Introduction
The aim of this report is to critically analyze the corporate social responsibility of
travel and outdoor industry. It is to be mentioned that that the critical analysis takes into
consideration the impacts of the operations of the organization on the society and the
environment. The chosen organization in this case is called Travis the Translator. The
company claims to have launched a product which translates eighty languages. The
product aims to reduce the barriers of communication. The chosen company’s corporate
social responsibility is to ensure that maximum utilization of natural resources that are
available for the production process.
To determine the corporate social responsibility of the chosen organization the
principles of sustainability, accountability and transparency are applied (McWilliams,
2014.). The report also analyzes the impact of the chosen organization’s campaigns on
the environmental, social and economic aspects of the society. The objective of this
report is also to provide recommendations to the chosen organization about
achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals to be considered in this report are Eradication of
poverty and Gender Equality. Recommendations are also provided in this report for the
achievement of gender Equality and achieving Gender Equality.
Critical Analysis of Corporate Social Responsibility of Travel and Outdoors
industry
Corporate social responsibility can be defined as the initiatives of a company to
judge the impacts of the company’s operations on the environment and taking
responsibility for the same. Corporate social responsibility takes into account the
impacts of the chosen company’s operations on the society as a whole (Crane, Matten,
& Spence, Corporate social responsibility in a global context., 2013). The aim of
corporate social responsibility is to promote the well being of the society and the
environment. It can be stated that the aim of corporate social responsibility is to ensure
that a relationship exists between the large organizations, the governments of the

It is notable that the activities and operations of an organization not only have
impacts not only on the organization itself but also on the external environment. The
environmental aspect involves the environment where the organization is located and
the global environment. Therefore the corporate social responsibility of the Travel and
outdoor industry involves maximum utilization of natural resources that are available for
the production process. The Company, ”Travis the translator” must ensure that the
operations of the same aim to enrich the community. It is also to be noted that the
corporate social responsibility of the company is to ensure that the profits of the
company are divided amongst the owners through dividends and the workers through
wages and salaries (Hansen, et al., 2015). It must also ensure that it does not have
detrimental effects on the environment by emission of greenhouse gases or any other
pollutant during its production process (Crane, Matten, & Spence, 2013). There are
three main principles of sustainability, transparency and accountability corporate social
responsibility that can be applied in the chosen industry.
The principle of Sustainability states that organizations should avoid using
resources which cannot be regenerated. The principle also states that organizations
should measure the rate at which the resources are being used and the rate at which
the resources can be regenerated (Tai & Chuang, 2014). Therefore it can be mentioned
that the aim of the chosen industry would be to ensure that the resources being used by
the same for production process can be regenerated and will also be available for use in
the future.
The principle of accountability states that every organization must recognize the
effects of its actions on the environment. This principle also states that the record of the
impacts of the actions of the chosen industry on the environment and the society must
be kept and be supplied to the affected parties. This implies that the chosen industry
has social responsibilities.

The principle of transparency states that the impacts of the actions of the
organization must evaluated from the reporting of the organization and the no facts
should be concealed (Leitch & Leitch, 2017). It can be noted that transparency is of
utmost importance to the outsiders as the outsiders completely rely on the information
provided by the organization about the impacts of their actions (Carroll, E., & Einwiller,
2014). Thus it can be stated that the chosen industry must be very transparent about
their operations and the impacts of the operations and must convey the information to
the outsiders without concealing any pertinent facts.
Impacts of the organization’s campaigns on the Environment, Society and
Economy
The company Travis the translator aims to eliminate the communicational barrier
between people. It campaigns on Indiegogo that it is a device that translates 80
languages in less than two seconds. It claims to use the latest technology available in
the market and also claims to be the most innovative gadget available in the market. It
also claims to contribute greatly to the society.The aforementioned organization,
Indiegogo can take necessary steps to provide quality education. The device, Travis the
translator, can act as an interpreter and overcome the language barrier that exists in the
society. It can reach out to the backward communities and help them receive the quality
education of the mainstream society. As stated that the organization Indiegogo is a
social enterprise which aims to contribute to the development of the society. The
organization claims to promote globalization and bring together people of different
cultures and communities (Indiegogo, 2018). Bringing together people of different
communities is expected to promote globalization and create more opportunities for
development.
The company aims to donate Travis devices for refugee language education
(Indiegogo, 2018). It can be said that the operations of organizations have impacts on
the environment. For the the production of the devices the environment must not be
harmed. The production process of the device must not involve emissions of harmful
pollutants such as CFC which are detrimental to the environment. The company must

environment. It must formulate policies which are environment friendly. It must take

Translator is reasonable priced and therefore can target the mass. It can specifically
target travellers travelling to countries where they face communication problem
(Indiegogo, 2018).
Recommendations to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Quality Education
It is to be mentioned that providing and obtaining quality education is essential
for the growth and development of a community. To ensure that quality education is
received by all the members of the society is an essential goal of United Nation
Sustainable development. It is to be stated that progress has been made in increasing
accessibility of quality education by the members of the society specially those who
belong to the backward communities. The increasing rate of enrolment of girls and
women in schools is the best evidence to substantiate the progress made in the
providing quality education as a part of the United Nations Sustainable development
goal (Karamessini & Rubery, 2013). It can also be noted that literary rates all over the
world have increased radically of over the past years. However, only some countries of
the world have been able to achieve the target of providing quality education at all levels
of the society. It is also important to mention that to provide quality education there
should be equality between boys and girls at primary education level (Corbett & Fikkert,
2014). The primary objective is to promote lifelong learning and ensure that quality and
inclusive education is received by all. It can be said that Education is one of the most
important ways to achieve the other sustainable development goals (Elwér, Harryson,
L., & Hammarström, 2013). It is assessed that if people are provided with quality
education they are expected to break free from the chain of poverty (Braun &
Gatzweiler, 2014). Education is expected to reduce the existing inequalities in a society
and promote gender equality. Education is also expected to help people have better life

record high of 91 percent. However, still fifty seven million children in the world are yet
to be enrolled in schools.
Recommendation to provide quality education
. The language barrier is the biggest obstacle in providing quality education. The
backward communities face the most difficulty in mixing with the mainstream society
due to differences in culture and language. However this can be reduced by the wide
spread use of Travis the Translator. The devices can be used to promote language
education of refugees in different countries of the world. It can also be used as a
translating device in primary schools by teachers to reach to the students in their own
language which will help to achieve the goal of providing quality education.
Sustainable cities and Communities
The goal of the United Nations is to make cities more resilient, inclusive and safe
for the residents. It can be noted that half of the total population of the word live in cities.
The number of people living in cities has been noted to be almost 3.5 billion. It is
assessed that cities will be the residing place of even more people in the future as the
population is growing at an alarming rate (Griggs, et al., 2013). Therefore it can be
stated that the issues faced by the people living in the cities need to be addressed and
resolved. The greatest issues that are faced are climate change, poverty, education and
healthcare. It is to be mentioned that inequalities still continue to exist in a lot of cities in
the world. More than 828 million people continue to live in unhealthy and Unhygienic
living conditions in the cities. Most of these aforementioned people live in slum areas.
Another important issue is the ever increasing rise of the energy consumption. All the
cities in the world account for three percent of the total area of the earth but cities
consume 60-80 percent of the total energy produced. It can be said that building
sustainable cities will ensure that the people will have decent standard of living. It will
also help to create social stability and prosperity without damaging the environment.
The cost of putting sustainable practices in use in cities is minimal. However, the
benefits of implementing such practices are expected to be a lot. Implementing

sustainable practices will enhance the quality of life, environment and economic gains of
the country.
Recommendations to build sustainable cities
The product Travis the Translator aims to remove the language barriers that exist
with a society. It can be said that to build sustainable cities it is essential to connect with
the people. Building a sustainable city is impossible without the concept of globalization.
As stated earlier inequalities exist in cities. Such in equalities can be eliminated by the
wide-spread use of the aforementioned devise. Many communities in the cities refrain
from mixing with the mainstream society due to the language barrier. It can be said that
in a world which is globalizing, language barriers can lead to misunderstandings,
missed business opportunities and social exclusion. The aforementioned device can be
useful to eliminate this obstacle and promote globalization. The device can be useful to
cross cultural families. It is also used for communicating with refugees and promoting
refugee language training which is essential for globalization and building sustainable
cities without inequalities.
Conclusion
Thus to conclude it can be stated after critically analyzing the corporate social
responsibility of the travel and outdoors industry that the aim of the chosen industry is to
promote the well being of the society and the environment. The corporate social
responsibility of the chosen industry is to ensure that the organization in consideration
acts as a good corporate being and enhances the society and the environment. The
definition of environment takes into account the environment where the chosen
organization is located and the global environment.
The chosen company must ensure to act according to the principles of corporate
social responsibility as stated earlier in this report. It can be mentioned that the chosen
organization must ensure the maximum utility of the resources being used for its
production process. According to the principle of sustainability, the aim of the chosen
industry would be to ensure that the resources being used by the same for production
process can be regenerated and will also be available for use in the future. According to

environment, society and economy. The company’s decision of donating translator
devices to help the refugee language program is noble and philanthropic in nature. It
can also be noted that the recommendation provided to the company can help it
achieve the United Sustainable Development Goals of eradicating poverty and
promoting gender equality.
