order to implement this
plan within the business working. This helps in creating good solutions for the companies to
manage working and functioning.
Data Collection Tools – It is defined as the way by which data is collected for completing
the research work. There is need to manage and evaluate data properly so that work can be
managed according to the scenario of research. There is need for evaluating the research work
and maintaining it in proper manner. Different methods of data collection are mentioned below-
Primary sources - When a data is first time and directly collected by the people through
the interview, research and events. It is directly collected by the researcher for some
specific project and it is not used in past by anyone else. Primary data can be qualitative
and quantitative it will depends upon the type of the project. It can be collected by the
interviews, dairy. Primary data is collected through the first hand information taken from
the respondents.
Secondary sources - This is known as the type of information and data which is
collected from articles, journals, magazines, etc. It is not authentic and reliable as
compared to the primary data. There are some issues and drawbacks that are associated
with data collection through secondary sources as it can also be a case that the available
information is not complete, hence the researcher has to deal with the problem and this
can have a negative impact over the results of the research. Therefore, if the secondary
data available does not answer the research question, it is not relevant for the research
and hence, cannot be used.
Types of Investigation – There is investigation used for managing the attainment of research
aims and objectives. There is need for evaluating and developing new ways to manage the work.
it is important to manage and develop proper process for completing the research activities and

Qualitative data is collected from the interviews, observation, and secondary data. It has
the wide range of sources to collect data. it is used to discover the depth knowledge and
understanding of individual experience, opinions and thoughts. It is used in the
unstructured and structured technique (Ryder and et.al., 2020). Respective method
include numbers of images or picture as well as data which help researcher in presenting
information in most effective and proper manner.
Data Sampling – It is essential for researcher to have proper data sampling practices in order
to find correct and accurate number of sample that will represent whole population. The data
sampling is the essential thought of the researcher as it chiefly recreates over the choice of
unique population. There are essentially two kinds of inspecting strategy that is probabilistic and
non-probabilistic technique. In the current research, random sampling methods is consider as
likelihood examining is being actualized by the analyst since it helps in choice of huge measure
of test inside least time span. Through this method of data sampling investigator will be able to
find correct and accurate information about the topic as well as take accurate decisions.
Ethical Consideration – It is crucial for researcher to conduct research practices by
considering research ethics. This will lead to have major impact over successful and effective
functioning of research practices. Research ethics and morals are assessed as the powerful key

There are several articles and journals used while completing this file. These helped in
knowing the framework of modern slavery act 2015 in effective manner. The MODERN
SLAVERY ACT 2015 aim to secure all kinds of labour or workers exploitation and try to create

members and training which is given to labour to secure their rights must be included in this.
After identified risk factor company should prepare a risk mitigation strategy to deal with these
risk factors or issues and this strategy must be used by organisation in such conditions.
It is mandatory to gave a public message through communication team when slavery and human

taken to recognise and resolve their modern slavery risks. The provisions of the supply chain
refer to business organizations that are described as a corporate entity or partnership (wherever
organized or formed) that conducts a business (in business). The declaration does not need to
follow a specified form, but the content proposed includes describing: the nature of the company,
its business, and supply chains; policies and staff training relating to slavery and trafficking in
human beings. Procedures of due diligence in the company's industry and supply chains related
to slavery and human trafficking. The components of its organization and supply chains that a
company has to implement. Under the new guidance, if due to COVID-19 associated pressures,
corporations will postpone releasing their Modern Slavery Act statements for up to six months
without penalty. However, before they are released, companies should state the reason for any
delay (for instance, if they have limited staff capacity) in their statements. Companies will also
need to report on the measures they have taken during the company process.
The government defined areas where employees could be more vulnerable due to COVID-19 to
the risks of modern slavery, and outlined the following prevention steps: Health and safety:
Companies should enforce effective local or national government policies across the supply
chain, including measures to separate themselves from society and to pay statutory sick pay.
Supporting suppliers: To stop being employee to get in problem, the modern slavery act was
introduced. In establishing the Modern Slavery Act, the UK has set a successful example and
other countries are following suit. The Australian Government is launching an inquiry later this
month into whether legislation to tackle industrial slavery in global supply chains should be
adopted. The terms of reference explicitly apply to the United Kingdom Act and any legislation
introduced is likely to be modelled on the United Kingdom Structure.

The investors and stakeholders need to have signal for companies as it is associated with
management and diligence of human right risks. This demonstrates good governance and proper
management. It is analysed that The modern slavery act 2015 is given by the parliament of UK it
is planned for the identification of victims and prevention of modern slavery. This act saves the
right of the labours who are working in the organisation. The employees who are working in the
organisation have the right work according to their working hours provided by the organisation
but if the organisation is making them work without paying the reasonable amount then it comes
under modern slavery act. This act was developed by Theresa may on 26 march 2015. human
trafficking is increasing day by day 45.8 million people were caught under this plan around the
world which is a huge amount. In 2015 this act has become mandatory for all the organisation
who are operating in UK they have to follow the rules and regulations of this act if any
organisation refuse to follow this act then strict action will be taken against them(Al-Sudairy,
2017). In 29 march 2015 the transparency in supply chain provision was developed in this every
business has to prepare a report to ensure that organisation is not a part of human trafficking. If
the organisation is earning its profit by the help of human trafficking then there growth is illegal
as per the law. In the world of democracy every individual has the right to take their own
decision and plan according to them but some business owner take the advantage of their
employees and make them work more by forcing them or making false promises with them
which is the crime. Every individual work for the money which will satisfy their basic needs if
they will not be get paid according to the work which they are doing then it will increase
unemployment which will affect the growth the country. Every organisation has to work by
motivating their employees without forcing them so that modern slavery cannot take place in the
organisation. they should also inform their employees about this act to create proper working
environment of the employees(Buckner 2018) .
Most of the organisation are doing human trafficking of children which is known as child labour
they keep poor children as their workers and force them to work without getting them paid which
affects their growth and their mental ability It is difficult to determine the exact numbers because
most the cases are being unreported. Women's are also a becoming part of human trafficking
they being forced of the sexual exploitation. Human trafficking is the biggest crime which has be
stopped by the government so that the country's growth cannot get affected. This act will help the
to remove human trafficking and provides the legal rights to the labours so that they can take

action against it. There are two types of labour exploitation one is bonded labour and unexpected
labour
Bonded labour are the labours which are assigned for given period of time they are not
permanent labour for the organisation they can easily be removed by the owner after the
particular period of time.
Unexpected labour are basically the forced labour which are forced for the work by the
organisation they freedom is limited in the organisation they cannot take their own decision they
have to work according the requirement of the owner. Owner force them to work without guiding
the rules and regulation of the organisation because of which labours are not able to take action
against the organisation this act helps labours to take action against the organisation and prevent
themselves from human trafficking(Dustagheer and Rycroft2017).
Engine UK is one of the top energy and service company in the world which achieve its success
through help of the proper management system so that there goals can be achieved in the
organisation without effecting its employees. Engine uk avoid human trafficking and fully in
support with this act so that no illegal activity can take place in the organisation and work can be
done effectively in the organisation. It ensures that all the people in the organisation from top
level to bottom are treated equally they do not get biased with their employees due to which it is
on the top position in the market if the employees will be happy by the work provided to them
they will work with full efficiency which will help in the growth of the business for the long
period of time because they will not face any illegal aligation will maintain its reputation in the
market and will increase its demand. People will also want to work with such organisation which
is on the top in terms of earning profit(Horn 2018). Other firms who are entertaining human
trafficking and earning its profit will not survive for a long period of time also its reputation will
go down in the market once it will fail to provide the justification of the profit which it has
earned. They also have to provide a proper statement of supply of labour and the overall turnover
of the organisation which will show its working and the activities which they are performing.
In UK it has made compulsory for every organisation to provide the statement under this act to
check that modern slavery is not taking place in the organisation and if any organisation is
caught with this activity then strict action will be taken against them so that uk can make the
labours free from modern slavery and work by taking their own decision in the organisation if
people are forced to work then their ability to work in the organisation gets decreased which will

affect their growth because they dont have the right to put their point of view in the business
decision which will affect the development of the individual. Modern slavery act is approved by
the board of directors of the organisation which ensure that every member in the organisation
should follow the rules and regulation of this act and they also have to provide the statement
including the members of the management(Johnson 2018). An organisation can take proper time
for preparing this statement and the rules and regulation which are guided to the labour should be
included in this.
